Re: RPI III: Revenge of the Seth
Thanks...the reply to the Christmas gift question was a bit odd (can you say: feels threatened)

The whole thing will ring hollow for me if Addessa isn't a part of the ceremonies. IMO.
It's probably due to the recent addition of a little Rocket.![]()
I know there had been questions in previous threads about why we were playing so many matinée games. Tonight's game notes (PDF) say that there will be a HS hockey game following the Harvard-RPI tilt next Saturday. So, that answers one question.
I'd say that it is more an act of goodwill, allowing HS teams to play in the "big house". Being able to play a game in the same rink as a college team, without playing in a vast, empty space like the TUC? That's a great chance for some big exposure, and I would love to have had that opportunity while playing HS b-ball.That doesn't really answer any question, if anything it raises the question as to why they would put the RPI game first over a HS game knowing that an early start will guarantee less fans.
If anything i'd say it has to do with the ECAC teams wanting to get home earlier and maybe having a safety net for weather.
it had an impact the last time for sure against Colgate. It will ALWAYS have an impact and attendance has already been slim(relatively speaking) this year.I'd say that it is more an act of goodwill, allowing HS teams to play in the "big house". Plus, this is a Saturday game that is being pushed up to an early time, not a Friday game. I don't think that it will have any large impact on the attendance except for the people that forget and don't show up til 6:45.

New, more reader friendly outlay at Without A Peer.
Thanks to Dr. Roger Grice for teaching me HCI at the Institute.

Why can't the HS team play in the same rink but at 4:00 instead of 7:00, it would have no impact for that game since the only people who attend are parents and friends anyway.
Since there is no difference for the HS team and you're not going to hurt the college team FOR the HS team - it either has something to do with the visiting team or what Appert wants. Honestly, it's even hurting the team itself with a shorter turnaround between games which means less prep/recovery time - I don't see any logical reason other than Harvard being able to get back home earlier to study or whatever.
Roger Grice is the ****ing man..nuff said.
This year's home game against Colgate was the highest attendance that a Colgate-RPI game has seen since 06-07 (that includes the 07-08 Saturday night game). It's also the Saturday home game that had the highest attendance other than the Family Weekend game vs AIC.
Ask the BU and BC fans if they wanted a game played before theirs at Fenway. Ask any HEA school if they want to play the early game or the late game for the semis during their league tournament. All of them want the early game. One of the reasons that will be given is that the ice is a known commodity during the early game. Having a full game played on the ice immediately before you skate out for warm-ups changes the ice. I never played, so I can't give you a definitive reason or offer my own insight, but I think that Appert made a conscious effort to play the matinée next Saturday.
Seth Appert said:“Momentum is (only) as important as the next big play you make, or the next big play the other team makes, or the next 40-save effort your goalie gives you of the next 40-save effort the opponent puts on you.
“I think momentum is fleeting,” Appert said. “Doing things the right way, good habits, consistency in your practices (are what’s important).”
I know I am going to get blasted for this but here goes. 5 on 5 needs to be stronger as I said after last weekend. Since our power play was shut down and we didn't get a score 5 on 5, we counted on our PK for all of our offensive chances. I like the new PK but we need more than that. I am a Helfrich fan and was hugely disappointed to see he was a healthy scratch. He needs to be out there on the top line. There needs to be a new form of motivation on this team. Sitting out not only punishes him but all the other players. Helfrich sitting out hurts this team especially when he is a top line guy. Call me crazy but you need your best players in the game to have the best chance of winning. Put Helfrich back on the top line and watch that line connect as it always has. The D need to be quicker in their break out decisions and executions. One second delays trap us and it is hard for us to then break it out. Disappointed in the results of this gametime to regroup.
We may not have scored 5v5, but that's not to say we didn't have our chances. I wouldn't put this on the shoulders of Helfrich, though. We needed the size out there, so Rabbani came out to play, and Tyler just happened to draw short stick. Should it have been Watts instead? Maybe, but we'll never know that situation unless you can transport yourself to an alternate dimension. We (the TEAM) just plain didn't want it in the 3rd, that's all.
But, that's behind us. It's time to buckle down on the rest of the season and focus. Let's think about playing 60 minutes of good hockey on Friday.
