Re: RPI Hockey 2019 - 2020 Part II: Moving on with 2020 Vision!

yes the odds are favorable and Princeton has only won 2 league games (both against the only team below them SLU). But they did tie us and have tied Harvard. We have seen Princeton a couple times this year (including the RPI game down here) and they have been able to stay close and played some team very tough. Hopefully we can come out early and take control and not allow this one to become tense. Tonight just might make next week's road trip a bit more relaxed.

Doc knows Princeton. And we've had plenty of tough nights against them, even when their record has been poor.

I've wondered if part of our success against the ECAC since January has been that we've been overlooked by some of our opponents. That we 'caught them by surprise.' Let's not do the same with Princeton. We must respect our opponent and play our game.

Re: RPI Hockey 2019 - 2020 Part II: Moving on with 2020 Vision!

That was a must win, and we did it. OK, pretty much everything now is "must-win".

With SLU doing us a solid, we are now within striking distance of the bye. If we sweep the weekend, or at least beat Harvard and then have the same result against Dartmouth as Harvard has against Union, we get the bye based on number of wins. Quinnipiac and Union are presently in overtime, so we'll see what happens there, but we don't have control over that comparison (although again we would most likely get the comparison on wins). Most important thing is to beat Harvard.

We did not over look them. We played a very good game against a team we should have beaten and we did. The score 7-1 is not totally indicative as Princeton was a little sloppy in our zone and also a little unlucky as passes just missed by a fraction and of course, we have Savory who just seems to be in the right place most of the time. he also gets out of the net and controls the puck behind the net to quickly get it out of the zone for a rush up ice. We had a weekend where we outscored the opponents 11-1 and I hope we will not be wishing we saved a few of those for next weekend. Now let's prove we can win 2 more on the road and get on a real roll!!!!!!! Go Red!!!!!!

That may well depend on which Harvard shows up for our game. the one that walked over Clarkson yesterday or the one that SLU had a field day against tonight?? We have to make sure that we show up with the team that played this entire weekend (actually with the team that played against QU would be more than sufficient).

Re: RPI Hockey 2019 - 2020 Part II: Moving on with 2020 Vision!

Union called for 4 consecutive penalties including one in OT and QU gets to win one that Union had control of.

Re: RPI Hockey 2019 - 2020 Part II: Moving on with 2020 Vision!

Quinnipiac just beat Union, so we can probably consider that one effectively out of reach (still mathematical, but incredibly unlikely). If we want the bye, we must take it from Harvard on Friday.

Re: RPI Hockey 2019 - 2020 Part II: Moving on with 2020 Vision!

Y'all are 8-3-1 in ECAC play since the new year. Now granted two of those losses are against us, but a hot hand come tourny time is still a hot hand come tourny time.

We have been playing with great focus. Glad to see we turned the Tigers into tabbies.

Harvard, with all that talent (and they are very talented), is a real Jeckyll and Hyde team. (H tied Yale and Brown at home last weekend, and beat Clarkson but managed to lose to SLU this weekend.) Let's bring our focus and play our game against whomever shows up. Just win, baby.

Re: RPI Hockey 2019 - 2020 Part II: Moving on with 2020 Vision!

We control our destiny. That's all you can ask for at this point. Win out and we get the bye. Let's do it

Everything hinges on Friday night.

Lose, and there's no bye - and they have to fight to stay in 5th on Saturday.

Tie, and they'd need QU to be swept on the weekend (Brown/Yale) to have an outside chance.

Win, and they get the bye as long as they match or beat Harvard's result on Saturday.

Probably means they need to sweep to get the bye, but a sweep does guarantee it so, as you say, the Engineers do control their own destiny.

Re: RPI Hockey 2019 - 2020 Part II: Moving on with 2020 Vision!

We all basically get the picture at this point, but here's the table:
Code:
   | 3 4 5 6 7 8
----------------------------------------
23 | 5.8 [B]13.5[/B] 5.4 x
24 | [B]9.3[/B] 3.4 0.8
25 | 2.3 [B]36.5[/B]
26 | 0.0 1.4 [B]8.5[/B]
27 | 1.3 [B]12.0[/B]

Just win, baby.

Re: RPI Hockey 2019 - 2020 Part II: Moving on with 2020 Vision!

Could we have both the player of the weekend and the goalie of the weekend in the ECAC? Great senior day for Todd who showed that when set up in the slot he is truly the draft pick Ottawa saw in their crystal ball. I know he will have to do what is best for himself, his family and his career, but being very selfish when I say this, Would love to see him stick around at RPI for one more season. Last time i felt that was in 2000 with Brad Tapper after that fabulous year he scored 31 goals for us. But in his case, they were throwing literally millions at him to leave and you simply cannot ignore that life changing offer.

BTW Owen Savory save percentage for the weekend looks like 57/58 or 0.98275 as he almost pulled off the double shut out!

Earliest quoted odds for next week (and these are likely to change in the next 6 days) are the following-
Win % RPI 34% Harvard 55% Likely score Harvard 4-3 with RPI a 0.5 goal underdog and the over/under total at 6.5 goals.
Apparently we are getting a little more betting respect.

For the Dartmouth game the predicted score is a 3-3 tie and RPI a 46% to 43% slight favorite on the road!! Cannot recall when we were any sort of favorite up there.

Re: RPI Hockey 2019 - 2020 Part II: Moving on with 2020 Vision!

Speaking of stats, I looked up to see if we ever had 3 straight shutouts at home and it only happened once. Bobby Fox (now there’s a name from the past) shutout Carleton (6-0), Springfield (13-0), and Middlebury (6-0) back in 1955. Savory was one turnover away from pulling off the same feat.

I wonder, what were Harvard's odds against SLU?
We control our own destiny, so lets just go out there an do what we did this weekend. Play good solid hockey for sixty minutes a game.

Galajda had two shutouts, although probably with less work than Savory had to deal with. But hard to not give goalie of the week to the guy with the goose egg.

Definitely less work. Galajda only needed 36 saves to pull off the double shutout. Should be interesting to see who gets chosen.
