Other small players who did well in college:

Nathan Gerbe at BC and Brad Zancanaro at BU.

They don't have to move on to the NHL for them to be of optimal use at RPI although that adds quite a bit of gloss to everything. The size thing is a bit overblown for college purposes, just so long as they're quick and smart skaters.

The bonus is that you can get more years out of the smaller players too, since the pros aren't waving money at them as much.

A key point. The smaller players are usually not high draft choices and the NHL doesn't like to part with anywhere near as much money for lower draft choices or non drafted players until they see how well they can do at the NCAA level. Vermont got a lot of mileage out of St Louis and Perrin and I doubt that would have been the case if they were bigger boys.:)

Re: RPI Recruiting II: Knowlton's Rangers (enlistments open)

Does anyone have any thoughts about what the presence of new assistant coach and former NHL player Ray Sheppard in Cornwall will have on JL's future and his likelihood of attending RPI? http://www.standard-freeholder.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=2272212

Well he played for Cornwall's former OHL team, the Royals.
..so the conspiracy theorists will say this means JL will be heading to MJ's.

Shepperd was an undersized guy who with stood the punishment of the NHL to post 657 points. With any luck he'll get JL's "mind right" and get him to Troy this fall. :D

You beat me to it, my computer is a slug tonight !
Not Landry...I'm saying close to 90% chance it was Leboeuf...if it was Vegas I'd be all in. I'm 6'2" and I walked within 3 feet of him -- the kid was taller than me.

My strong guess is it was Leboeuf - 6'4" 195.
If it was indeed him, his line is: 47-7-12-19 52 PIM

His hair is a touch longer now and he has a cut on the bridge of his nose. :D
I might be getting ahead of myself here but if we do end up landing Ming, I wonder if that could give us an inside track at getting the Spink twins who are from the same hometown as Ming (Williamstown)
