RPI Off-Season III: Another Helping of Mindless Speculation and Idle Chit Chat

Re: RPI Off-Season III: Another Helping of Mindless Speculation and Idle Chit Chat

Jesus is the reason for the season JM.
Disagree.. Please state where, whether in the bible or anywhere else, Jesus stated that there should be a celebration of his birthday and that it should be in December. Flag dude, like many other heretics before him, has it right, JC wasn't born in the winter, even religious scholars at the Vatican will tell you that. Men made the holiday by adapting a previously existing celebration.

Since when is a single hockey doubleheader played on December 10th a "Christmas Tournament?" Heck, the Army-Navy football game has been moved back to the 10th this year (an abomination in my opinion) but I don't think anyone views it as now being part of the Christmas season. Last year we played BU on the 11th and it wasn't called the Red Christmas Rumble. At least the event we affectionately and unofficially called for decades "the Christmas tournament" (most years its official title was the RPI Invitational), was played during Christmas week. Perhaps someday we'll even go back to applying the Christmas label to things of true religious significance instead of being offended because it wasn't applied to a hockey game that isn't being played anywhere near the holy day.
I agree. Maybe they should have called it something else.... like Festivus!

Lake Placid's annual Holiday Village Stroll is going on in town that same weekend which might have something to do with the naming of the event.

I've cancelled my trip to NYC for tomorrow. Irene will probably dissipate now. :)

That's why it moved out of Albany in the first place. $$$$$$$$$$$$$

DUH!
My point is that I hope the league coaches and adminsitrators decide to put some resources into the conference and make it something to be proud of once again. Right now the level of play is great, but the administration of the league is not.

Would be nice. Jen and i could certainly do without it. As of this morning the forecasters have this annoyance coming right over us on sunday morning.

The other question is since bad news is supposed to come in threes, and we have already had Tuesday's earthquake, I wonder what the third one is.

I doubt that the Festivus logo counts. ;)

There was the tornado that ripped through Wayne and Cayuga counties, so I consider Irene the 3rd. ;)

Hokydope is posting regularly again, being backed by bored BC fans who have stooped to trolling ECAC threads.

JM, when did you start speaking for the Vatican. There is a large body of evidence that Christmas was in the winter, see article.

Jesus's birth being in March was something I had picked up from the time I was in Catholic school. However, JM, that's no guarantee that it wasn't winter. Part of March, after all, is in the winter. The winter solstice, however, was a very popular time for celebration, so it was recommended that Christians join in on the fun.

Don't bother arguing with him, AD. Some people are just so convinced that they're better than everyone else - it's why he's been on my ignore list for a heap long time.

He would be the one we would hang onto in case of strong winds-or stand close to in a bar fight.;)

That's true - I meant the beginning of winter around the solstice.

Re: RPI Off-Season III: Another Helping of Mindless Speculation and Idle Chit Chat

In honor of Jeremy Coupal and Alicia Miksic, today is 27 August 2011. There are 35 days (5 weeks) until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 1 October for the start of next season.
