RPI Off-Season III: Another Helping of Mindless Speculation and Idle Chit Chat

Re: RPI Off-Season III: Another Helping of Mindless Speculation and Idle Chit Chat

Doc,

I know we've had this discussion before, but for me personally, having gone through 4 years of RPI (including a handful of grad courses) and 3 years of law school, this was not at all the case. I think it seems like times have changed a bit and RPI is simply not as rigorous as it used to be (for whatever reason).

Probably so. I came into RPI as a real high school hot shot with superb SAT scores and turned down 2 Ivies to go to Troy. I thought RPI with the Science/Math emphasis was just the right fit for me. I also thought it would be a breeze. First semester Physics and calculus cured me of that in a hurry. Don't get me wrong-my years at the Tute were incredible fun with grand Marshall Week, etc. But during the week it was all busines just to survive. There were courses like BioPhysicis and Physical Chemistry where I just sweated out every exam. I was able to obtain a 3.886 average in the days before grade inflation but for the first time in my life I had to work for it. The experience made me appreciate the rigors of an RPI education and as i mentioned it made Medical School a breeze in comparison. If i had to do it all again-I would change absolutely nothing. I am sure lots of things have changed over the years (after all I left there in 1966) and I am not sure it is all for the better.

I think the main difference is grade inflation. Even the hockey players make the Dean's list. :D

The hockey players I knew back in the 60's most certainly could have benefitted from grade inflation.;)

Given the recent thread about TV games, was wondering: Are we still stuck with a B2 contract, or is RPI-TV actually going to stream games? I do like going to the games and all, but it gets expensive, especially considering gas prices (a buck more to the gallon than they were last year, and no I am not driving some sub-crapact that can't even get me to Utica).

FD: I have been so disappointed with B2 that I have passed on subscribing the past year. RPI-TV does a fantastic job and I only hope they find a way to broadcast games again soon. Also carry the hope that the major TV networks like NHL and College sports carry an occassional game of ours. Love the publicity it can give the program.

IIRC, RHamilton said that B2 has one more year on its contract.

The WMU thread is reporting that Andy Murray was named their new coach. He was one of the finalists when SA was named and supposedly was offered the job.

From a little bit of Facebook stalking, it looks like the Captain's "practices" will begin in a couple weeks, at least including the freshmen.

See this article for Murray's name associated with RPI job. Donnie Vaughn was also in the running .

Kudos to Ken Ralph for selecting SA.
