I respectfilly disagree...I don't know what Bailen "doesn't" do that would not make him Hobey worthy at least in the initial go around !!!!!!!!!!!!

What is your criteria for him being Hobey worthy? If it's based upon the fact he has almost as many points as Polacek, not exactly the best answer.

Re: RPI MMXI III: Overanalyzing The Iron Men and Other Uses of Internet Bandwidth

and I would say that if you look at the top 20 that every team there has had some losses, often surprising, against teams they should have beaten (note the multiple threads about Merrymack beating BC 2x this year). Fact is, its seem like everyone is vulnerable on any given night - more so than I have seen in the past. Yes, we need to win games. If we keep up the D and goaltending that we have had and get just an ounce more scoring our record would be off the charts and winning evey game (statistically). Right now, night in and night out, I think that we can win and that there is a general attitude with this team and program that they will. I am still very excited about this year - and from watching the recruits thread and reading articles like the one posted above, I am just about busting out of my skin for he prospects of next years team and beyond. Said differently, if you are a fan and hung up on the individual games / nights rather than where this program is and where its going, you are missing the boat. Please come join the rest of us.

"Huh? Just stating what the team would probably say in the media if asked. I enjoy reading these articles about the team and think its well deserved but taking my cherry colored glasses off and looking at the big picture, they are still a year or two away from being a team that night in and night out I would be willing to say "yep, we will win tonight".

This is one of those cases where your both right !!!!!

Re: RPI MMXI III: Overanalyzing The Iron Men and Other Uses of Internet Bandwidth

Well, that would mean that those two series would have to start within 48 hours of each other, to be NCAA compliant. I'm not sure which I'd rather see.

What exactly is the NCAA rule? I am unaware of this one.

Well, we were expected to start off the league 0-6 according to some media members. Do I also need to share Coach Mike Gundy (Oklahoma State football)'s opinion on the media?

There's no guarantees that a team will win. Otherwise, the games wouldn't be played at all. We'd also end up having a championship decided similar to college football's bowl subdivision of D-I.

Re: RPI MMXI III: Overanalyzing The Iron Men and Other Uses of Internet Bandwidth

I think it has something to do with when games may be played to ensure that the students are actually spending time in class and not excessively skipping out simply because they're on a sports team.

Re: RPI MMXI III: Overanalyzing The Iron Men and Other Uses of Internet Bandwidth

Can anyone confirm/deny whether TW3 is showing tonights game? Don't have a real good feeling that we will receive the feed but anyone with knowledge of this please reply. Thanks in advance.

Re: RPI MMXI III: Overanalyzing The Iron Men and Other Uses of Internet Bandwidth

Ed Weaver's weekend preview http://www.troyrecord.com/articles/...4d2fcb4208e9e191874035.txt?viewmode=fullstory.

Another Ed Weaver article including a discussion of next year's schedule http://www.troyrecord.com/articles/...4d2fcb8480244045454205.txt?viewmode=fullstory. The RPI tourney has indeed been scrapped :(, really no surprise at this point.

OOC:
Bentley, perhaps in November
MSU-Mankato, two games to open season
@ RIT
Lake Placid, vs. Union
@ Notre Dame, mid-October
@ Ferris, 2 in mid-October
CC, 2 in late October
UConn tourney, UML and Army or UConn, late December
Whats the earliest the official season can begin? October 1st?

Re: RPI MMXI III: Overanalyzing The Iron Men and Other Uses of Internet Bandwidth

From the article, it sounded like it might be a three-game trip to Ferris and ND. Also, conceivably RIT and Lake Placid are the same weekend.
Just a thought but perhaps the Mankato series will be Sat. and Sun. October 1-2. Then the trip to RIT on the 7th or 8th, cant be the same weekend as the LP game because Union is also playing at RIT. Lake Placid on Saturday the 15th. Im thinking a Wednesday night game on the 19th at Notre Dame followed by the two game set at Ferris St. that Friday and Saturday(21/22). Ending the month with the series home vs Colorado College.

There is a glowing feature column in the TU today on that Polacek guy. ;) I couldn't find a link in the online edition but maybe it will be up later. I didn't realize he was up to 190 lbs.

Slow start to the work day, so here you go direct from the NCAA handbook:

16.8.1.2.1 Departure/Return Expense Restrictions. An eligible student-athlete may receive actual and necessary travel expenses to represent the institution in athletics competition, provided the student-athlete departs for the competition not earlier than 48 hours prior to the start of the actual competition and remains not more than 36 hours (24 hours in men’s basketball) following the conclusion of the actual competition even if the student-athlete does not return with the team. (Revised: 1/10/91 effective 8/1/91, 4/29/10 effective 8/1/10)

Excecptions are made for teams traveling to/from Hawaii and Alaska, and travel during official vacation periods (among others; there are about 10 exceptions in all).

I think this is the rule burgie12 was referring to, but not totally sure.

Quite simply, one of the best to ever don the Cherry and White!!!!

For 2011, it's October 1st. Earliest date for the 2012 season will be October 6th. It's based on when the national championship tournament (regionals) starts:

17.12.3 First Contest. In men’s ice hockey, an institution shall not play its first contest (game or scrimmage) with outside competition prior to the Saturday of the 25th full weekend prior to the start of the NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Championship. In women’s ice hockey, an institution shall not play its first contest (game or scrimmage) with outside competition prior to the Saturday of the 25th full weekend prior to the start of the Women’s National Collegiate Ice Hockey Championship. (See Figure 17-2.) (Revised: 1/10/95 effective 8/1/95, 3/16/07)

Correct. I was referring to the fact that you can't leave for a game before the 48 hour window. So, if we're playing those 3 games in one trip, it would have to be Wed / Fri-Sat, or Fri-Sat / Mon.

I lament the passing of the RPI Invitational (to use the name by which it was known when I was a student), though, like Ralph, I am not terribly surprised that this has come to pass. :(

As I recollect, a number of years ago, North Dakota played in and won our tournament, then went on to capture the NCAA championship.

When Sports Illustrated did its obligatory yearly college hockey article reporting on the NCAA championship, the article mentioned the RPI tournament, and not in a complimentary way. According to the North Dakota player quoted in the article, when North Dakota won the RPI tournament, instead of a championship trophy, the team was awarded a wristwatch in acknowledgement of their achievement. Not a wristwatch for each member of the team - one wristwatch for the whole team.

If we were that cheap, I guess we deserved to be dissed.

I don’t think the prestige of the RPI tournament ever recovered from that article.

At least we did cause anyone to lose their amateur status. :)

It wouldn't surprise me if the tourney returned if and when a BTHC caused western teams to have more room on their schedules for OOC games.

The passing of the tournament is indeed sad...thats were I saw my first RPI game and fell in love....but time moves on and if anything in life is certain its that things are going to change...so I will move on...
