Re: RPI Off-Season III: Another Helping of Mindless Speculation and Idle Chit Chat
ECAC officiating could be better and should be much more consitent, but Feola is right when he says most fans don't know the rules. That is the case in most sports. Many fans know most of the rules but often are wrong in their interpretations. Read some of the other threads and watch some of the games from other leagues and you will see that they have some bad officials as well. The ECAC seems to have more bad ones, but people don't like officials and it is easy to take out your frustrations on them. You are right about some coaches and programs getting the best or worst from certain officials. That will never change. Bill cleary and harvard used to really intimidate officials, now it is Cornell. You just have to play through it.
Quote from Peter Feola, "Most people don’t know the rules of the game ...". Finally, we get into the thinking of the ECAC refs. We don't know anything, we're just dumb fans. I think this arrogant line of thought comes from Paul Stewart. What a softball interview. I would have hoped that Stewie would have resigned after the season the refs had last year but again there is no confidence in the league office or the refs. If I had conducted the interview I would have gone into the bias that exists against our great Coach and RPI. Why they don't call embellishment on the Aquatic Team from Ithaca and use to call it on JDA all the time, etc., etc. etc.
