Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part 1: Pocket Protectors and Hockey Sticks

Prove what? that we are ranked as low as 33rd in Division I or that we ranked as highly as 5th in the ECAC? Playing Ferris State really should not affect the second part.

In order to receive votes, at least one voter must believe you are in the top 20. As many as 5 voters believe as such. We need to prove to the other voters that that ranking is deserved.

I figure that unless we have a wonderful showing or a completely miserable showing this weekend-we will still be thought of as pretty much the same by the 5 voters. I really don't put much stock into these polls until most teams have about 5 or more games under their belt. I of course think we should be placed higher than 33rd but for now am pretty happy being the 5th highest ranked ECAC team.

Of course the combination of us being 5th in the ECAC and 33rd in the NCAA shows that there is not much respect for the league. A team in the top of the league is in the bottom half of the NCAA more or less implies that.

No question about that. I suspect that only the top couple of ECAC teams garner any interest from the other leagues.

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part 1: Pocket Protectors and Hockey Sticks

I have a feeling posing for a picture with Yakupov and the BioSteel fiolks didn't help matters. I suspect that if he isnt already, the young lad will soon be on a plane to Kelowna.
I agree that this is the sticking point. He more than posed with the above folks, he was holding their product thus it's being perceived as an endorsement, a clear no no. Although, it has been pointed out, unless you can show he was compensated for it how is it different than holding, say a bottle of Gatorade & someone snaps your picture any different?

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part 1: Pocket Protectors and Hockey Sticks

We ended up having more than that later in the game - I can't remember exactly, but it was closer to 150.

Overall, how did the stream go? Did anyone have any buffering issues or general playback problems? I am still working on getting the automatic bitrate switching for live streams working, which should improve the experience quite a bit.

I wasn't able to watch the live stream. I waited for the game to appear in the archives. I just watched it tonight. The production quality is amazing. You guys are making a great product. I'd pay $80 for a season pass what you're providing.

I have a problem with the bitrate though. I'm on the west coast on cable broadband. The playback constantly chokes and stutters, unless I wait until 11 PM or later to watch.

One great improvement is that the playlist is now hidden. I used to have to jump through hoops to try and avoid seeing whether there was an overtime period on the playlist.

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part 1: Pocket Protectors and Hockey Sticks

I am having some issues with the links above the playback (playlist, donate, feedback, more) don't seem to be doing anything. I am using Firefox 15.0.1 for Linux Mint 13.

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part 1: Pocket Protectors and Hockey Sticks

OK, saw the diving play in question from earlier again, and there was a little bit of a delay in Haggerty going down; it did not look as a result of the cross-check itself. I will agree that it was Haggerty, despite Bailen being given the PIMs in the box score (I guess 29 and 39 are that tough to discern). Looking at it again (timestamp in the video at about 7:15 of the third period, the penalty occurred at 4:48 in game time), I am going to say that the refs made a good call on that one. Sure, Acadia was rough, but that's no reason to make a move you'd expect from the "Skating Mother Teresas" to the south and slightly west of me. (quotation attributed to Without a Peer in almost any post tagged as Cornell) The only thing I ask is that this year, this remains consistent across all teams.

I'm on the West Coast too. Are you on Time Warner?

I enjoyed the Ferris fans last year during the regional (didn't like the result)and the Frozen Four. Cheered for the Bulldogs at the Frozen Four. Was a great season for them. Engineers are not playing cupcakes this weekend.

I don't think anyone here does... I think most of are excited to see how a more mature, experienced RPI team measures up.

Agreed. Hopefully it isn't FSU who is playing the cupcakes. (Is anyone bringing any cupcakes to the tailgate? ;) )

Indivudual baked goods yes, not quite cupcakes though. :)

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part 1: Pocket Protectors and Hockey Sticks

I am cross posting this which I put in the off season thread-hope it is helpful for some.
For those who might be interested-The tickets for RPI/Princeton at Baker Rink 1/12/13 went on sale this morning at midnight. I do not expect there to be any problems getting tickets at all. The support for Princeton hockey is at best mediocre even when they are a contending team and this year with most predicting them to finish rather low in the standings, it is doubtful that the rink will fill up for anything other than perhaps Harvard and Cornell. We have been to virtually every game there involving RPI for 37 years and most years RPI fans outnumber the locals. For those interested-go here- http://www.goprincetontigers.com/Vie...&ATCLID=652804 A word of advice-try not to get tickets in the upper deck behind the goal. The Princeton band is there most games and can be quite annoying. And dress incredibly warm. It is often colder in the rink than outside and this game is in the heart of winter.

I have been considering going to this, especially considering this is one of the two rinks I have not visited (Thompson being the other). It's a Saturday; this might be doable. Are there any alumni events prior to the game?

I haven't checked yet and the alumni club of NJ has not sent anything to us as yet. Just remember that traffic around the Princeton corrider is beyond description. We are fortunate-my daughter lives a few minutes from the rink. I would guess the drive down for you would be somewhere in the 250 mile range and about 4 1/2 hours without taking into consideration traffic. Don't forget-this is scheduled as an afternoon 4PM start.

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part 1: Pocket Protectors and Hockey Sticks

I really should go to the PU game some year considering that it is the closest that RPI gets to DC, at least until Navy starts a program which may never happen. My excuse this year is that I don't want to miss another German class.

German class? I hope you aren't intending to invade someplace.:p
