Your homophobic reference. I'm not into cancel culture though so you will be able to parrot the talking points handed to you. You be well also. Go Cherry and White.

I need to apologize. That is one of those terms that you hear all your life without thinking into the meaning behind it until someone else brings it to your attention. Yes, it is homophobic, and it's a shame it took you calling me out for me to realize that. That was uncalled for by me, and I hope you can accept this apology

You're fine bro. I love the passion. No need for that. You and yours stay well. With the new prez, I hope to get to a game and I'll seek you out and buy you an alcoholic beverage. Also, sorry if I offend you in anyway. God bless

I have no inside knowledge, but given how hard the admin. worked to squash the findings I can only conclude that the answer is yes.

I'd actually suspect the reason to be a legit retirement decision on her part. Dr. Jackson was president for over 20 years and is 75 years old; she might just want to move on. I am aware of the controversies in her tenure but I didn't get the sense it really moved the needle with the board to the point it ever became a risk for her, even when it was getting a lot of coverage in the local papers several years back.

He was behind a kid named Savory who had a .932 GAA that same season. I have no idea about his being "pushed out" but I'd bet $5 the conversation went something like: " Well, Owen's our guy ... and I'm not sure you'll see much ice time....." So he likely was presented with a decision: Stay and sit behind Savory or depart to chase your dream and find a team that needs a keeper. Happens all the time, just not that often at RPI. I'm glad he found success at AIC.

I can't remember the exact timing, but am I misremembering that Owen had already gone to Lowell mid-season before Alec entered the transfer portal? Jack Watson's impending arrival might have been a bigger factor. I liked Calvaruso's game. I actually thought he might have offered a better option for RPI this year at #2--but it was a limited sample size, to be fair. But it is tough being a goalie at this level; you only need one per game. And I don't think Alec saw another game after that tough night at Western Michigan. It was Owen's job after that. I'm glad that Alec is finally enjoying a run of playing time that earned an NCAA berth. He's had to really hang in there to earn a starting role for a team.

I try to take the stories from departing parents and players with a grain of salt, even going back to Seth Appert's day. Sometimes they are true and objective, sometimes the coach could have done something better, sometimes the player is being diplomatic so he doesn't look like a malcontent for the next coach that might be interested. But other times the cold realities of top level college sport cloud the perspective--it can be so depressing for players and parents when it doesn't pan out after you put that much in to get to that level, I've seen it really sour a view of a program, even when it's clear the player just isn't up to scratch. And sometimes, of course, both parties benefit from a change.

Let’s turn this back to recruiting. One thing Smith has to deal with that no other coach did is the NIL. If you have a “brand” and are an above average hockey played, you’re going to the school that can give you the most visibility, not necessarily pro visibility. Linden. That adds a whole other level.

True in theory, and certainly will be a factor in the revenue sports that have big national television exposure. Some of these college quarterbacks are going be millionaires as freshmen. I think the impact of that might be muted a bit for niche sports like hockey that generally don't have big TV contracts, or where players can get drafted before/while in school. If you are a draft pick as a college player, I would guess that would be more meaningful to your marketability in the short term than which school you chose, on average.

Today is 23 March 2022. There are 192 days until RPI's next game. There are 100 days until RPI has a new president.

This is based upon 1 October 2022 for the start of next season and 1 July 2022 for the end of @#$%^.

The question I have, is how does a school like Harvard come up with 12 drafted players?
I understand Harvard's reputation for Lawyers, Doctors and MBA students, but a hockey power house?
What can they offer these players that we can't? (I am only talking about hockey).

Nothing really hockey-wise, unless you count losing in the Beanpot. It's the status of going to what is considered by many as the best academic institution in the country (or at least in Massachusetts). OTOH, if they play pro, they probably get a lot of kidding.

If any of my fellow posters are going to Albany for the regionals, I just spoke to a worker at MVP Arena and was informed that they are allowing re-entry for Thursday’s games. Good news for the local bars and restaurants.

It's not even the best academic institution in Cambridge, but the other one doesn't play NCAA hockey.

We have to also remember how much money in endowment Harvard has. They can probably afford to allow almost all students to come to school for free so any and all athletes most certainly could qualify for some sort of funds. This may also apply to some of the other Ivy schools but as some have suggested, at Harvard you do get to say you went there and you get to wear a big H on your sweater.

I am slightly confused regarding the regionals. There are 2 games tomorrow, Thursday, and two also Saturday? I thought, for some reason, there would only be 1 game Saturday as the purpose of the regional is to determine who goes on to play in Boston. And neither of the losers on Thursday will be going. So the only purpose to consolation games is to determine who occupies what position in the polls? Thanks.

You see this is what happens when you can’t go to games. You start to ask yourself questions like “What is that round black thing the players are throwing around the rink”.

There are 2 games tomorrow in both the Albany and Loveland regionals for a total of 4 games. On Friday there are 2 games in both the Worcester and Allentown regionals for a total of 4 games. On Saturday the Albany and Loveland semifinal winners play for a total of 2 games and on Sunday the Worcester and Allentown semifinal winners play for a total of 2 games. Those 4 winners go to Boston.
There are no games being played as consolation games in any of the regionals. Once you lose, your season is over.

The reason I bring it up is I printed the NCAA 2022 D1 Men’s Hockey bracket and if lists 2 games tomorrow at 12 noon and 6PM and games Saturday at 4PM and 6:30 PM. It came in an email from the NCAA encouraging me to buy tickets which I already had purchased. So, in a sense, they are trying to lead you to believe you would get 4 games for your all session pass when it’s only 3. False advertising

Good news, but depends on what is open, unfortunately. A lot of restaurants in walking distance of the arena are not back to their pre-pandemic hours. I'd call ahead to the ones you are interested in to confirm. City Beer Hall or Hill Street between games, and a late Cafe Capriccio or Yono's dinner post game would be an ideal day for me. Hoping to catch the late game after work, but have some family stuff going on.

Yes, it is. The only reason why they list the game on Saturday at 4 and 6:30 PM is going to depend on which teams win in both the Albany and Loveland regionals tomorrow. I’m sure the Albany regional will be at 4 on Saturday. Doesn’t make sense to have the Loveland regional to be at 4 since it would be at 2 PM local time. Of course we’re talking the NCAA, so who knows?

I think that's right; Harvard is Harvard. I also think, like the other Boston schools, they have the geographic advantage of being in the amateur hockey hotbed of the East Coast. Ton of kids from Massachusetts on the team every year--natural to stay closer to home with options like that.

Didn't they somewhat recently do a nice renovation of Bright Arena and the team areas/lockers/gym to bring that up to standard?
