RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

The guy's 6'9" and played in the AJHL. It's not like he's just some scrub.

I'm sure if he ever plays varsity, it won't be this year. If he played next year, he'd have four years of varsity time available to him.

Can you imagine if he is still growing? I would think the basketball team would have more interest in him(or even football). You just do not see many guys that big playing hockey.

You certainly don't see many with that size, but in certain situations such size could be most useful. As I wrote the first time that I brought up his name, I just wonder how good a skater he is. There are several videos of him, but I was not able to draw a positive conclusion. The fact is he did play a season in the AJHL and a part of a season in the EJHL, so he can't be a complete joke. Also his stats on the club team (and yes I realize it is a ACHA-III team) are quite good for a freshman defenseman.

Welcome BendyAnkles, we would certainly be interested in learning if he has any plans to try out for the varsity.

As Red Cloud and NYhockeyguy wrote, this year is out. There is no sense in trying to integrate someone new into the team at this point unless we have a rash of injuries. I am positive that SA is aware of his existence, not because I spoke to him, but because he must have seen the club team practice at some point, and conceivably he or one of the ACs had something to do with Sanford coming to RPI.

With no other changes (I know, that's not how it works) other than two RPI wins next weekend ... and RPI rises from 16 to 15.

But, two RPI wins coupled with a Cornell win at Yale rises RPI from 16 to get this ... 12.

Cornell currently just misses being a TUC. Cornell rising above the TUC threshold appears to help RPI immensely. Any crystal ball guesses as to what Cornell would minimally need to do in the ECAC playoffs?

Dare we say, Let's Go Other Red?

Does anyone know the broadcast plan/status of the ECAC semis and finals?

Tomorrow's Engineer Bracketology is going to touch on all of this. Even if RPI keeps winning, there's going to be a lot of gazing at the "TUC cliff" with not just Cornell, but also (and especially) Colgate and Brown. Stay tuned.

Actually I just looked that up before I came to this thread. The games will be televised on Fox college sports Directtv channel 608.
You will have to look up the channels on your particular service.

If we win Friday, any chance Seth plays Merriam sat night senior night......

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

Only if second place is clinched.

I would amend this to say if a bye is clinched. Merriam has been an important guy to our program and I don't see him not playing Saturday unless we're taking a chance on the bye. Second vs. Third place I would think tends to become an afterthought. This isn't the case of whether to give some minutes to the third string walk-on.

I don't know. Perhaps SA will be looking for an excuse to start Kasdorf, but whether or not we win on Friday, Saturday could be crucial in the PWR calculation.

That's a good point, one which I was not thinking of. I would really like to see Merriam get some time on Saturday though.

My immediate reaction is - not a chance. Given the power rankings and bye implications. But I've often been wrong on the goalie rotation ...and certainly would be ok if Bryce played -- he's been a stellar team mate and student athlete....a credit to the program, IMO.

If the game is "locked up", then maybe like our senior year, he'll put in Merriam and then have the seniors play the final minute. As you did say before, though, it's not like we'd be playing a walk-on. We would be playing a very capable backup who has logged some good time for the team, especially while Kasdorf was nursing his injury.

Up to 57 points in the USCHO poll but still just out of the Top 20. Union dropped out, but PC passed us.

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

I'm shocked we didn't lose points.

Almost nothing ever shocks me about that poll. i look at it as everyone else does-but truthfully it is meaningless. We have teams in our own league above us who we are ahead of and in one case beaten head to head twice. Let's just focus on this coming weekend with 2 teams that would love nothing more than to knock us off. There are no guarantees and certainly no pushovers in this league. But having home ice advantage should mean somethng for us-we have been one tough team to play at HFH for any ECAC team and we not all that unhealthy for these two games (although i would like to see Matt T back and a healthy Marty O'Grady along with one more defenseman if needed.
