RPI Engineers '15-'16

It's for 2017.

Re: RPI Engineers '15-'16

Oh, that tweet reminds me. Quinnipiac's PA guy announced Saturday's game as between the Quinnipiac Bobcats and the Rensselaer University Engineers. I may have loudly called him a dumbass.

Huh? Ms. Severson got it correct.

BTW, I won't have time to dig up much on her and add it to the list until tomorrow. She has been to Nationals. Also among the people congratulating her on her tweet page https://twitter.com/seviewonder17?ref_src=twsrc^tfw is 2016 commit Megan Hayes.

Katie Daniels may have influenced her choice?....... http://www.rrstar.com/article/20100126/NEWS/301269836

Two other possibilities are 2016 recruit Megan Hayes and 2017 recruit Morgan Ondrick who congratulated her.

The linked article states that she was also named the All-Rookie Team goalie.

Re: RPI Engineers '15-'16

Senior Lauren Wash '16 sat down with three members of the men's and women's ice hockey team at RPI (Liljegren, Ohrvall, Selander) and asked them about their experiences as they transitioned from Swedish hockey to Division 1 college hockey in the United States. The video was directed and edited by Wash and produced by RPI Athletics. http://www.rpiathletics.com/news/2016/3/9/mens-hockey-blue-and-gold-to-cherry-and-white.aspx

Edit: Lauren Wash is a Communications major, so this was probably for a course.

Great job, Lauren Wash! Very interesting interviews with the 3 Swedes (who happen to be 3 of my favorite RPI players). Also interesting to see the interviews with the two coaches who are SO different! With Seth Appert all you need to do is put a mic in front of him and you have a few hours of material ;), but this is the first interview I have seen with Burke in a long time. It was quite a recruiting coup for him to land Selander and I would have liked to hear more detail about how that came about because that is his biggest challenge: finding national team calibre players who want to play for a middle-of-the-pack team. Academics have to play a big part in it and RPI has so much to offer there. But we need to establish a bigger recruiting presence in Canada and/or Minnesota. Not many D1 womens teams have had success without a pipeline into one or the other. I know that Burke and his assistants make trips to Canada (even all the way out here in Western Canada) but it hasn't generated a lot of results in recent years.

Re: RPI Engineers '15-'16

Time to start a new thread looking forward to next year. But first, a few brief comments on 2015-2016. The Engineers delivered a very entertaining brand of hockey and met my objective for the year (making the playoffs) and came close to exceeding my expectations by giving Quinnipiac a real scare. Three things stand out for me:
1) Selander...what a recruiting coup in getting her, and really look forward to seeing what she can do over the next 3 years;
2) team spirit and competitiveness...something really changed this year in terms of this team's ability to dig deep and come up with the key plays late in the game. It just looked like this was a team that expected to win and had fun in the process.
3) Development: several players seemed to take big steps forward this year and that bodes well for the future. The seniors were great, but also impressed with Rooney, Horwood (when healthy), Behounek, to name just three.
