SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

Re: SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

Definitely. I'm sure he does too...everyone was just so shocked that we won a game :D

The Boom is definitely referring to the Final Five championship game. I was almost too drunk to stand before the game started and yet was able to deliver a flawless Bracketology analysis when I ran into him and the Pope on the lower level.

There are definitely big pockets of time that I don't recall from that evening, but fortunately they don't include those two quick goals in the 1st period. :D

Pretty sure Pieps was only there the following week for the regional, because if he was there for the Final Five I would have been getting drunk with him instead of getting drunk with GLM and assorted Gopher and Tech rubes.

Admit that you had fun tailgating with us.:p

Didn't I give you a New Glarus beer even after you were trying to figure out what the hell was wrong with me for marrying a guy from Benton County? :D

I never said that I didn't. :p

I don't recall that, but the entire bottle of Baltika plus the Bailey's Blizzard that I downed ahead of the title game might have been part of that.

Re: SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

You make it sound like those players are going on to make millions in pro football. The school has 17,000 students, I doubt losing 12 football players a year is going ot hurt the bottom line.

Its not just those 12 football alumni a year that SCSU would be losing, its all of the football alumni who donate back to SCSU. You go get the numbers from the athletic department and you would see that its still a good sizable amount. if say those 12 football alumni a year are on average, giving back to SCSU say 50 bucks. Might not all go to the athletic department per say, but still goes to SCSU. If you have say 50 years worth of football alumni giving back to SCSU, St. Cloud should easily be getting back from those alumni 30,000 a year, and thats with minimal effort from the AD department in getting those alumni to donate back. A little effort, say getting those alumni on a email and phonecalling list to get them to donate back to SCSU, and you could easily get that number up to 60,000 to 100,000 a year. With as tough as the economy is, that little extra cash flow into SCSU can easily mean the difference between all of the athletic teams getting PB&J's while busing to their next event, or getting to shop somewhere where that has a buffet where they can get a salad and load up on good carbs and lean protein. Would you want the mens hockey team going up against North Dakota or Wisconsin after having a few soggy PB&J's before they got off the bus for the skate around?

I think I was with you...but I was pretty drunk too.

Yeah you were there, I don't remember which one of you nearly fell down the slope of the parking lot we crossed through on the way back though.

I don't think that was me. My coordination doesn't usually start to go until I'm approaching coma levels of BAC.

I don't think you understand how much the football loses every year. Unless the football alumni give at a rate a lot higher than the average student it won't be any big loss. If we didn't have a team they would replace the football players with other students, who then in return will give back to the school. The football team loses more than $100,000 a year so the school is still worse off by your best estimate.....The hockey program makes all the money, so I don't ahve to worry about the team having to eat PB&J for lunch.

Re: SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

Well, the calender has turned to August, the Twins are already crumbling in the face of the A.L. east, and the Vikes opened training camp with the "will he/won't he Favre saga", but that leaves just one more question: Who's as excited as I am for the upcoming college hockey season? A few months away, but getting ever so close every day!!

Show me the numbers.

Everything I've ever seen from any school shows that athletes, and students that were involved in athletics like Band and Cheer, gave back more to the university than the average student.

Last I checked, the NSIC only allowed schools to split 28 scholarships among the football team. Most of the guys are getting maybe an 1/8th of a scholarship to play ball there. That means that a lot of them are paying to be in school via student loans that so many of us are familiar with.

I'm just going with some back of the envelope figuring here. If you really want to prove me wrong here, go get the real numbers, that shows how much the football team costs to run, how much SCSU gets from the players themselves, advertising at the stadium and on the radio, what SCSU gets back from alumni in donations, everything. I would be very surprised if football is so expensive to run that dropping it would be worth the bad PR and goodwill in the community to drop it.

Besides, you guys are forgetting the greatest benefit that the Football team has to offer. Gives you a chance to have your livers in shape for Hockey Season. ;)

By law that information is make public and I know last year it showed up on this site. I looked at it and that is why I know they lose money. I think there is even a website that show's how much every program makes or loses. Maybe somebody on here remembers the link or what thread it was in.

Have you ever been to SCSU? Nobody care's about football and basically no students go to the games. nobody in the community or student body would care if the program folded. I am sure some old players would care, but again it's not like some ex NFL guys are giving huge dough to the program or school. Even with the new stadium the state built they still lose money. They now at least draw a few thousand a game instead of the thousand they use to draw at seilke field.

So you're saying that an increase in attendence has been happening? Doesn't sound like Nobody to me. ;)

Re: SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

Update on my roadtrips for the 10'-11' season.

Miami in October is up in the air. It all depends on when Mr. wore Black can get out of school. If we do make it to the game, it would be for Friday's game only.

Grand Forks looks all but out. Sad because I can get free tickets to that series.

Final Five: You know I will be there!

Green Bay Regional: pending. If a "good" team and better yet, SCSU, is at the regional, I will make it up there. It is only 2 hours away.

Yes Skeeterman, I did find a job! It only took 10 months! I have been there for 3 months now. I am a graphic artist for a corporate apparel company. We design and recreate logos for t-shirt and other apparel. They surprisingly like me.
