RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14 (Part III)

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14 (Part III)

That's it, 4 recruits drafted:

Alec Dillon - Tri-City Storm
Alex Rodriguez - Sioux City Musketeers
Jacob Hayhurst - Cedar Rapids Roughriders
Austin Cho - Lincoln Stars

Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2013-14 (Part III)

Draft is complete. Burgess, Liljegren and Bell were the only recruits not drafted, which may not have been unexpected. Alec Dillon went in Rd.2 to Tri-City....Alex Rodrigues went in Rd.3 to Sioux City....Jacob Hayhurst went in Rd.5 to Cedar Rapids and Austin Cho went in Rd.6 to Lincoln.

All relatively high picks, so I suspect that the teams feel they are interested. Hopefully if they are, none of their current teams does what happened with Tironese (and SLU recruit Ryan Lough) of Alberni Valley last year.

Yes, especially when taken into account the Draft was 30 Rds.

It appears Cedar Rapids has placed Carlos Fornais on their Protected List for next year....Teams drafted until their initial roster of protected players (returnees, affiliate list and Phase 1 draftees) reached 45. Returning players on the protected list are goaltender Danny TIrone, defensemen Charlie Curti, Clark Kuster and Logan Von Ruden and forwards Andrew Oglevie, Carlos Fornaris, Alec Marsh, Erik Foley, Brennan Sanford and Dylan McLaughlin.

I suspect there are more returners than this but have yet to confirm.

Yeti's bio on Austin Cho (most of which we know)..... 6th round: Austin Cho ('96) - Defenseman - 6'0", 175 pounds
The first non-American selected by the Stars today, Cho is originally from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. In 52 games this past season for St. Andrews College private school in Aurora, Ontario, Cho put up a respectable 46 points (13g, 33a) in 52 games played, along with 24 PIM's. Austin was selected by the Sault Ste Mario Greyhounds in the 12th round of the 2013 OHL Priority Selection draft. OHL scout Scott LaFortune said that Austin is a "good skater, smooth on his edges. Plays a safe and controlled game." Austin has committed to play college hockey at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, NY. Most college hockey websites I've seen indicate that Cho is set to arrive at RPI in the fall of 2016. So if he's interested in playing here, there's a possibility that Austin could play two season for the Stars. herby, do you have any info on whether or not Hayhurst will attend camp?

I probably won't know until camp itself. Have to be honest I think Fornaris will be fighting for his spot. End the year in Carlson's doghouse. Players rarely get out of there.

I had forgotten about that. Thanks for mentioning it again.

With goaltender Hayden Lavigne eligible to return next season, Tri-City added to their netminding talent when they selected Dillon in the second round, 21st overall.

"We're ecstatic with our goaltending tandem of Hayden Lavigne and Alec Dillon," Hulton said. "Dillon is a big kid with junior experience in Victoria of the BCHL. He comes highly recommended and is widely regarded in hockey circles. To have two kids that could possibly be drafted in the National Hockey League really solidifies that area and if you can have strength in goaltending and defense no matter what league you're in, you're going to be successful."

Sounds like they expect him.

Tim is the best in the league at doing draft write ups there is no doubt. I used to do a write up on the CR hockey forum but I have since left to be a mod at FYC. I do try to tweet out info regarding some picks. Currently researching Hayhurst.

I'll be interested to see if you find anything new about him. I wonder if it is meaningful that he hasn't tweeted anything about being selected yet. Neither has Rodriguez. Dillon has and Cho's Twitter account is protected, so I don't know if he has.

Right now CR is playing a waiting game with Hayhurst. I was told by a scout that they can not talk to him until his season is over. They will know more at that time.
