Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part II: (Insert Title Here)

The D-III Frozen Four contract is through 2014. There is talk that after the Frozen Four in Philly, the next Frozen Four will be a D-I / D-III combination event.

There will be a conflict the first season the ECAC moves back to Lake Placid. But, that can be solved by either having the tournament Friday, Sunday, or making the championship game an undercard to the D-III Championship game.

The only thing with that is that they'd have to shift the schedules by a combination of three weeks (whether D-I earlier, D-III later, or a combination of the two). I can't wait to read the butthurt about that.

I'm sure Middlebury's president will find a way to blame RPI, Clarkson, and SLU for his university's athletic shortcomings again.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012 Part II: (Insert Title Here)

... I would still pull for Albany. (I would have a much better chance of seeing Jenny driving DrD around in the Trabant with the tourney up here. )/QUOTE] Jillian's on North Pearl Street (closing tonight?) will be converted into parking garage for Trabants, adding a little zippiness to the whole North Pearl scene. :D

PS It's really raining hard this afternoon... I suspect the Golf outing has made it's way to the 19th hole by now. Will report later. ;)

Tourney is Monday. Call me at home if you want details.

Happy Belated Birthday, coach Appert! :)

It was yesterday; he's now 38.

8/9/74.

I defended my thesis on 7/30/74 and started working on 8/26/74.
I was probably drunk that day. (Not really. Actually I was on vacation in LA and Las Vegas. Maybe I was in Disneyland.)

And as memorable as 8/9/45!;)

I'm cool with that...it'd actually be cool to meet some DIII folks and see the games. I know the lacrosse finals are combined that way - DI/DIII in the same venue, not surprised they are thinking of it for hockey.

It can get touchy in Placid with more than one event going on. Back in the 90's we were up there for an ECAC tournament and there was another event going on (high school? just not sure) and everything was packed-hotels, motels, restaurants, etc. The town is great but did not handle that episode real well.

Commute in, whether it be from Saranac Lake or somewhere else. That's what I'd do, at least.

OUTSTANDING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The tourney debacle is OVER !!! Yeeee haaa! If they're smart, they'll name LP the permanent official tourney host and be done with it.
Saw a tweet earlier today from CHN that said it was a "close" vote for a return to Lake Placid from the league members. So everyone isnt on board with this decision, mainly because of the ice size. Personally, I would have liked to see Providence get a shot but I guess im ok with Lake Placid...

Just some speculation on my part but depending on how the voting went down, I wonder if this could have any affect on a possible league split we were talking about earlier this off season. If I had to guess, Id say Clarkson and SLU were definite yes votes, as well as possibly Union and RPI.

I would not be surprised if RPI was a "no" vote. Coach Appert is very much against having the ECAC championship at LP because of the ice size.

Yeah because we have played so much better in Atlantic City and Albany in the championship game. I support Coach Appert and whatever his vote was if we ever find out, but lets just get to the final four, end of story.

We normally try to stay in LP. We could commute from our house which takes about 40 minutes (depending on weather). But is much more enjoyable to stay in town and party until the late hours after an RPI win. The trip from down in NJ is about 6 hours-but that is only if we can get the heck out of this crowded state on the Garden State Pkwy in one piece. I despise that 90 mile part of the trip.

I found the GSP rather enjoyable on my trip to Atlantic City a few years back. Granted, I was travelling off-peak.

We have come home from Troy after an RPI game and hit the GSP as late as 1AM only to get stuck in bumper to bumper nastiness. FD you were fortunate. I will admit that the high speed EZ pass lanes have helped. The less often you have to come to a stop and restart at a toll plaza the safer it is. Oh, BTW, on your next trip down be prepared-tolls were raised 50% this past Jan 1!! Forget about it if the weather is rainy or snowy-people down here have no clue how to drive in any of that.
