Re: RPI Hockey 2019 - 2020 Part II: Moving on with 2020 Vision!

Not Hockey but...... RPI basketball gets an at large bid to the NCAA Division III tournament and plays new England College in the first round. This is even after losing in OT to Ithaca for the Liberty league championship. LGR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am in no way a basketball fan but have to put this up here as i am an RPI fan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agree completely. Virtually sure we get to face Harvard (SLU will have its hands full but you never know). If not we get Dartmouth (doubtful that both lower seeds can take out 5th and 6th seeds). The next round for us is a best 2 out of 3 and that is significant. We could throw in a stinker game and still survive. That is not the case after then (assuming we can move on) when all games are really for us one and done, lose and go home and the season ends. looking at this season we have swept 4 teams in the ECAC but only been beaten twice by 2. For some odd reason we just did not match up well with Yale for both games and lost each time. however, those were a bit earlier in the season and perhaps now the results would be different. In any case it would take a really odd set of circumstances for us to face them again this year, unlikely to happen. But if we do get to move on past Harvard (and that is assuming a lot), the other team that has beaten us twice will loom large for us as I cannot see much chance that we would not have to face Cornell to get an automatic invite to the NCAA. We have played them well. If we had to face them in a 2 out of 3 instead of Harvard, i would not be optimistic. But thankfully, if we ever get that far and they stand in the way, it is just one game and anything could happen, especially if our goaltender is as hot as he has been. Harvard will not be easy by any means but you have it right when you say there will be no surprises and they are not one of the teams this year that has overwhelmed us with a sweep.
BTW I would not be upset if we never saw Western Michigan again for a long, long time!!

Remember that the #8-seeded RPI women came d@mn close to upsetting the #1-seeded Cornell women a year ago at Lynah. That was probably due at least 95% to Lovisa Selander. IMO, our men's team is much closer to Cornell this year than that.

But first Harvard.

Of course first Harvard. But we now have 2 weeks to think about things and is always interesting to ponder what if. Right at this moment we seem to be a team that even if we can be beaten, we will be very difficult to beat twice.

Wondering which if any of the #5-#8 seeds might be most vulnerable this coming weekend??

By KRACH it's what you'd expect. Harvard is the most likely to advance, Colgate is the least. Brown has about a 3-in-10 chance to move on, Union 1-in-6, Princeton 1-in-10, and SLU 1-in-30.

Harvard and SLU we know split. Dartmouth swept Princeton but needed overtime for one of those. Yale shut out Union. Colgate was swept by Brown.

From that information, it would seem Colgate is most vulnerable. However, anything can happen. In 2009, both the 11 and 12 seeds won in the first round. In 2005, we had won the regular season vs. Brown, but were swept in the playoffs.

? Dartmouth and Yale ? Even with those Krach numbers and odds, other than SLU, things look a bit closer to me.

My pick would be Brown to knock off Colgate.

i was thinking the same. We saw Princeton a couple times this year and i think their chances might be a bit better than 1 in10. If any of these series go 3 games, it can simply be a matter of who has anything left for that Sunday game.

I mean, if Union is 1 in 6 (also I should have said 1 in 7, but still), Yale is by definition 5 in 6. Similarly, Dartmouth is around 9 in 10 to beat Princeton. This is all over in my projection thread if you want exact numbers.

The basketball team will play New England College at Tufts University's gym at 3:30 Friday afternoon. I'm guessing that a link to a video stream will be available on RPIathletics, if anyone wants to check it out. (Hey, there's no RPI hockey game that afternoon.)

If they win that game, they will play the winner of Tufts vs. Western Connecticut State on Saturday.

If they play as they had for most of the season, no reason not to expect they could move through 2 or more rounds. i watched the show today and the analyst there had nothing but good to say about our team. I know nothing about basketball other to bet on the March Madness games and often do quite well. But Division III is totally foreign to me and I did not even recognize many of the school names as being legitimate colleges.

knew that but wondered why you did not have them all in the post. you are normally so complete that i depend on the information!!

Kepler posted this link on eLynah today. :)

Click on the words 'this link' - RB can be Cryptic at times

I usually post links separately. Only on rare occasions do I do it that way which is the way most people link. That is because I am red-green colorblind and usually can't see the links myself. However I thought that for those who are not "handicapped" those links stand out. Don't they?
