Re: RPI Recruiting II: Knowlton's Rangers (enlistments open)

Does anyone know who Appert may have his eye on ("...he's an ex-Gopher") per the article? Great writing by the way!

Ralph and others have reported that Appert was seen before the holidays in Fargo N.D. when the Fargo Force played Des Moines. If you believe Appert is looking to add another D for this fall ( I do) then only a few blueliners on either squad were uncommitted to D1.

The most prominent name was that of Fargo's Grant Scott, who left the Gophers in early 2009 after playing in just one game. An intriguing prospect with good size (6'3 220), Scott previously played for the USNDTP U-18s. He was a forward before converting to the blueline. Oddly enough, his one game ( I believe he only skated one shift) as a Gopher was at forward.

An east coast kid (PA), it has been mentioned that Scott would like to resume his college career on the east coast. Scott has been a healthy scratch of late for Fargo.

Austin Coldwell, an uncommitted defensemen who plays for Des Moines is also a possibility...at least in my mind... He is in the top 10 in scoring for USHL blueliners.

Although I think that he was looking at Scott, conceivably he was looking at a forward for 2011.

One of my reasons for thinking that Scott was more likely than Coldwell, or anyone else for that matter, is because his Scott's clock is ticking. It explains why Curadi may start in either 2010 or 2011, despite the fact he stated that he would prefer 2010. Scott played that one game for Minnesota, so that was his first of five years to play four years at college. This year is his second year. He will then have three years remaining to play three years wherever he goes. He won't be spending another year away for college. Curadi, on the other hand, could play another season in Penticton or elsewhere and still have four years in college.

I had half a mind to cut out early today and head up and see that game..maybe coax T-Bone out of the office on the way thru.

FWIW, I believe I read someplace on one of the Force blogs that Scott has been out with an injury. I wouldnt mind seeing Coldwell or Scott in Troy next year. Scott has some experience at the NCAA level, although only 1 game and I feel he could step right into the lineup, also adding him would help spread out the D recruits a bit. There might be an adjustment period with Coldwell but he seems to have some good offensive skills.
Looks like Coldwell was real close to playing for the Portland Winterhawks in the WHL back in 06-07, as he was listed on there roster at one point.

Isnt this the same kid (Grant Scott) that commited to Uconn earlier this week?

Scott was hurt earlier in the year, but is now said to be healthy. His challenge appears to be that his fellow blueliners are playing well in his absence...

Your right, on Jan. 11th. I guess we can take him off our radar.

Edit: Its not listed on Heisenberg's front page, if you scroll down to UConn recruits he is listed.

Too bad. Although, I have to think that we were unable to offer him a scholarship if he ended up choosing UConn. They really don't have a single thing to offer over RPI either academically or athletically.

I suspect that either Appert wasn't after him at all, or was hoping to get him as a "freebie" because of his limited eligibility.

Re: RPI Recruiting II: Knowlton's Rangers (enlistments open)

Where are you getting this from? I don't see this on Heisenberg's page nor is his name mentioned in any USCHO threads other than this one.

It was mentioned on a U of Minn forum earlier and it is listed on heisenbergs if you go to uconns commitments.

Seems like it had to have been one of the two - either we had nothing to offer him financially or Appert was just never interested in the first place.

Re: RPI Recruiting II: Knowlton's Rangers (enlistments open)

True.

I wonder why Heisenberg doesn't have him on the main page? Sleep deprivation? No sign of it on the USHL commit page yet.

He often doesn't add players in all three places. It's probably forgetfulness. Bailen isn't listed at all on the USHL page.

You'd think he'd do the home page first..but what the heck do I know! He does a great job regardless.

IMHO, the team page is probably the most important since names fall off the bottom of the home page eventually.
