Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

True, but I'm not that concerned with gas prices hovering around $4 and unemployment unfortunately so high. The incumbent has some serious issues.

True but he has been able to fool an awful lot into thinking that just giving him more years in office will help. I am also not as concerned with $4 gas (although $5 gas is just around the corner). What I am concerned with is how we inject about one more goal per game into our offense for next season.;)

If you get $5 gas, we're screwed, as NJ is typically one of the cheapest states in the country when it comes to gas.

As for getting one more goal per game, we need to get shots on net and elevated. The cycle motion play might work in basketball, but it doesn't really work all that well for us in hockey.

I wonder what the over/under is on how many banners Union is going to raise next season. :D

Well, they have to add a year to the banner they already have...then add a banner for each round of the tournament...

Don't forget the All-Americans. :) (I assume you are referring to both the ECAC and NCAA tourneys.)

I wouldn't put it past them to pull a USSR and do it when they play us. (like when the USSR brought out the Challenge Cup trophy before the USSR/USA game at MSG)

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

OK here it is lets get this thing started.....Paul Kelly for ECACHL commisioner....Shagwell's reign should be done.I believe the debacle in Atlantic City this year w/no TV contract is the final straw. Its not what he does its what he doesn't do thats become the big problem.I can think of no one better to lead our league into the future than Mr.Kelly.I believe Shagwell engineered Kelly leaving college hockey inc. because he felt threatened by a guy who can get things done, has connections, and is always moving forward. In the ever changing lanscape that is college hockey the ECACHL needs to become proactive not reactive and I don't see that happening w/the current regime at all .Just maybe we should be expanding taking in some teams that thier time has come or possibly bleeding off a hockey east school or 2.This all should be explored if not a possibilty at least we should be looking at it.Instead it appears we are just sitting in a corner sucking are collective thumbs waiting to react to what comes down the pike.Shagwell has not given me any reason to think otherwise. After all we are the ticket buying public who pays Shagwells salary and we deserve better than were getting ! We need Paul Kelly NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!

You bring up some interesting and even valid points. Kelly might very well be a good choice to replace Hagwell, if the ECAC was actually contemplating a move. Unless you have access to inside information, several of your points about Hagwell are pure speculation. That is not to say that they are untrue, it is just that I have not seen any proof that he engineered Kelly's firing or that he is not working behind the scenes on league realignment and other issues. The lack of TV coverage for the ECAC tournament was a major black eye for the league, but remember, most of the NCAA tournament was relagated to a very minor national outlet in ESPNU. College Hockey needs a major push, but I don't think that will happen until more big name schools come into the D1 ranks.

As for expansion, I think the ECAC members, at least the Ivies, have been happy with the make-up of the league. More teams would force the Ivies to drop some long-standing rivals or eliminate the 29-game limit. I have heard nothing to suggest that they are prepared to do that. If the Ivies pull out of the ECAC, which some of us believe is likely, then I would hope that the ECAC has a plan in place to bring in new members or it will either become a "mid-major" conference, like Atlantic Hockey and the new WCHA, or disappear entirely. The only other option is to "pull a Hockey East" and proactively recruit some other schools and spin-off a new league. The next two years could be very active and very interesting.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

Has anyone gotten any information about renewing season tickets yet and how will they handle the prices with the team not playing a home series this past season? I checked the box to roll over the cost of those tickets to next season tickets...got my tax returns back and need to figure how much to not gamble....I mean reinvest into the economy so I can renew my tickets :)

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

Today is 10 April 2012. There are 179 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 6 October for the start of next season.

That is the day that an exhibition game is supposedly scheduled.

Re: RPI Off-Season Thread 2012: An Off-Season to Be Optimistic

I saw on the schedules thread that the WMU series might be off the RPI schedule and replaced with a series against SCSU the week between Christmas and New Years. That would free up a weekend in October, wonder if we could see the n/c Union game in January moved to October, so RPI gets a weekend off later in the season or maybe split up the two conference games the first weekend of the ECAC season.

Perhaps that n/c Union game can be played in Lake Placid instead of possibly at the TUC. If CCT and SLU dont have anything scheduled that weekend (10/27), maybe we could see a return of the "Halloween Havoc" event.

This is unlikely, given we heard through a press report that St. Cloud State will be going to the Catamount Cup, and that would prevent the RPI series.
