Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part 1: Pocket Protectors and Hockey Sticks

I too hope this is just transient symptoms that clear rapidly. The nature of the hit is only slightly related to the extent of injury in these concussive symptom cases. Some people seem particularly prone while others can sustain a major hit and skate away unscathed. Often though you can estimate the severity by the symptoms that occur immediately after the hit. I was not able to see or even hear anything this past weekend due to the storm down here in NJ so i have no clue what happened. Was there any period of unconsciousness? Did he have to leave the ice? Did he return to play? Also important is the time period between the injury and the development of any symptoms. Serious consequences can follow an almost innocuous injury. Most here have read or heard about the unfortunate development for the actress Natasha Richardson. SA is doing th eabsolute correct thing-you take no chances. As far as we have come in medicine-with MRIs, CT Scans, and other testing-we probably know less about concussions than most other injuries. Let's all hope we have JL back soon-he has begun to show the talent he has and we need him on this team.

This is the first I'm hearing of the injury...I don't think anyone noticed a particularly hard hit on Laliberte at any point in the game. Granted, everyone was getting hit pretty hard at the end, but there was definitely no standout hit, he wasn't down on the ice for a lengthy period of time or anything. I lost track of who had how many shifts when as well, but didn't particularly note his absence, so this may be something that showed up the next day or occurred near the end of the game.

Used to be a place called Fire and Ice in Harvard Square. It's a huge hibachi style place. They give you a bowl and you fill it with what you want, all different types of meat, seafood, veggies, etc, then they cook it for you. Cool place.. Have fruit infused vodka too.

It's still there. My kids love it.

Regarding the discussion of reporting player injuries (I don't have the time, nor the technical ability, to respond to all of them with multiple 'reply to quote'). FD - I did not accuse rvd of being wrong; go back and read what I DID say...the operative word is "probably". Next, whoever said any time you go on the ice it's a risk...I think everyone knows that (the point is not to paint certain players, whether on your team or not, with a laser). And whoever made the statement about coaches not reading all of the posts? It's not the coaches who spread rumors on the internet...it's posters. Lastly, FD, please produce evidence that any player on the team has discussed his, or another player's, injury in tweets, on fb or elsewhere. No way. That would not be tolerated. The players do not discuss internals. So if you have access to internal information that is not intended for public consumption and you leak/share/spill/blurt it, you're wrong. Period. If you don't have access to internal information and you post what you think you know? I leave that description to a 'fill in the blank'. But here's the crux of the matter: at certain times, a player will play hurt (at some point they ALL do). When a player is truly injured and has difficulty performing, the coaches will share the information as part of the line up discussion. If it isn't shared with the public by the coaching staff, what purpose does it serve for a poster to share it?

Unbelievably, my son has a hockey game at the same time as the Harvard game this weekend so I'm going to miss this game for the first time in a while.

I'm not sure what "bubble" tea is but I wonder if the "bubble" is an infuser? For those of you looking for food in Harvard Square, let me suggest John Harvards: https://www.johnharvards.com/ If anyone with a car gets in early enough, I can recommend a few other spots that are in the area. Among my favorites are: Redbones in Davis Square, The Miracle of Science in Central Square, The Cambridge Brewery in Kendall Square and The Sunset Grill & Tap in Allston (which is actually the part of Boston that Harvard's rink is in). The first 3 are all in easy walking distance from T stations on the red line (which runs west to east in the following order: Davis Square - Porter Square - Harvard Square - Central Square - Kendall Square). The Sunset Grill is about a 5 minute drive from the arena (but about an hour by the T).

All 5 places are great watering holes with great food.

The "bubbles" in bubble tea are tapioca pearls. You would drink bubble tea with a large straw where the pearls would fit.

Bubble tea is a sweet tea concoction with large tapioca 'bubbles' at the bottom that you end up scuking into your mouth through an over sized straw. Came to the states about 10 years ago but never really caught on. Kinda' gross...

You're asking the wrong person for evidence. I'm not the one who provided the information. I'm simply giving possibilities. For all we know, one of his wife's friends could go to after-game "events".

Thanks for explaining that. I think I'll stick with beer, or "cold tea" as it was known in Chinatown back in the day.

Tapioca is gross by itself. :)

Actually, it has become so popular, although it might be safer to say it has developed such a cult following, that in Germany, you can order a McBubbleTea. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/11/mcdonalds-bubble-tea-germany_n_1587833.html

Stop assuming that a generic question is directed at you. I specifically responded to things you said to me and laid the rest out to the group. But I am still waiting for the evidence that our players have discussed injuries online (you're quick responding to everything but direct inquiries).

Now I see why this conversation is relevant... I've just learned that in Slovakia "bubble milk" tea is known as Milos Bubela.
Thank you. That was much needed after tedious interaction with those absorbed in the 'bubble' skin of self absorption...

Then why did you call me out on that specific phrase? "Lastly, FD, please produce evidence that any player on the team has discussed his, or another player's, injury in tweets, on fb or elsewhere."

3 goalies is confusing Engineer fans more than bubble tea and that Red Hawk logo combined

Appert termed it a mild concussion...Docs want to get it right the first time so that it hopefully clears and has no lingering impact.

This does not sound appetizing to me at all. how well does it mix with Chopin or Ultimat Vodka?:) If not i think tonight I will just sip some Harvey's Bristol Cream Sherry and relax by the fire. (Years ago they marketed a Bristol Milk that i liked a bit more but this will do just fine)
