Watched the video report and it was good to see Higgs on the road to recovery. He seems like a nice articulate young man. He mentioned the EMS personnel arriving to treat him, which led me to wonder what medical people are usually at the games in addition to the training staff? Also, should ambulances be on standby as they are at football games, for instance? I know this would be a potentially significant expense but when you see accidents like this it makes you wonder, particularly where a few minutes can be so critical.

I know there is a large contingent of EMT's @ the HFH during games you see them all around and there is always an ambulance parked along the south side of the field house on game night/I have no knowledge of it but it has always been my impression that these EMT's are students at the 'tute because they are college age kids.I suspect this might be some of program for pre-med students.I have seen them in action a few times when people got sick or hit by a puck and I must say they are quite competent....FWIW

There is a hospital about 200 yards down the hill too!

Those EMTs are a part of the club (not sure if there's a more formal term for it) that is called the RPI Ambulance (or RPIA). And I agree, very competent.

Luckily, there was something similar at Huntsville. The hospital was less than 5 blocks away.

ECAC write up on the front page of USCHO states that RPI is undefeated when the opposition scores first. 7-0-1. I don;t think that I have ever seen that statistic so one sided in all the time I have been following hockey.
The norm is that you lose over 60% of games where the opposition scores first. (the 60% is an estimated figure).
It just goes to show that this team does not give up easily, or ever.

RPI isn't undefeated when the opposition scores first. Harvard game (1-0)? Yale game (4-2)? CC loss (2-1)? The opposition scored first in all of those. Maybe the writer meant when we score first. That makes a little more sense, as Northeastern would be the tie, and in all of our losses, the opposition scored first.

EDIT: burgie12 beat me.

OK. Who told RPI that I just retired? Fess up. :D

I just received a letter stating that I will receive a phone call in the next few days telling me how I can plan my estate to benefit the 'Tute.

BTW, my official retirement luncheon is today. It didn't make sense to schedule it last week when many people were out of town.

Just a schedule note for next season, according to the UConn thread the four teams in the UConn Classic next season will be UConn, RPI, UMass-Lowell and Army, with RPI's first round opponent being Lowell. I wonder if RPI will still be playing down at West Point next season, it seems to be a every-other year game between the two teams and Army played in Troy last season. I hope the series keeps going because I enjoy going to West Point especially if theres a football game going on the same day.

Ill add my congrats to Ralph as well. :)

Ralph, did this person have Nigerian accent and tell you that a check for $3,000 must be mailed to them first, then you would get more info...:) Enjoy your retirement and welcome to your new unofficial, unpaid, but highly appreciated job as RPI hockey historian.

Many congrats, Ralph. Why am I not surprised the 'Tute's trying to get all your money?

Just listening to the Slap Schotts podcast from earlier today and Ken confirmed that the penalty minutes will be displayed on the old scoreboard above the old stage area where they keep track of shots on goal. I think it'll be interesting to see how that works out.
