Great. Next time he can run on that in the primaries.

He should! With the lightning speed the window is shifting on what Dems should do about the Court, Sanders, nearing 90 in 2028, may mop up moderate” Democratic voters with such a conservative Court reform idea, assuming nothing had been done by then. Makes me excited for 2028.

What exactly needs to be done to expand the court? Steps introduced? Who votes?

Just a bill in Congress. That's it. It's been done before. Which is interesting. The Republicans go ape shit about the Democrats suggesting they can do something that has been done before yet we have the Republicans doing new shit all the time.

Fuck the Republicans. Just do it.

Except the part where Obama did that exact thing and the country rejected it flat out. Republicans waved into office under Obama all over the country remember. Maybe since it's a white guy now it will work but I doubt it.

the country bought into the Obamacare is SoCIaLiSM and un'Merican!!! nonsense. This resulted in the rise of the tea party and the republican wave. Backlash from expanding the court could be worse.

The dignity of the Highest Court.

During an interview with Fox News anchor Shannon Bream, McConnell brushed off the notion that Barrett’s rushed confirmation would potentially come back to bite Republicans on Election Day.

“If you recall, we had a Supreme Court fight a month before the election in 2018, and we actually gained seats,” the GOP leader told Bream.

“I think this nominee will be a political asset for our candidates around the country,” he continued. “Not a liability, but an asset.”

But no, we just cannot risk Democrats being seen as politicizing the court!

Whatever Biden does will be labeled by the right as SoCIaLiSM and un'Merican. So it won't make any difference. The Right will be running, and governing on austerity as soon as Biden gets elected. That's their thing. We have no money and need balanced budgets when Democrats are in charge and when they are in charge the till is fucking wide open.

This is really important to note because I can see the Centrists here falling for it again.

It is also very important that we not fall into the "rural chocolate box" fallacy, that assumes the average Democratic voter looks like this:

Elections are about turnout. Mealy-mouthed centrism does nothing for turnout. Show and have the courage of our convictions, for god's sake.

no, people here are telling you that the average dumb American will fall for it

The average dumb American will vote the way she will vote. So if she's D she'll vote D and if she's R she'll vote the way her husband tells her after he beats her up.

We still have false media narratives about voters changing their minds. NOBODY CHANGES THEIR MIND. They either vote or stay home. The way to ensure Dems stay home is to give them the same cowardly weak sauce of the last 40 years that does nothing about our systemic problems. That's how to get the GOP right back into office.

Find the Republican cancers and cut them out.

Well said.

The right wants their tax cuts, the right to discriminate based on their oh so Christian values, women devalued and no one to have health care.
no matter what the Dems do, they’ll form new tea parties and throw tantrums

Are college-educated, suburban women switching to Biden or not? That’s been the narrative. Is it wrong? Did they just stay home before and not vote for Trump in 2016?
If no one changes their mind, how did you?

They wouldn't have mattered if Democrats hadn't voted for Stein or stayed home like a bunch of fucking pussies.

And that wouldn't have mattered if the Dems hadn't nominated the worst major party candidate since Barry Goldwater.

Trump was a better nominee than Hillary Clinton? I mean, I know he won, but, in the immortal words of Leslie Nielsen, surely, you can’t be serious?

But, they matter now. Have their minds been changed or not?

My thesis is the ones who are voting for Biden now stayed home last time, and the ones who voted for Dump last time are staying home. And, writ large, that's my thesis across all demos.

When the "durr values voters durr" stuff all started in the 90s voting stopped being about policy and became completely tribal identity. It always was to some extent -- when the racists were Dixiecrats, and then switched to the GOP with Reagan and Bush Senior, that was strictly identity politics -- but the 90s made it explicit. That's when Hate Radio started talking about demoncrats and their sheep actually believed it.

Liberals vote more on policy because we practice critical thinking but we are also heavily invested in voting as an identity statement. Nobody with a brain was going to make common cause with racists and misogynists, even before they also became the knob slobberers of a malignant narcissist traitor.

The gulf will not be bridged until the cultural cancer of the Right is eradicated, and that can only come from time. Even its precursor, slaveholder ideology, was not killed by the war -- it lived through it and to a large extent still lives in the now overt racism of the Right. Education would kill it which is why conservative leaders carefully lead their flock away from education. So that just leaves time: as each older generation dies the next generation is a little less toxic and stupid. Hence, over time, conservatism recedes, although obviously the rest of us progress so the distance is always the same.

As it turns out, yes. The evidence is on the news every day.

And don't call me "Leslie."
