RPI Engineers '15-'16

Re: RPI Engineers '15-'16

Because Burke doesn't have a clue how to coach. Look at his record the last 5 years. Hopefully the new AD can see that this guy needs to go. There is no reason why this school can't hire a coach that is of the RPI men's team caliber.

Shelfit, a new name does not mean that your simplistic views will carry more weight. I would venture to say that there may be nobody who has followed this program more closely than I have, over the years that John Burke has been head coach, and I am prepared to be supportive or critical as warranted by the evidence. Recruiting has not been an enormous success here: we always get very talented and dedicated women but never get the players that are on the US and Cdn U-18 teams that make a big difference at other programs (e.g. Cornell for a few years). But I have watched players develop at RPI and am convinced that the coaching staff does a good job there. There may be no better demonstration of that than what we are seeing from this year's junior class. I was very concerned about how we were going to replace the talented seniors that will be graduating this year, but now that I see the great strides that the juniors have made this year in terms of their fitness, puck skills and games sense, I can't wait to see what they will do next year. Much of that has to do with their personal dedication during the season and the off-season, but if you fail to consider that the coaches are contributing to that as well you are just being wilfully blind.

There have been the same complaints over the year about the current men's coach. Actually the teams seem similar -- their mediocre offenses are being bailed out by superior goaltending.

Why did you open a new account, shelfit?

I can assure you I did not open a new account. The ecac guru guy is definitely not me so don't lump me in with that knucklehead. If you look at any of my more recent posts they have been much more positive than this guy's new attack against Coach Burke. Going back to when they made a few lineup changes last semester that I agreed with and felt were very necessary I've been much more complimentary. There's something way too personal in how this guy is taking a stance against Coach Burke. My best guess is this guy is a parent of a current player that probably isn't getting too much icetime and his patience has run out so now he's attacking the coach directly. I've been very busy at work lately and haven't been able to follow the team as closely so you guys tell me who is getting the least amount of playing time and I'm willing to bet ecac guru is that player's dumb*ss father.

Besides, I'm not just an expert on one conference. I'm an expert on them all. Lol. ;)

Bingo Ralph. I was thinking the same thing.

For those interested in today's game, Colgate at RPI, there appears to be a mistake on the USCHO schedule which shows the game as being at 3pm ET. All other information (RPI women's hockey website, www.collegehockeystats.net) show it as a 7 pm ET start.

Perry Laskaris just tweeted that he'd have the call on RPI TV at 7, so unless he's gone nuts and is going to give the play-by-play of an empty rink, USCHO is just wrong.

Re: RPI Engineers '15-'16

Two very strong games this weekend for the Engineers and a key win over Cornell in overtime today. Still a tough 3 weekends ahead but the team looks ready for it.

Re: RPI Engineers '15-'16

Three full weekends left in the regular season, and RPI sits in a playoff spot. They did a good job to improve their chances by sewing up the tie-breaker with Cornell. All that said, they have a very tough road ahead of them as they head to the North Country next weekend. RPI probably needs to come out with a split to keep hopes alive.

Re: RPI Engineers '15-'16

Jose Bautista had his famous 'bat throw'. Lauren Wash's 'stick throw' ;) is from 0:57-1:06 on this tape.

All three goals were very nice offensive plays off bad defensive giveaways.

The Cornell player passes the puck to herself using the butt end of her stick (she had just picked it up off of the ice) and turns it around quickly before she deked passed RPI's goalie.

That was amazing (Taylor Woods)! I hadn't noticed the butt end pass when I saw it live.

The overtime goal is 0:54 to 1:06 on this tape. Jose Bautista had his famous 'bat flip' (http://bautistasbatflip.com) . Lauren Wash's 'stick flip' ;) is at 1:06. Katie Rooney continues her hot hand with two more goals.

Well, a couple of observations from watching RPI for several years:
1. We played "only" two very energized lines in OT to beat Cornell.
2. The coaches really played to win vs playing 4 lines.
3. ECAC is so competitive we just need to do that......
4. The new coaching staff is now very complimentary in skills, approaches and backgrounds ... How EXCITING!
5. Time for our girls to be a "disruptor"....
6. You never know what RPI is going to do you ... I kinda like that!!!
7. Sit back and watch..

Also Lovisa Selander was nominated for both GotM and RotM.

Re: RPI Engineers '15-'16

One point turned out to be enough to bump our chances a bit (though that was mostly because Cornell got swept). No rest awaits us, as we host Harvard and Dartmouth this weekend. Dartmouth represents a pair of points we pretty much have to win, as Cornell will almost definitely pull at least two points this weekend as they travel to Yale and Brown. If we could somehow force a result with Harvard, that'd be just peachy. A sweep (however unlikely) wouldn't quite clinch a playoff spot, as our magic number would be left at 1.
