RPI 2024 Off-Season: Was 2023 – 2024 Just a Bad Dream?

Tonelli was hurt a bit this year, but he was 2nd in xG per game for Brown and led them in PK TOI per game, which operated at 81%. Think he is a good fit in the middle 6 and will help defensively and on the PK

My first RPI hockey game was in 1976 so it was a surprise to me to discover that Jordan has an uncle Ray (brother of Jordan's dad John of Islanders championship era fame) that played at RPI in the early 70s.

I did a quick Google of Elliott's career at UMASS. What I found interesting was it looks for his first two years he played at Colgate. Looks like he's returning to ECAC. According to the UMASS website, in his second year at Colgate, he blocked 80 shots in 40 games (averaging 20 per game). That stat seems really high, can anyone confirm if that's a misprint on the website?

I would say that he averaged 2 blocks per game. I think that your decimal point moved. :-D

Today is 9 April 2024. There are 179 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 5 October 2024 for the start of next season.

Will Gilson commits out of the portal. Right shot dman. Played past two seasons at Alaska anchorage. Currently a sophomore

So I keep waiting for Bowers or Schmidt to Explain to the fans the current state of RPI Hockey doesn't look like that is going to happen any time soon so I guess it's time to do the most dangerous of things make some assumptions:
I assume They Have Decided to bring Smith back not only for this year but the remainder of his contract because if he was put on notice they would say that. Instead of maybe making a change or bringing in a new assistant or associate coach with some recruiting chops and start laying a foundation for future sustained success we are going to do it Via the Portal the NCAA version of a garage sale, and again I'm assuming they are eating up some scholarship $$$ curtailing our ability to recruit. JMO there are very few surprises in the portal for instance the player we are getting from Umass is on his 3rd team and will be 26 in Feb. I don't think any surprises there. The Kid from Brown didn't dress at all his freshman year and never dressed for every game in any year and has less than 30 career pts and the Goalie is also on his 3rd team and Watson has better numbers facing more shots. If this all works out at best its a short term fix.I hope it does work out but I believe there is a time and a place for the portal but using it to build a team is not it and again not looking to argue that's just my opinion.I thought at some point long before this Bowers would lay out Her vision of RPI Hockey instead we get crickets.

Hard to know what to think, but certainly we'd have heard by now if a coaching change was in the plans. I am sure a hard conversation was had with Bowers telling Smith that progress is needed. How much leash he gets to try to resolve things is anyone's guess. I do agree with your sentiment that its long past due that we hear from the AD and Prez re: the HFH and what direction they plan on heading on the facilities side. After all, the last time we heard about renovations was when they hired Smitty and Shirley and MacElroy blabbered on about planned renovations which apparently was a complete work of fiction...to put it kindly.

Marty and Kristie own this now. The portal should be used to bolster a team not build it.

Many were skeptical when Dr Jackson and Lee pledged resources. It was a ruse to get alumni off her back.
