RPI 2025 Off-Season: HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dunno what source you are gleaning info from, but I'd have to think they'd look for someone with midwest hockey ties for recruiting, and perhaps a link to the school. Lalonde, Blashill .....Berry if they are really serious about the program. (Don't get me wrong, I love the Riley kid and think he'd be a great fit in Troy...)

Actually this just occurred to me....I did notice that Lalonde was in L. Placid last weekend for ECACs ...I wonder if he had a stop in Troy on his way north ? ..... hmmm.

The intrigue !! LOL

Maybe it's just me, but if those are Ferris' finalists I would expect Riley to be named coach before dinner time.

Edit: That is, unless some other school nearer to his roots also has him as a finalist.

Apparently the date is different for the men than the women ? What with Trnkova and Skoda entering the portal ? Or is that their intent with formality made after that date?

Mike McMahon posted that Riley is the favorite for Ferris in his newsletter

As exciting as it is to get a new coach, and hopefully the right one, there needs to be a broader plan in place from the Athletic Director (AD) and directly from the top, including the President, Board, Alumni, and others involved. I am not sure if that is currently being addressed.

I posted this the other day from Dave Aiello, RPI alum. In it he states:

"..... Marty Schmidt, President of RPI and member of the undergraduate class of 1981, is the biggest hockey advocate since the late George Low ’48, one of his predecessors. This choice is quite significant for RPI, because hockey is a huge part of our campus culture. Anyone who has heard Marty speak knows that he realizes this is as almost as big an imperative as being top notch in all things STEM."

Think it's going to be Lang but I think Jewell would be a good option. He's hungry and energetic. This program has been sleep walking for the last seven years. Good recruiter.

I think Jewell is fine, but personally, I'd rather not hire someone to be head coach who was here under Dave. Let's start fresh and get some new blood in here imo. He is a good recruiter, and not a bad option by any means. He could be successful here but you could hire Joel Beal and also get a young and energetic coach with a recruiting track record. I'd prefer Lang the most of all options though; there's no disputing his track record with his run at AIC, and everyone only has positive things to say about him as a person and coach.

I'm ok with Lang.

Today is 27 March 2025. There are 191 days until RPI's next game. It has been 18 days since there has been a head coach

This is based upon 4 October 2025 for the start of next season, and 10 March was the day that coach Smith was relieved of duty.

Ideal scenario for me is Lang and hope he hires a top rate recruiter, the way Dave did with jewell 7 years ago. Prefer Beal to Jewell as well, Nate Leaman is starting to build a hell of a coaching tree.
