RPI Athletics' video has a little more than Earl has, mainly an interview from CJ:

Game would have had a totally different flavor with Kotyra on the ice last night. More penalties called and especially when things were starting to build in our favor. he has some sort of knack for killing any momentum we develop and calling penalties early in the period on us to put us on our heels quickly. Beginning to feel he is the reincarnation of Mike Noeth.
apparently they weren't too pleased w/Kotyra up at Starr Rink either. Personally, I think McDonald has edged them all in becoming the worst ECAC ref. His phantom calls, followed by his make-up calls, followed by no calls, seems to always lead to "his" games getting out of hand, turning into a shoving match & the eventual parade to the penalty box.

Well, we get McD tonight, so one way or the other, we're going to prove your theory. Zebras did a nice job at HFH last night. I think I read in the write up that Q forward Travis St. Denis got a game DQ last night, I believe he will be in the stands tonight.

I dunno, but Chip McDonald hasn't been all that bad. If you want a ref whose games get out of hand, look no further than Hicks.

Got back a little while ago-saw the end of the game tonight. I have been saying the same thing for years and will only mention it briefly-we win or lose on the power play in college hockey. Whatever is wrong with our special teams-and there is most definitely something wrong-has been wrong for some time. Regardless of what players are on the ice. Pure and simple-this is a coaching issue. Special teams cannot be your downfall for this many years without that being the case. We got creamed at Union because of them and we lost tonight because of it. Correct that, and we have a very good team that should win many more games. Our power play has been pathetic (and was even wrose than pathetic tonight).

I take back what I said, because pathetic is a compliment. It's been beyond pathetic.

Just got home from watching the game. Absolutely NOBODY attacked the net on any of the power plays. All they did was pass it from side to side and when they did shoot it, it was blocked. All I know is that our opponents scored more on our power play then we did this weekend. Disgusting.

Embarrassed. There's getting beat and then there's losing. Union got beat last night. We lost. I'll let you guys decide which is better.

Lally should have broken Peca's legs (or at least tripped him up).

The best you get out of a situation like that is a penalty shot against you. If he does that and the puck goes in, not only is it a goal, but you're down to 4 on 3, and Q-Pac gets a PP. No way do they take the 4 on 3.

If he mugs him, it's probably not going in. But that's the least of the problems. The turnover could be seen coming from a mile away.

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part II: You Better Starting Posting the Engineer Way

My take on the weekend. We played better these 2 nights then in the past. Love Kasdorf in goal. Sorry to Merriam and Diebold but think this kid is the real deal. Should he have stopped the 1 goal to night? Yes, if he actually saw it. He may have been screened like last nights 1st goal. On the break away one could think he should have made the save but I am sure he was nervous with the game being on the line and not expecting his teammates to put him in that position when on a 5-3 PP. He made one hell of a pad save just before Zalewski's goal that I though was a game changer. The shorty I thought that was pretty much one of our only down points all weekend. Like someone else said you could see it coming from a mile a way or something like that. I must admit I am getting sick of the Nick Bailen show as I will call it. Is this what Seth means by Engineer hockey? Can anyone else on the team take a shot in important situations? Guy has one of, if not the best, slap shot on the team, why are we not setting him up on the point to take it and if it does not go in be in front to try and score on the rebound if there is one? I have heard he might have been clocked at over 100/mph so why not use that to our advantage? Hope we play like this next weekend and if so we can possibly see 4pts from our efforts which would be nice.

I am sure Babo might get mad at me for this one and some others but if you watched the game last night then I would consider it public knowledge, I really hope #14 is not our long for us. I thought his play has been very good and will be missed if he is. Also hope some of the others I saw this weekend get banged up recover this week quickly though they did not miss games we all know they are sore while playing. Again if you actually watched or listened to these games then as far as I am concerned it is public knowledge who I am speaking about but please take note besides #14 I have not named specifics if you choose to scold me.

Final note, glad to hear Troy Boy is doing well and our thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family!! Hope they do not mind me mentioning this on here.

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part II: You Better Starting Posting the Engineer Way

So anyone think Bailen sits for not hustling for the puck on the empty netter.......yeah didnt think so. The past two years he has tried to do way to much and be the go to guy and it ends up hurting the team. Just my opinion so take it for what you will. The goal by Zalewski was all thanks to the footwork and Bubela. Those two are going to drive teams crazy the next couple years.

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part II: You Better Starting Posting the Engineer Way

The men gave up a short-handed goal on a 5 on 3, and the women gave up two shorthanded goals on the same powerplay. I think I know something that should be worked on this week at the HFH.

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part II: You Better Starting Posting the Engineer Way

We spend a lot of time on this board complaining about the referees. And rightfully so, but last night, they handed us a hockey game and we turned around and gave it to the Bobcats.
It is frustrating to play against one of the best teams in the league even or maybe even better 5 on 5 only to throw it away on special teams.
I am encouraged by our compete level and discipline at even strength, now lets carry that over to the PP and PK.
I saw a lot of positives this weekend, unfortunately, they were all erased with one play that should have never happened.
I hope we do not let that play affect the good things that we have been doing lately.

The officiating was terrible in the first two periods, but the third period was slightly better. That made things even more annoying - we fought through stupidity in the first 40 minutes and were still tied, and then that element is removed and suddenly we're busy shooting ourselves in the foot.

Frequently I am frustrated with the fans who shout "SHOOT! SHOOT!" incessantly during the power play, because most of the time they're yelling it, it's during a point where a shot would be foolish, but over the long-haul they have a very salient point. Only five shots on eight power plays, including a 5x3 for two minutes? It's not like Quinnipiac were blocking shots left and right, either.

Gird your loins.

This is why if I yell anything, it's "work the good shot". If there's a forward blocking, of course there's no reason to shoot when it'll just get blocked, but when you have an opening, for gosh sakes TAKE IT! Also, I do wonder how many "shot attempts" we had that were not counted as shots, whether they be blocks or we completely missed the net. Call it my know-how for soccer stats if you must, since they keep track of shots off target, but I think it's important, especially considering the version of the pathetic power play I've seen in the last two years.
