Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

oh, knock it off. you are saying that with Jason we win but with Bryce we lose. Go take a cold shower and come back when you are ready to accept that chances are good we'd win either way. :p

Wrong!!!!! We are not safe in the PWR. Go with best possible linep which means Kasdorf in net!

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

As DrD, knsmith, and johnk have said, we should go with Kasdorf. The PWR position is still precarious, and he gives us the best chance to win. If the game is onesided I would put in Merriam, but only then.

Ladies and Gentlemen, tonight while enjoying another RPI victory, I was given some shocking news from one of our favorite and most respected posters AspyDad. In his words, he is hanging up the keyboard and has asked me, as his Section 9 bodyguard and protector, to inform everyone of this great board that he is going into retirement from the USCHO message boards. He has fought long and hard to show the great people of this board that Seth Appert is indeed "Our Great Coach" and feels his job has been done. I would like to thank AspyDad for his countless hours of hard work and thoughtful comments about our team and the great sport of college hockey. He may give a retirement post in the near future but for now he will just be another guy in the stands of Houston Field House doing what he does best.....enlightening the refs of the ECAC. Thank you.
Everyone else has people getting on a bandwagon when a team wins -- we have people jumping off.

A tearful goodbye to Aspy:(. I wonder what new name he will sign up under so he can still enlighten us with his wit and charm?;)

RB: You and I agree almost 99% of the time. This is a perfect example. The season is thankfully not over. Hopefully there is a long road ahead. This game is truly as important as any all season. Every single point is crucial (think what a difference a tie against both Union and QU earlier would have done to our PWR ranking). We are not playing to be second in the ECAC regular season-we are playing to be ECAC Champions in AC in a couple weeks. We are playing to just get into the NCAA tournament (which these boys deserve). And perhaps we are playing to get as far into that tournament as possible which makes it imperative to get the best seeding possible. You never know which number 1 seeds might get eliminated and allowing for a better match up after the first round. Strange things occur in NCAA hockey in March and April. This team is now playing with incredible chemistry, incredible confidence, and a rhythm that just has not been seen here for a long time. My feeling is you sacrifice nothing, you take nothing for granted, you keep stepping on the gas, and you do not take your foot off anyone's throat. (sorry for the cliches). But I truly believe, as i had before the season started, that this team is capable of 25+ wins and a tournament bid. Yes, i know it is Senior Night and i have all the confidence int he world with Bryce. I think he is an excellent goaltender (and have said so for years since he showed me an incredbile game down here in Princeton). But if we make any change-Goalie, Defense, Forwards (without having to due to injury) and we lose-it may be a very costly loss for the overall team and the season they could have had. Besides-if we win-there could be 5 or more games to come where Merriam could play if needed. I understand the importance of Senior Night-and if we were Quinnipiac with a lock on the 1st seed in the ECAC and probably in the NCAA tournament-I would be fully pushing to play every senior on the team and sit anyone else. But Ralph and KN and John have this exactly in focus. These boys deserve the best chance to win every game right now. No one can predict any outcome in any game-and we could get blown out tonight even if we played Jacques Plante in goal if we suffer a letdown from swamping CCT last night. But you do not ever want to look back and say what could have been. Just my usual 2¢ and i hope others understand.

BTW for those too young to know-Jacques Plante was the gold standard in goaltending for the Montreal Canadiens(who were the gold standard of all hockey teams) in my younger days.

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

Since I got to watch the entire game last night had to just add a few small thoughts. Anyone notice how bodies just seem to fly off of big #5 last night? If he hit someone, they went down, if someone hit him, they went down. If he got them up against the boards they just stopped cold and did not move the puck anywhere. When forwards were coming up ice with him or #3 on the ice-they had to give them room and skate wide and just got nowhere. I think Doc has something about defensemen being built like the Colossus of Rhodes. I am very small in stature and always felt size does not make a difference in life. But it sure seems to in sports and I am now beginning to believe that 6'5" stands in your way, it is a long way around! I normally do not watch the games on TV or the computer-I think hockey has to be seen in person to appreciate the entire picture. I just cannot follow th puck on a screen as well and in person you can appreciate the entire choreography of everything that goes on away from the puck. It truly is ballet-combined with a little mixed martial arts. I wish the boys the best for the rest of the season and hope to see them playing for as long as they can.

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

The first 2 periods last night were outstanding. The 3rd period seemed like both teams just wanted to get the game over. I "enjoyed" listening to the Clarkson Pep Band abuse the drum and just make loud noise, not music.

How will the tickets included in the season ticket package for ECAC Playoff games on March 8-10 be dealt with since we are not playing next weekend? I hope its just a case of switch the tickets at the box office or even just use these tickets we already have and we dont have to buy new tickets for the series.

I thought it was just the righ tto purchase for your seat, because playoff tickets cost more.

No, it was the actual ticket to the playoff series, if RPI didnt play at home like last year, they send you a refund for the cost of the playoff tickets. Which in all reality, I just put back into my season ticket fund for this years tickets.

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

Watching the game from the stands with my father and our friend (It was the first time since my uncle died 10 years ago that they have seen a game), the game wasn't as close as the score indicated. :p We were sitting in section 14, right beneath the band and had an excellent view of the game. RPI was flying on the ice, and had Clarkson on their heels all night long. The starting goalie for Clarkson let up so many rebounds that the RPI basketball team would hav had a field day. In fact, my dad made the comment that when RPI switches sides in the second, we won't get to see anyof the game because it will be down at the other end. Sure enough, he was right. I didn't see Zalewski's second goal because we were in line getting food, but the first one by him and Bubela were things of beauty. We were sitting in a row of Clarkson fans next to us and behind us and alot of them only wanted to do the chuck a puck contest. In fact, some of the students even joined in with the "One minute..." chant with the band :D Funny moment, there were a bunch of students dressed like Appert that wanted to get their picture taken with Dr. Jackson, and when they asked her and she agreed, they had forgotten to ask someone to take the pic. :D Typical RPI students. Teh Col. ended up taking the pic for them. RKarger, do you play the flute and were you talking with some Clarkson students in the middle of the third? If so, you were right in front of me. I remember saying that you have a sister that goes to Clarkson.

I'm sure that they will just honor the tickets that say March 8-10 for March 15-17. They say ECAC Game #1,2,3 on them already. There will probably be an announcement at tonight's game regarding this.

C.J. Lee's shirt could be the name for the next thread: RPI Hockey Part V: Our Journey, Our Way.
