RPI 2025 Off-Season: HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I figured we had a coach when I heard bells ringing above the Fieldhouse House and a column of white smoke rose above the roof. And then I knew it for sure when one of the staff came out front and yelled “Habemus Coachum”. Tomorrow we are off to St. Louis, so we will miss the coronation.

Are you sure that the smoke wasn't the popcorn machine? ;)

Well we got Our Guy Lang is Our best chance for success I believe He has contacts with and will bring in several CHL players (Let's hope admissions cooperates) and that my friends is the un tapped gold mine not the portal trust me there are no Saviors in the Portal for mid level teams I'm quite confident that any Impact player that hits the portal already had a pre determined landing spot. So We turn the page and begin a new chapter of RPI Hockey
..GO RED !!! And Good Luck to OUR new coach Eric Lang !!!

Can report that Lange and Zirnis are being retained per sources. Just one assistant spot to fill
That’s good for keeping recruits and whatever is left of the team. Gavars is in the portal from SLU he might be an option? I think with the portal showcase coach lang is holding this weekend I bet he will have many recruits lined up for RPI.

I agree that any impact player who is in the portal at this time has a predetermined landing spot, but that does not mean that their minds can't be changed.

I bet they keep Zirnis and lange on and hire one
I don't disagree, but the coaching staff construction needs to be the new coach's decision. That said, Brendan Riley - one of Lang's ACs at AIC was named HC at LIU (replacing his cousin Brett). So that is one fewer assistant coach option for our new coach.

Agree. I suspect there are a few AIC kids he would like to teleport in to Troy. Add in a few major junior kids and a portal kid or two and off you go.

A great hire for RPI - and what feels like the first moment of significant, genuine optimism for the program in some time.

Will be interesting to see how Lang navigates the opportunities in the portal and CHL in the context of RPI's academics and admissions standards. It's a real change of direction, and requires operating at real pace, for an institute that is not known for its agility or flexibility in recent years. But even some progress would be really positive.

For those closer to what's happening in Troy, would love to know if there's any further chatter about other investment to support the program. I have to imagine Lang would not have taken the job if it didn't feel like RPI was committed to elevating it. Thinking about day-to-day things as much as a big Field House renovation.

I agree with your sentiments. Smith had grabbed a CHL keeper and a few other current recruits have played games in the CHL, so it sounds like there is some framework for who can get through admissions. I would note that hockey alum Kevin Broad works in admissions for RPI and would suspect he is involved with the players entry process into the school.

Regarding the rink, there has been zero public discussion since they announced the feasibility study well over a year ago. We know that the ice surface needs replacement (i.e. jackhammer the slab and replace the refrigeration). This is not an optional event as the refrigeration system is failing and was not up to RPI standards this past season.
