Re: RPI Hockey 2018 - 2019: 28 Guys Skate onto a Rink ...

I thought the team played well this weekend. Savory once again had a solid outing. Marshall had a tough time controlling rebounds. Tough losses both games. Penalties were a source of concern once again. IMO Koharski turned the time with his missed call on the hooking of Gornall which led directly Vermont's first goal. If that call had been made I don't believe RPI would have lost the game. I didn't see it mentioned any where, Polino was named to the All Tournament team. I thought he had a strong weekend and the line of Linden, Polino and Lappenan played very well. I also liked the line of Hayhurst, Burgess and Wiffen. Let's hope the 7 game skid ends this coming weekend.

Really like Wiffen’s game since he’s been moved to Wing.

Happy New Year to everyone here. I think there's a reason to be a little more optimistic than year's past in 2019. Long ways to go. LGR!

Re: RPI Hockey 2018 - 2019: 28 Guys Skate onto a Rink ...

Happy New Year to all.
We have the talent to play with anyone, but we do not seem to have the talent it takes to put the puck in the net.
We need to find a way to score a lot of ugly goals. Keep the goalies moving from side to side and block their vision.
And most importantly, get the puck on net.
Lets go red!!!!!

FD08,

Jim Hyla started a new thread at eLynah for Cornell's 2019/20 schedule today. He wrote that he would scan in the complete ECAC non-travel partner schedule when he gets home, whenever that is. I will check again later. So far all I know is that we are home vs. Cornell on Friday, 1/10/20, and @ Cornell on Saturday, 2/15/20. One can, of course, figure out when we play Colgate from that.

Also opens up some possibilities on our games with #26 as there are no ECAC games the weekends of 1/24, 1/25 and 2/7, 2/8.
And of course the home game against Harvard is not listed.

And of course the home game against Harvard is not listed.

First day of competition (i.e. when we should play an exhibition match) is 5 October. Possible NC weekends are: 11-12 Oct, 18-19 Oct, 25-26 Oct (Parents Weekend), 1-2 Nov (probably Union), 22-23 Nov (Union's finals), 29-30 Nov (Thanksgiving), not including the first free December weekend because our players need that time to study for Finals but it's possible, 28-29 December, 24-25 January, 7-8 February.

Beanpot is on 3 February and 10 February. In years past, Harvard and Dartmouth have played one of their home/home games on one of the Beanpot weekends. Although the second Beanpot weekend opens up a possibility, I really don't foresee that changing unless Harvard and Dartmouth want something a little closer. We both have it off presently during Union's finals week, so perhaps we make it up then, similar to what we're doing this year with a common off-week? Their exam period is usually the same as ours.

Mayor's Cup will more than likely be 25 January. Although it'd be interesting if it went to 8 February, I just don't see it happening. Obviously the poster is only including men's schedule and not women's, but I would expect to see something similar to what we've seen the past couple years there.

Wild thought... is it possible we could have Freakout vs. a non-conference opponent on 8 February? It is very peculiar that we would have that weekend open, and leads me to believe Coach Smith has a non-conference series up his sleeve vs. either an eastern or B1G opponent (all three leagues presently have an odd number of teams, making a non-con during a bye week very feasible, and is how ASU is able to get a full D-I schedule).

As for opponents... most of this year's games were either reciprocals or home/home. I seem to recall seeing a rumor somewhere that one of our four never-played may be coming soon (given the coach, should be easy to guess which one). UVM I don't see a reciprocal as tournaments are usually one and done. Do we give USMA a home game? More HEA home/home, maybe? This year was 8 HEA, 2 B1G, 1 AHC, 1 ECAC.

I wonder if we will again schedule two games, one at each site, vs. HEA schools as we did three times this season.

I am going to inquire if Jim Hyla also has the women's schedule.

Wouldn't surprise me if it happens again. Coach Smith seemed quite adamant, the first year I asked him about schedule, about ensuring equality in where games are played between opponents, even if it's over a 2-year period. Obviously with HEA it's much easier, as most of the teams are close enough that we can do a home/home, to take care of it in one year. Single AHC will probably remain odd man out since we have the Mayor's cup, but I wouldn't be surprised if reciprocals happen.

Thanks for checking on the women's side of things. :)

Re: RPI Hockey 2018 - 2019: 28 Guys Skate onto a Rink ...

He is going to try to get the women's schedule and will post it on eLynah if he does.

Unless they do it for a non-conference game on 2/8. I don't think it would happen, but it would be a lot of fun to have it one of the old HEA rivals like BC.

I mentioned that as being a possibility in my long analysis. Seems odd to have that sort of a break there. My hypothesis at this point is that this is when Smith got us to be able to play Canisius, and went to the league to ensure it was blocked off. Notice, from eLynah, that the distribution date of the schedule was January of 2018. That's after Smith was hired. In years past, it's been anywhere from 3-5 years in advance.

Edit: In regards to the question near the end of the interview, Simon Kjellberg was born in Nashville while his father played there, although he lists his home in Sweden. I doubt that he is interested in (US) country music.
