RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

There may be some very valid reasons for it but i find it a bit difficult to figure out why we are just not one notch higher and in the top 20. There are some pretty odd votes for teams behind us that could stand some explanation. But this poll has been rather odd for years.
19th in USA Today Poll: http://www.uscho.com/rankings/usa-today-mens/

That seems more in line with where we should be and also means that perhaps a few voters think we are at least the 15th best team out there. My conclusion from the two polls is that those who have noticed are recognizing that this team is good. A lot of voters haven't noticed yet though and those voters are just checking the same boxes they check every week. Good! I hope the boys are noticing the limited respect and are ready to bring it at Lynah this weekend.

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

While I do think that there may be some favoritism shown by some voters, I do think that they just tend not to move any team that much from week to week. Thus -- inertia.
I think I would use the term dampening here. If it were inertia then those that start playing poorly would drop and keep dropping steadily without check once they start dropping. Instead, they move less than they should, often whether up or down.

That listing seems much more appropriate. In the scheme of things it really doesn't matter much. I remember back in 1984-85 when Sports Illustrated had a tiny lisitng in the back of each weekly issue about college hockey and had us below Michigan St week after week-even though we just never lost(Mich St was not doing much losing either) and kept on winning. It seemingly took a very long time before our unbeaten streak got us enough notice. Maybe if we just continue winning for the next 4-5 weekends it will turn some heads.;)

It's a multibody system with 59 bodies to take into account. :p Slightly more seriously, if a team keeps losing there is only so far they can drop (e.g., SHU), but if there were infinitely many teams and a team kept losing they would continue to drop.

JM, good observation, especially from an adherent of Keynesism Cornell scares me. They hate us and they will be looking for pay back from our late season victory that denied them regular season title.

19th is that different from 21st? Also since USA Today votes thye Top 15 instead of Top 20 as in the USCHO, the placings become less precise earlier.

On the other hand.... as Warren Buffet might say... it helps keep out the riff raff.

Absolutely-i like 19th much better than 21st. While i do not think we are in any way deserving of a top 15 ranking-I also do not feel we should be left out of the top 20. Moot point, and perhaps only important to me. But i feel our boys should be rewarded for what they are achieving-even if it is just 2 numbers up the scale. While we are at it-explain to me why some teams listed who are so far down the list (10th place) in the ECAC even get one vote.? I can guarantee you that if we were tied for tenth place in the ECAC we wouldn't get even a cursory glance.

... since his Wikipedia says that the Red Wings brought him up from broadcasting their minor league team. ....
That team of course being the Glens Falls Red Wings...founded by the late great Ned Harkness....6 degrees of RPI Hockey...

Give Jacob props for changing his game from Juniors where he was a scorer. He is a great passer. JL has uncanny knack of putting the puck on the tape of the trailer or cross ice open player. #29 has also changed game on PP by playing down low. He has been playing in the trenches and has paid off big time.
Appert credited Coach Graham for righting the PP ship and moving Bailen down low on the PP...which I also mentioned here earlier this year...just saying' :p:D

Actually known as the Adirondack Red Wings, you were close. 4 time AHL champions and during their second championship in 1986 were led by Adam Oates and Tim Friday.

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

Mr Russinko, Thank you for your informative response. I have never been to Messa so I cannot comment. I saw the exit doors beneath me, what I was more concerned about was the three sections funneling down to that portal, there were also five or six folks sitting on the steps as well. Pie meal alterations are always going to be tough to police code wise. I. Did notice what looked to be newer strobes up high in the arena, which may help to alert the public. Any significant fire under or in the bleachers, especially near the front of that building will be a nightmare. The Institute got away with a lot just by claiming to be an existing structure, but it doesn't mean it is the right thing to do. Best regards, Dave Collins
They didnt " get away " with anything. If you FOILed the building permit, I'm sure the City would be happy to show you the approved, stamped plans signed by the City Codes and one of your brethren in the Fire Protection community. Old buildings are what they are. The fact is, HFH has had several renovations in its history. The areas that should be sprinklered per today's Code are sprinklered. As GRuss correctly pointed out, off the top of my head Messa Rink, Appleton AND Starr Rink are far bigger nightmares from an egress perspective . As a fire inspector, I urge you to tell us how any of THOSE rinks ever pass a fire inspection...wood trusses, wood roof decking, wood bleachers, and horrific egress.

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

The PK is a little skewed; all three of those were against SLU. Either they have a kickass power play and the others aren't so good, or we just had an off night.
SLUt PP is led by Greg Carey 23-22-45.....leads nation in points ....shoe-in Hobey finalist...3 goals vs. Q & P this weekend.

I'm catching up after being away for the weekend. Were there any updates on TinMan's injury ??
