Re: SCSU 2009-2010 Season Thread

What I don't do is overestimate a players ability or their potential problems in adjusting to college.
Look at the comments on Lee for God's sake, after just 6 starts, people are wondering why Motzko is going to keep playing him on Friday's.
Politicians don't flip/flop that fast.

I agree that everyone should have curbed their enthusiasm about Lee's season this year, because more often than not freshmen don't come in and play lights-out from day one. In fact, I thought Dunn should've been shown the respect and left as the Friday starter. But man, when he's outplayed Lee so much to this point, he should be given the Friday start so that now and then he can take both games. I'm not saying he should get all the games, and I'll agree that SCSU as a whole has played better Saturdays than Fridays thusfar, but Dunn has been substantially better than Lee.

That very well could be, but Dunn has also gotten goal support.
In Lee's 3 losses, we've scored 3 goals (0 against Miami, 1 against Tech and 2 this past weekend against UND), not going to win many games that way no matter how you play and I doubt Dunn matters in any of those 3 starts.
The ties are debateable, especially the UMD game, but as we have both said, freshmen are going to have bad games.
If Lee gets the goal support Dunn has, it's likely 2 or maybe even all 3 of those losses aren't losses.

But I'm not saying Dunn should be in because he's got a better record. I'm saying he's played vastly better than Lee has to this point in the season.

My point is if Lee's losses are ties or wins, we're likely not talking about it at all.
If Lee is 3-1-2 instead of 1-3-2 with the same GAA and SV%, are we really discussing who should be getting the majority of the starts?
Yes the play for Dunn has been better, but Lee has not been garbage and I don't think the gap is as "vast" as you think it is.

Name, Yr GP W L T GA MIN GAA SH SV SV%
Dan Dunn, Jr 4 3 1 0 8 242 1.9861 0 120 .938
Mike Lee, Fr 6 1 3 2 15 366 2.4587 0 154 .911

At those rates Dunn would have given up 4 or 5 less goals than Lee had he played every one of Lee's minutes.

Before this weekend, Lee's and Dunn's SV% were both .924 and Lee's GAA was 2.15 vs Dunn's 1.98.
One weekend blew the numbers open.
In Lee's two other losses, he gave up 2 goals in each, SCSU scored 0 and 1 goal in those 2 games.
All I'm arguing is it's too early to say Dunn should hands down get the full-time job.

I agree Lee has not played bad this year. One thing to keep in mind though. Lee has given up soft goals almost every game and when you do that your team tends to play on their heels. If the team truly plays worse on friday why not play the hot goalie on Friday and play lee on Saturday?

I'm ok with that, you want to switch Lee to Saturday, by all means.
I just don't agree with people who think Lee should sit and Dunn should be given the #1 job outright when he's played the best 4 games of his career.
If Lee is still "struggling" by Christmas, go ahead and give Dunn the #1 job if he keeps this up.

Team USA is hoping Lee snaps out of it soon as well. They need him on his A game if they have any shot at the World Junior Championship.

My goodness, are you listening? Who's saying that Dunn should be handed the starting gig unchallenged? We're saying he's earned being the Friday night starter and on some weekends now and then, maybe he's given the full weekend now and then.

I've already said if he wants to switch them that's fine, but there have been some who wonder why Dunn isn't the fulltime starter.
And I doubt we'll see either one get a full weekend again until after Christmas.

Re: SCSU 2009-2010 Season Thread

Who has said Dunn should start all the games and Lee should be sitting?

I don't remember exact names, but I have seen more than one person say Dunn should play all the "big games" while Lee should get NC starts and "lesser teams" which to me suggests Dunn should be the starter and I think it's too soon to say that.

Re: SCSU 2009-2010 Season Thread

Yeah, right. Lee should watch for a while, until he gets comfortable. He's not ready for prime time.

Re: SCSU 2009-2010 Season Thread

Sorry I don't keep track of the name of every poster.
Course you could look at the two names below and see a couple more.
Personally I've never thought a goalie gets better or more comfortable by watching.

No, but a TEAM gets better when the best goalie plays. And isn't it about the team?
