The original reason for these posts many years ago was to keep the thread on the first page. That doesn't seem to be necessary anymore. :)

I believe you are right about Helfrich not being 100%, but when he was, he had very good hands and gave his linemates some great passes. As for Cullen, He showed that he could score as a freshman, he should be able to do it again.
I also think that the arrival of D'Amigo and Pirri changed the make up of the team. Many of the players from the previous year were reduced to part timers, and others put in different situations than they played in the year before. Some did not seem to buy into their new responsibilities.
I am sure that seeing the possibilities from last year will elevate their games next year.
As for Tapper, I think he used up his eligibility. :( . He sure would look good with this crew.

Considering the general decrease in scoring over the years, JL is on Tapper's level offensively, although he doesn't appear to have his mean streak.

The Annual Times Union Best of voting is currently going on and there is a category for best college sports coach and best college sports player. Let's give Seth and the guys some support. Go to timesunion.com and there is a link to the survey on the banner at the top of the page. Note that you don't need to vote for every category so you can just skip to the RPI ones if you don't want to vote for the other ones. There is also a category for best 4 year college so vote for RPI there too.

Patrick Koudys has been selected to participate in the 2010 Team Canada Selects team which will play in the Under 20 Three Nations Tournament in Norrtalje Sweden starting tomorrow. http://www.ohahockey.org/news_article/show/47232?referrer_id=12829-news. Thanks to MikeR for posting this roster on the Clarkson Roundtable.

Edit: Apparently it is actually a U19 tourney http://stats.swehockey.se/0910/html/U19LK/page0027.html. The other teams are Sweden and Finland.

Can you imagine how many goals Tapper would have scored in 1999 when he got 31-if he did not spend so much time in the penalty box? Add one sniper with a shot like his for next year and we will have a year to remember:)

Change "had" to has. Last time I checked Tyler was do back this fall, and to my knowledge, he's had no injuries to his hands. When he was in the lineup, Helfrich looked disinterested and not willing to do the dirty work in the corners or in front of the net. For sure, he did not look like he had the speed he used to display. I have no idea whether there is/was a physical or mental malady. If Seth says he was a healthy scratch, that's what I'm going with. In any event, I expect a bounceback year for Tyler, not good news for opponents. :D

That might have been one impact that Jerry & Brandon, but I saw a much important change in the team -- a more confident attitude and a refusal to quit in games that clearly came about as a result of the new blood on the team. Certainly they made boneheaded freshman plays at times, but clearly their winning attitude changed the calculus in the locker room. This bodes well for the future, IMO.

Given the numbers, any forward who isn't buying in to what Seth is cookin' will be holding a clipboard on Fri./Sat. nights.

Wicked-all true. But my discerning medical eye tells me all was not quite right with Tyler for most of this year. I hope it was all temporary and that the long off season gives him the time to get it all back together. But I have seen nagging physical problems make for some strange long lasting problems on the ice. Nothing would make me more happy than to have Helfrich flying at 100% and arriving at the puck with intent. :)

Just spitballin' here, what if he was 100% OK physically and just wasn't playing up to par because of other issues?

That is kind of what I was alluding to-I know of several cases in the past where players have physically healed well enough to play but just could not go at 100% for that very reason. Have seen it with back injuries especially-but I suppose it can be with any orthopedic problem. It can be rather subtle-he just does not seem to be moving at full throttle as I had seen him in the past.

A good thought-I was just focusing on the physical aspect-guess i just can't stop playing doctor. Ralph's post about being perhaps a little gun shy also makes a lot of sense. There just seems to be a little lack of all out intensity there.
