Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part II: (Insert Title Here)

We have come home from Troy after an RPI game and hit the GSP as late as 1AM only to get stuck in bumper to bumper nastiness. FD you were fortunate. I will admit that the high speed EZ pass lanes have helped. The less often you have to come to a stop and restart at a toll plaza the safer it is. Oh, BTW, on your next trip down be prepared-tolls were raised 50% this past Jan 1!!
Last time I drove the GSP, the tolls were 25 cents at each toll plaza.

How are they collecting 37 1/2 cents?

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part II: (Insert Title Here)

Today is 11 August 2012. There are 56 days (8 weeks) until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 6 October for the start of next season.

That is the day that an exhibition game is supposedly scheduled.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part II: (Insert Title Here)

I would not be surprised if RPI was a "no" vote. Coach Appert is very much against having the ECAC championship at LP because of the ice size.
I would think that RPI and Union would both have voted for Albany.

fishcore, I wouldn't think that this would really cause any league animosity. There was probably universal agreement, except perhaps from PU, that it should move.

Oh, I know that it wouldnt, my point was that I dont care where the final four is played I just want RPI back in it plain and simple.

It's a little different now that I'm starting further west; I'd have a better chance at finding an alternate route avoiding most of the tolls; probably only one or two booths, and then a cross into PA on the way back.

They implemented single/double the last time I drove it (single if both sides have a booth, double if only one side has it), but it was .35/.70 at the time. I read on Wikipedia it's up to .75/1.50 with no EZPass discount. Also I did not take the AC Expressway (US 30 instead).

I think I just figured out the reason for the awful redesign of RPIAthletics' website, at least in terms of schedule. It's part of the same syndicate that does many online versions of newspapers (the Post-Standard is one example at syracuse.com, there's also one at al.com that does an Alabama paper that covers UAH, I'm sure there are plenty of others across the country), and they've been doing a design overhaul of absolutely everything. They think eye candy is more important than the actual information they wish to profess.

Other colleges, e.g. Cornell, use the same company that RPIAthletics does and are just as bad IMO.

Honestly, I wonder sometimes why RPI doesn't get some of the talented students at school to work on these websites. We have plenty of capable computer science students to support all the backend stuff, and lots of skilled EMAC and EART students who could make it look significantly more pleasing to the eye.

OK, I know what EMAC stands for. What does EART mean? No one has entered it here http://www.acronymfinder.com/EART.html.

I beg your pardon. Our site is far, far worse.

(Yes, I'm bitter you guys have figured out great streaming video of games, while we are still using stones knives and bear skins.)

What good is the streaming video by RPI-TV when we still have to watch B2?

My thoughts on Lake Placid. This Tournamet should be held in Albany. Lake Placid although a scenic and great place to visit its not a good spot for a championship tournamet it would be like Hockey East holding their championship in Caribou Maine nice place to visit not a place for a Tournamet. Hotels are limited and expensive and there is no easy way to get there. The Olympic facility for lack of a better term is a "Dump" It has not weathered the years of budget cuts very well. I do appreciate the history of the building in a nostalgic way not as a top notch facility. The fact that it is a "Big Sheet" is a minus in my opinion to the best of my knowlege Dartmouth is the only surface of that kind in our league and evereyone plays on it once a year. The ECACHL seems to think Albany is a perfect place to house the league offices but some how not good enough for the tournamet go figure ! as far as I can tell the argument is attendence and its too big. Well to that I say get to work hire a sports marketing company or hire a staffer w/sports marketing experience give the freakin tickets away if thats what you have do to fill the building if it cost money so be it we need to build a fan base for the tournmet. This is a buisness and it cost money to make money long term. College Hockey is in a state flux at this point and only the strong and proactive will survive. The ECACHL needs to stop sitting back and hopeing it comes to them and go out and get it. Lake Placid is a very quaint boutique setting for this tournamet but I do not believe in our long tem interest. In fact if you look at the most recent attempt at making Placid a go the Festivus or what ever they called it seemed to me to be a failure. Im not an engineer but comon sense tells you that failed experiments are not a building block to future success. Just my 2 cents.

You must be getting much up in years.;) Most toll plazas now collect only in one direction so they are double and stand at $1.50 per car. The ones that collect in both directions are at 75¢ and many entrances collect just 50¢-Our trip from south Jersey up to the Adirondacks years ago used to cost us round trip in tolls $10 total. Now the cost is closer to $30. But of course our government has been telling us that we have had virtually no inflation.

And they have implemented a 50¢ fee at many of the entrances where before there was either no fee or a lower amount.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part II: (Insert Title Here)

Probably not.

Probably not as memorable as 8/9/20 either which was when my mother was born. (It was called 9.8.20 there. ;) )

I had figured you might be the only one to catch my post and it's significance. Bonzai!!
