God the Harry Reid vs. McConnell thing is more annoying now than it was then. When it happened many of us here knew that it would end up this way and we still agreed with it. McConnell wasnt even denying he was going to gum up the works. Christ in 2010 he said they wanted to take back the Government and make Obama a 1 term President. The midterms changed the game and his mission was to outright screw Obama out of a second term with every Senate procedural rule he could. He had zero to lose and the balls to burn the Government down if it meant he got what he wanted. Most politicians arent willing to go that far but he definitely is.

I mean seriously he is proving it right now. He is willing to blow up any chance of them holding the Senate (which to be fair wasnt heading the right way anyways) and losing the agenda for god knows how long to ram through one more Justice. He doesn't care about how it affects his colleagues in the Senate, the House or El Hefty...this is his last hurrah and he will destroy it all to get what he feels will be his legacy. As I said a few days ago Mitch is Hitler after he knows he can't win the war. He will still send people to get killed and also destroy his own country just to spite his enemies. He is a terrorist with a bomb and his thumb on a dead man switch knowing he wont be able to escape and praying to get shot and take everyone with him.

Might is right.

What did you think of the Merrick Garland block? Would history have ridiculed the GOP if they hadn't done that?

At the time I made a lengthy post here about that whole situation. I posted that I understood what the Republican Senate was doing, gambling that Trump would win, but that I disagreed with their strategy. I disagreed for two reasons. First, I thought it unlikely that Trump would win. Second, I felt that Garland was a less radical nomination by Obama, because of his desire to get him through, than we would see from Clinton once she was elected.

Turns out I was wrong. The GOP Senate filled their inside straight and got their nomination. If Clinton had won, as everyone expected, I think the GOP Senate would have rightly been in for criticism.

So you ascribe to the McConnell and Trump view that norms are for sissies and might makes right.

Then if the Dems win in November and ram through everything under the sun after killing the filibuster, I don't want to hear any complaints from the peanut gallery.

The view I ascribe to is this. When you are the party in control, that is the time to do those things that you think are best for the country, to pass that legislation you think is best, to approve those nominations you think are best, etc...

When you are not in control, you use the rules and mechanisms and bully pulpit to do what you can to negotiate compromises, to limit the "damage" you think the other side is doing.

That is my view of politics in a nutshell.

Hmmmm...you’re not as ridiculous as I once thought...

At this point anything less than that and the Dems will look weak willed and the party division will get way worse. To save the coalition they are going to need to act like strongmen if November goes the way it seems to be looking.

The key though is to make sure they dot every I and cross every T. They need to make sure what they do does not run afoul of the Constitution because they can't beat the 6-3 majority even if Roberts continues to act with a modicum of logic. Either that or the bills have to be so rewarding to a large population of people that the SC is afraid to act. (like previously with ObamaCare)

The question becomes what are the bills most important to pass. The 4-5 things that need to be done for fear Biden only gets 1 term. (because he is voted out not because he decides not to run)

(the following is just ideas not my top priorities per se)

Voting Rights Act
Civil Rights expansion
Obamacare or Medicare Expansion
Restoration of previous tax levels
Some sort of Gerrymandering legislation
Pandemic Relief

Then you have the spiteful stuff like PR/DC Statehood, court packing...etc.

Biden's 4 years need to be handled like their hair is on fire. Just assume the other side doesnt care and go for it all. They arent going to help you, even the ones who would back in the day made a bloodpact and they cant anymore. 4 years to save the Republic, that has to be the mantra. And everyone must fall in line. That means every House member no matter if they are Centrist or Progressive. It means every Senator no matter if it is Booker or Manchin. They need to act like there is no tomorrow.

In hearings today Klobuchar doused Ted Cruz in gasoline, set him on fire and pissed on the ashes. Holy cow was that awesome to watch!

Yup. Mitch is a dying star and knows demographics will not support his pos party much longer

His party will do fine as long as the electoral college and the senate favors dirt over people. Young liberals from East Bumfuck Nebromaha leave for blue cities. Young rednecks stay, roll coal, and vote GOP.

Companies in First World states should start paying their entering workers to move to Jesusland and remote from there. NYC and LA alone could match every dumptard with a college graduate. Buy a house for $90k; the state would love it to as every liberal techy would produce 20x the tax revenue as a con serf. Swing the schoolboard elections and start saving the 5% smartest con spawn from their parents with education. These nerds would have their choice of the finest local trim sick of their dirtbag rapin' cousins.

Colonize Dumbf-ckistan. Everybody wins.

Once Texas and Florida demographic the GOP out, the fight is over.

I think FL is going the wrong way.

TX is ours soon though. 2024 maybe, 2028 probably, 2032 at the very latest.

And those Messicans that the cons have subjected to ghetto / incarceration hell? Yeah... payback is going to be... severe.
