RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part III: BYOB: Bring Your Own Bratwurst

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part III: BYOB: Bring Your Own Bratwurst

In honor of C. J. Lee, today is 14 September 2012. There are 22 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 6 October for the start of next season.

That is the day that an exhibition game is scheduled.

For how long has the ECAC been giving out a Coach of the Year award?

If they were giving it out as long ago as 1984-85, I'd like to know the name of the coach who impressed the voters more than the guy who brought his team home 35-2-1 that year. :)

Obviously they hadn't had the award yet, but given Player of the Year went to someone from Harvard, I wouldn't be surprised if something similar happened for the Coach award.

I remember during the last lockout, the River Rats games were shown up here on FSNY in some of the Devils time slots. Doc Emerick was up here calling games. Let's hope it doesn't come to that.

Personally, I'd love to see it. I love the AHL and seeing guys develop. NHL players are overpaid primadonnas and the owners made them that way...they are well suited for one another.

True-even more so in other sports. Things have gotten well out of hand. Long term guaranteed contracts have made quite an impact. Wonder what a Bobby Orr or Bobby Hull could sign for now (if they were in their prime years)?

I'm glad to hear the reason we don't know who the captains are is because Appert's making sure they need to earn it. If we can skip the part of last season where we weren't playing as a team and continue the way we played at the end of last season I think it's going to be a pretty excellent year.

Bobby Orr

As I always I agree with your insightful comments. I had the occasion to meet Mr. Orr at the Alb. County Airport. Sometimes when you meet your heroes you get disappointed not with Mr. Orr. He was so nice to me and introduced me to his dad. I believe that Bobby Orr is the greastest player to ever play the game. Revolutinized how it was played.

BTW - FDude was right about why our great coach was not naming captains. I like to point this out because he is so seldom right :p Comes under the formula that a broken clock is right twice a day.

I have to agree-although his career was shortened by horrible knee injuries (and some poorly done surgery to attempt to correct the situation) and in spite of the fact that during his best years I was an anti Bruin fan being a staunch NY Ranger guy-he was by far the best i ever saw. There have been several great players but I still conisder him the best ever. As far as sports heroes being nice-thankfully I go back far enough that the old timers I met years ago were for the most part super. In baseball met Stan Musial who was just an incredible gentleman. In hockey got to meet both Richards, Ted Lindsey, a host of NY Rangers-and all were just very nice and actually offerred autographs (for free!!). But this was a long time ago in a galaxy far away when agents did not get involved and money was not the major issue for them. They were loyal to their teams and to their fans. With sports now being just a business-nothing is the same as it was.
