SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

Re: SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

What does everyone say when we start talking about our great regular season record? Oh, I think it's something like "Well do something in the NCAAs and get back to me."

So winning one game, now we're set? The remarks will cease?

True, Cloud fans now have a great opportunity to respond to such negative attacks from rival fan bases. Do you think they'll be able to fill their arena for all non-Gopher games after their this year's success?

The recession hurt the Huskies the last couple years. Before that they had a long sell out streak. I am sure they will draw well if they keep winning.

Probably not.

Re: SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

Where are you seeing that it has been changed?

Final comment on the tweaked schedule: Apparently, MSU Mankato decided to no longer honor the 'gentlemen's agreement' to have home-and-home games between SCSU, U of M, and MSU-M. I understand MSU-M wanted to have both games with the U of M at Mankato this season. So in response, the U of M pulled back and asked for both games in October with St. Cloud to be held at Maricucci as previously scheduled, leaving St. Cloud with no home game involving the U of M, coincidentally on St. Cloud's Homecoming week schedule.

Interesting that MSU-M released their schedule for the 2010-2011 season right after they backed out of the previous agreement between the schools.

Interesting. Could this be a back lash for the U pushing for BSU to get in? We all know Mankato is now going to be 5th in the state and to make it worse their little sister to the north with 5,000 students is the school to pass them up.

I am going to enjoy watching both games on TV this year. What will all idiots who only go to Gopher games do? Will they go to the UND games or just not show up this year? I hope they don't show up and then never come back. If the team wins the building will be full.

They'll live, its not that long ago that once every 4 years we didn't host the Gophers. Now it'll be two out of five. And I agree, I hope they never come again. Maybe they'll forget we have a team. :D

But I am ****ed... we really don't have home games over Homecoming? :(

Re: SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

Yep, never really associated Homecoming with hockey.

yep since our only sport that matters to the student body is hockey... we love that we have played away the last few years... ya know since our moronic student leaders have thought we give a rats *** about the football team

I agree with you. The Basketball team makes it to the national semi's and from what I heard nobody even knew.....The only sport anybody care's about is Hockey. I am sure that is because it is D1. The people I know who went to SCSU before the Hockey team was D1 said no cared about any of the sports back then.

What I mean is where have you ever heard of a homecoming hockey game?
Yes it's our biggest sport but it's never really been associated with homecoming.

Who cares what its "associated with?" The fact is, alum who leave St. Cloud come back for Homecoming. Alum who leave St. Cloud come back for hockey games. Why not... I dunno... line them up?

What homecoming is associated with does matter in this case because homecoming is considered a football thing.
It may seem odd, but that is the way it is.
Hell, if hockey wanted to do its own "homecoming" they probably could do it but they don't.
Sorry if you don't agree but homecoming=football.

I don't get why this stupid argument has to come up every freaking year.

Re: SCSU Huskies 2010 Off-Season Thread

I am to going to fight over this topic, but I thought I would bring up one good point and be done with it. Very few people who come back to St. Cloud for Homecoming go to the football game. I doubt many people who come back would go to the hockey game either, but I guess it would be more than the football game.

Well at most high schools it is associated with every sport having their home games during that week. It is normally associated with football because football is pretty much the most popular sport at most schools. And it comes up every year because its what the people want... not that should really matter:rolleyes:  Maybe if the school could get their head out of their ***** they could sell out a few more games a year.

This isn't high school, homecoming doesn't mean the same thing.
There is no formal dance, no one cares about the king and queen as hardly anyone votes for it mostly because they have no clue who any of them are.
Hell the only time I ever heard any real mention of it was the year a guy ran for and won queen.
I've been to hockey games during homecoming week, homecoming isn't mentioned, it isn't talked about and the fact it is homecoming isn't going to lead to a sell out, yes you may get more people as Tommy said, but it isn't going to be enough.
People come back to see friends and get hammered, not for sports, it's just not that important.

But hey, if you think it is, go ahead and say something to administration, email Morris, whatever.
Anything is better than having it constantly brought up on here as "something the people want" when the only people I see who "want" it are a few people on here who don't seem to be trying real hard to get it.

Alright, alright, alright already. You've made your point. But your opinion on homecoming as it relates to SCSU may be, pardon the pun, "old school".;)

Be advised that the scheduling of SCSU Homecoming to include a hockey game at the NHC as well as a football game at Husky Stadium for 2010 was no accident. Coordinating WCHA schedules with MnSCU football schedules to have both athletic events played in St. Cloud during an October homecoming weekend is challenging. Nonetheless, that is the preferred arrangement and would be repeated year after year if SCSU had greater autonomy in establishing schedules to meet this goal. Unfortunately, it does not.

You're right. People come to homecoming to see friends. But they also like to be entertained with or without a drink in their hand. Football and hockey events along with other affinity group gatherings are part of "the more the merrier" approach. Look for hockey to be part of every SCSU homecoming in the near future.
