Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part II: (Insert Title Here)

According to the RPI website, Homecoming and Reunion are 5-7 October.
Homecoming is October 19th/20th, but that may not be the same as Parents' Weekend.

Given the person who is saying this is a parent, I'm inclined to trust that person (but verify). ;)

And a good thing I verified, because it is NOT October 12th/13th: http://www.rpi.edu/fye/parents/events/fallfest.html

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part II: (Insert Title Here)

Hello Everyone! The Second Annual RPI Hockey Tailgate will be held on October 12th at "Some-time-after-lunch-until-the-last-man-standing staggers into HFH". I will be sending an email to the parents as soon as I receive the official contact list. The invitation is open to all posters who wish to meet the parents and say hello to one another. I will stand in as "Julie, your cruise director" (Babo, your cruise director sounds like a defective buoy). If you are attending and are so inclined, feel free to bring a tidbit to share and your beverage of choice (I choose 'adult' beverages and will have some to share). It's really more of an unofficial 'kick off' to the season and I had no idea that last year's parents' weekend was the first one so we are already a part of the tradition! I hope all of you can make it! Cannot wait for the season to begin...Go Engineers!!!

What's the location? In a pay parking lot?

last year it was in the upper parking lot next to the EVAC Bldg. If you go for the tailgate get together you'll be there way before they start charging to park (I don't even know if they do charge). Or, just park out on the street & walk. Obviously as the date draws closer there will be more info on the Thread.

That agrees with what RPI has been telling me. They've been sending me e-mails inviting me to sign up for Reunion. Not sure why, since this isn't a significant anniversary of my graduation year.

The football team will be hosting St. Lawrence on the afternoon of the sixth, while those ever-popular Acadia Axemen will pay a return visit to the Field House that night.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part II: (Insert Title Here)

Today is 21 August 2012. There are 46 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 6 October for the start of next season.

That is the day that an exhibition game is supposedly scheduled.

MSG was reportedly considered for the ECAC Finals (not the Semis) http://nhrcollegehockey.blogspot.com/. (Stolen from the Yale thread.)

I'm glad that the league realized that having the semifinals and finals in separate locations was not a wise decision.

I'm also glad to see that both Bridgeport and Providence put in bids. Hopefully, that will keep the bids competitive during the next round.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part II: (Insert Title Here)

That would have been interesting....5,000 or so people sprinkled amongst 18,000 seats.

RPI will have about 5,000 fans alone at LP. If Cornell is there they will bring another 3,000.
If you get Union, Harvard, Dartmouth and Colgate, you will have lots of empty seats.

Add Clarkson or SLU to the mix and you'd get a couple thousand there. Too bad UVM isn't still in the ECAC, as that would bring a few more.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part II: (Insert Title Here)

I just read that Register article about the ECAC. If it is true, I think they made a huge mistake. Is the league that distitute that they couldn't afford to pay for another night at MSG? Yes it would be much more expensive than LP or Albany. I can unserstand that they would not want to hold the semis and finals a week apart, though I think it could be done to get a game in MSG. If they could afford one night, why not get a few more dollars from each school and do two if you don't want to upset the schedule? This is The World's Most Famous Arena! The Big Apple! Even with low-drawing teams, the MSG marketing people would've been able to sell a lot of seats. Cornell-BU has sold out every time and Cornell-Michigan will sell out as well this year.
The visibility and the prestige of playing in MSG, plus the expereince for the atheltes and fans would be worth it in my book. Harvard couldn't free up a few thousand dollars from their $5 Billion endowment for the good of the league and the good of college hockey? Dr. Jackson couldn't couldn't rent out a bedrooom in her new residence to cover the cost?
Is this going to be a legitimate big-time Division I conference, or will it be Vermont, BU, UAlbany and the America East of College Hockey? If the story is true, I think this decision answers that question.

I would think that it would be a lot more at MSG assuming that it was given at least some publicity even if it was between teams that didn't travel.

Not buying it --I'm from Mizzou on this one. I'll believe it when I see it. Just because you have large concentrations of alum in the metro, doesn't mean they show up for the game(s). Also, revenues (or lack thereof) has been the primary factor for the league all along...going to MSG would vaporize any budget they could dream up.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part II: (Insert Title Here)

So we can clear up any confusion:

The RPI HOCKEY PARENTS WEEKEND IS OCTOBER 12-14. It is obviously different from the school's parent weekend...My source for the dates is Seth Appert.

Now that we've cleared that up...the invitation stands.

Great!!! Babo, Mrs. Aspy will provide tables like last year. Just one slight correction. When we refer to SA, we're using the prefix Our Great Coach... Seth Appert.

Cornell-BU and Cornell-Michigan sell out. The ECAC should be able to draw a decent crowd. That is beside the point. Maybe there was not enough time, and we know that there are not enough people in the ECAC Office, to pull this together. However, a chance to play your tournament at MSG is really too good to pass up. Are there not sponsors or alum who could put up the extra money? You can't overemphasize the value of the exposure the league would get.

I know I am in the minority on this, but it seems too good to pass up.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part II: (Insert Title Here)

I'm predicting a down year for Union.

I'm not picking them any lower than 7th. I picked them 8th two years ago, and they made the tournament. I picked them 10th last year, and they made the Frozen Four. Lord help me if I pick them dead last...
