I may be wrong but I believe in the past, the goalie on the left starts.

This isn't really true. If there actually is a starter chosen, he'll have an asterisk next to his name. That said, I seem to have a lot more faith in Bryce than most of the people on this board. The only issue I see is that he's got a pretty terrible record in home games against Princeton (8 GA in about 80 minutes).

Took a look back and you're definitely correct on that. I wonder who they're going with.

My gut tells me Merriam goes tonight, but the lack of the asterisk seems to indicate that Seth was hedging too. May be a gametime decision for him also.

When one of those was a 7-0 shellacking (of which he saw 5 of those)...

Bryce wouldn't scare me so much if he'd stay in that part of the ice where the colour is light blue. He likes to wander out and play pucks.

True-but we were witness to his game with Princeton down here a couple years ago. And he had a highlight reel first period and single handedly kept us in the game.

Outplayed Princeton, Outshot Princeton, and in some cases Outworked Princeton, end up with a tie.... Credit to the goalie from Princeton who kept his team in the game...The NHL line was flying all night long, I loved the Tinordi line as well. Easily could have been a 4-2 or 5-2 game for RPI. Gotta bring that same hard work and find the net when given chances tonight vs. QU. Gonna be a rough go of things against a scary good team.

You get the feeling that, after the second, when you're peppering them with shots and the goalie saves everything and the kitchen sink, you're probably not going to win that game. I'm shocked we pulled a tie on that one.

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part II: You Better Starting Posting the Engineer Way

I just wanted to comment on something I saw watching the game on line last night.
There were a handful of times when we had a Princeton player lined up and just rode him out of the play instead of taking him hard into the boards. Even Curadi didn't take advantage of a situation to lay a player out.
I think that the team has finally figured the referees out. (at least for last nights game). They were very disciplined and stayed out of the box for the most part.
We need that kind of effort the rest of the way. JMO

Agree with your assessment. P keepers was tough to solve. Credit to our guys for battling all night...**** near buried the winner in OT.

Random thoughts: NHL line is very fun to watch. OVerall, we still struggle to generate enough traffic in front of the net. We are a different team when Tinordi and Lee are banging down low...their goal was a direct result of a turnover down low on the forecheck The forecheck was all but absent in the 1st, but much improved in 2nd and 3rd....we need to keep going that to have success...its an attitude/effort thing, IMO. Also, the Bubela/Zalewski combo is gonna pay dividends...just a matter of time. Z still learning to use his size, needs to inflict his will more on defenders and go to hole...HARD...but it will come. Schroeder's end to end rush late was nice -- split the D and took it right to the hole knowing he'd pay a price-- **** near buried it. Seth should play that clip for all forwards to memorize.

Clears and neutral zone turnovers still an issue. Bailen's toe pick pseudo-spin move in open ice needs to be retired - permanently. Dolan played well and had several strong accurate shots from the point. His release is every bit as good as Bailen's. Curadi played well, in control and didn't hesitate to carry the puck up ice a few times when P gave him real estate. LeBeef needs a quicker release...get the puck to the net...he gives D/keeper too much time to react.

My first glimpse of Kasdorf -- liked him -- would like to see him again tonite (I'm sure I just jinxed him). Quick for his size, excellent rebound control. 1st goal -- screen from blueline -- never saw it.

Very true. I had mentioned on the QU scores thread that we just did not seem to be hitting hard last night. Perhaps good-I still like to see one or two good shots taken to keep ateam skating with their heads up and eyes looking around. Luke has been extremely disciplined and seems to be getting better all the time. QU presents a differnet kind of team though. Princeton is a much bigger team and QU is faster. We will have to adjust before this one starts and perhaps even during the game to a different style. There is no getting around it though-the ECAC has become much tougher than in recent years.

Agree completely EHF. I thought it was a fun game to watch, and the refs let them play. Well officiated overall, IMO. Hope we can get a repeat tonite.

I think we used restraint Doc. There we several strong hits by RPI -- but no dumbs ones -- a distinction we have struggled with in the past, as you know. I did think there were a couple of instances in front of our net where we needed to show force, but didn't. Otherwise, i think our guys played hard, but smart.

Agree-absolutely no chance on that goal unless it would have hit him in the chest. He just plain never saw it. Cudos to RPI TV-i had the game up on our 65" TV and it was just plain incredible (a couple of freezes and had to reboot once or twice). Like all the lines you mentioned. NHL does a lot of things well. Tinordi just does not take a step backwards and rarely knocked off his skates. Princeton is a strong forecheck team and they did hem us in a few times but felt we dealt with it for the most part (despite a couple of give aways). Every ECAC game though is a str4uggle and tonight will be especially difficult. Need to get off to a good start not just in the first period, but in each of the 3 periods. Seems the first 5 minutes of each period is so key for us. Go Red!

O'Brien and St. Lawrence are two of the better refs in the league, IMO, and I'm not saying that from a standpoint of tonight's game, but rather their career as I have witnessed. They're just, consistent, and stay in control of the game.

Game would have had a totally different flavor with Kotyra on the ice last night. More penalties called and especially when things were starting to build in our favor. he has some sort of knack for killing any momentum we develop and calling penalties early in the period on us to put us on our heels quickly. Beginning to feel he is the reincarnation of Mike Noeth.
