RPI Engineers '15-'16

Re: RPI Engineers '15-'16

I will always remember freshman orientation, when our entire class went up to the Field House and were welcomed by the president of the (ahem) Institute, Richard Folsom.

Dr. Folsom began, "I'd like to welcome you all to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute!"

He continued, "Actually, I wouldn't. We've always sort of wished we could change that name, because, over the years, we have found that:
Few people know how to spell "Rensselaer;"
Fewer yet know what "Polytechnic" means;
And who in the hell wants to go to an "Institute?"

Nope - she played at Vermont and coached at Hamilton - she is used to losing....

Hey, HockeyEast33, you're obviously one of those quickwitted keyboard commandos who can throw around insults from the safety of your couch while others are out accomplishing things. last I checked, Melanie Greene played 4 years of D-1 hockey, and spent 1 year coaching DIII hockey before moving up to coaching D-1 hockey at RPI and eventually moving on to accept a position as Dean of Students at a private school. All by her late 20's. PLEASE enlighten us to YOUR accomplishments in hockey so that we may all understand your expertise in judging other's careers so cavalierly.......

Will be in the area on the Sept 1st and 2nd recommended places to stay, eat and see?

If you are looking for nearness to the campus, the only place is the Hilton Gardens Inn on Hoosick Street in Troy. If you are looking for some place cheaper, there are many places in Latham and near the Albany airport. As to sites there isn't much to see besides for the RPI campus. There is Uncle Sam's grave in Oakwood cemetery. Hopefully some locals can add especially about restaurants,

Wow you're responding to a post that's over a month old that nobody else really bothered to respond to. You must have too much time on your hands and looking for a forum fight. You're obviously neither quick nor witted.

Original comment made that she might have left because of RPI losing so much (or something to that effect). While at UVM her teams were a combined 28-99-2 and at Hamilton the team was 10-14-2 the year she was there. These are facts, not speculation. She is clearly not driven away from teams because they lose. That was the comment - not that she was a loser, which she clearly is not.

It would appear that you are one of those quick-witted keyboard commandos who trys to one-up other posters from the safety of their couch and responds emotionally without regard for facts. I don't feel the need to review my accomplishments for your benefit.

There's also a Best Western in downtown Troy. I have no idea if it's nice at all, but it's there.

Not so interested in the sight seeing, more about places with good food, fun atmosphere etc Usually fun to catch the flavor of a college town. All the hotel prices are up as it must be time for students to be coming back.

Wondering why they have not announced the new Asst Coach? I got it on pretty good terms the hire was done.

The Best Western became an RPI dorm a few years ago. Wasn't that before you left? (It was at the foot of the approach, more or less).

I am going to post on the RPI men's thread asking for people to try to answer your question. Most RPI fans don't come here regularly.

As Ralph previously mentioned, there is the Hilton Garden Inn on Hoosick Street, right down the block from campus. Downtown, the Best Western that lugnut was talking about is now a dorm for the students, but I believe he was talking about the hotel that was formerly a Super 8, located right across from Dinosaur BBQ. It was taken over by local hotelier and restaurateur Michael Cocca, who is the operator of the Franklin Plaza, etc. In fact, the hotel is called the Franklin Square Suites. Only have been inside there once, but it's nice. As far as eateries, it depends n what you are looking for. If you stay at the Hilton, there is a sports bar right attached. There is also the aforementioned Dinosaur BBQ, and there is a Bombers Burrito Bar and a bunch of restaurants/bars on the King Street/River Street corridor. Brown's Brew Pub is a great place. Troy is a city with beautiful architecture and history. As Ralph said, you have Uncle Sam's gravesite in Oakwood Cemetery, the RPI Campus, and just a short drive north in Lansingburgh you have Herman Melville's home where he wrote his first two novels, a monument to all of the baseball Hall of Famers that are from Troy (also, where the San Francisco Giants started out. They were known as the Troy Haymakers and were one of two teams in the original National League, along with a team from Worcester. After two years, they moved to NY and became the Giants, because of the tall Troy players.) The Baseball Hall of Fame leaves this history out when talking about the SF Giants. If you can catch a game, go see the Tri-City Valleycats, class A affiliate of the Houston Astros. They are home September 1 against the Brooklyn Cyclones (Class A-NY Mets) You'll enjoy the trip to Troy, and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. WElcome and have fun.

Yes, Blitman became a dorm while I was at RPI (maybe actually before my Freshman year). I thought that hotel jericho mentioned was a Best Western as well, but I guess I was mistaken.

Hockeyeast33, since I am FAR from a keyboard commando (160 posts in 10 years), I will attempt to take the high road here and say that if you genuinely meant no malice by your post, I will sincerely apologize for my comments. But I suspect that your comment WAS meant to be provocative, judging by the wording you used and the "LOL" it elicited from another poster. If that wasn't your intent, you may want to think about how you word your posts.....

Shelfit, if you must know, I rarely get on these forums, mostly because of this kind of negative posting.....with that said, when I DO see another post that anonymously makes yet another snide comment toward someone that they don't know, sometimes I call them out on it. That's only fair, and trust me, I don't do "internet fights"......they are pathetic. If I want to fight, I'll "drop the gloves" the old fashioned way......

One of them used to be :D

Apparently not rarely enough.

Oooh, a tough guy. What a joke you are. Dry up and blow away.
