RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

Re: RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

thanks FD. Hopefully enough people will be, are, buying their tix now because if we draw Cornell (I think we will) I'ld hate to see the HFH at 50/50 RED.
That would be a concern indeed. I don't think that we will end up with Cornell, although if they win and either Colgate or Harvard (but not both) do also, we will.

Re: RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

North lot and bus it, or park down on Burdett/Peoples/Sherry/etc. otherwise I believe the only free lot is the one all the way at the top of the hill by LXA.

Or, if you get there early enough, you can park in the lot for the doctor's office. It's halfway up the hill and has stairs leading up to the Field House. This is what I do. Of course, when I am on the air, I get there around 5:45 and have no problem. When i am not on the air, I get there at 10 after 6 and this lot is almost completly filled. (Thanks, fairweather fans.)

The DuMass box office will still put visiting fans in Section 33. And if we have to play Brown, they'll probably threaten to sue us again.

Re: RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

There's a site that claims a mathematical possibility of RPI becoming even a #1 seed, but they don't publish any info on their methodology: http://playoffstatus.com/ncaahockey/ncaahockeytournseedprob.html

I have nothing else to do for the time being so I spent hours the other day playing with all sorts of possible outcomes. I can easily get RPI to a number 12 seed without much difficulty. But every step above took so many changes and tries, most totally implausible that I gave up. But i did find one series of results that got us as high as #7(or #8 IIRC). I just want to get us in-I would be happy with squeaking into #16 by a hair-but it would make a huge difference if we could get up to #12 and avoid a #1 seed in the first round. I am certainly not as adept as others here with these computations-and i still wonder how much easier moving up in PWR could have been (if not for one ref making a ridiculous call on January 26th). It truly amazes me how one small change going back early in the season-even to November, can now make the difference in PWR rankings. BTW, after trying to do it myself and seeing how tedious it is, I greatly appreciate your work with all of these numbers and possible permutations on WaP.

It apparently found a combination where we can still finish #2. That is hard to believe.

I followed the link RC provided and saw that. I cannot fathom how that can be but i suppose if everyone listed above us lost every game it might be possilbe in some fashion. What is obvious though is that we have to win the next weekend we play and get to AC. Thankfully this year we are playing at home and we have been vastly better there in ECAC play. I worry more about injuries and depth. We just have no healthy bench at this stage and getting anyone back would be like a giant Valium for me.

I, too, have nothing else to do in recent weeks and spent a good amount of my day on Monday making hotel reservations at EVERY possible location at which the boys may play . The good news is that I can cancel each one that doesn't materialize. The bad news is that my Outlook crapped out on me and so my calendar won't sync; so I had to print each reservation individually enter a reminder on my phone to cancel, should the direction change...the hotels are either booked or prohibitive...:(

That would be AC, four regional sites, and Pittsburgh?

I think any 1 (and only 1) of Clarkson, Colgate, or Harvard winning would put the Princeton-Cornell winner at RPI

I can surely see the possibility of that happening. Playing Cornell at HFH isn't as much a concern for me it's their arrogant, obnoxious fans that come with it......and I have family members who are part of it  :o

<s>It makes no difference whether Brown or Clarkson wins as to whether or not we play Cornell. The only that we can end up playing Princeton is if Harvard, Colgate, and Cornell all lose. (That includes the scenario of all of the higher seeds winning.)</s>

Good to see that you got that off your chest. :D

I think Pittsburgh in April can be lovely.:D I hope it is freezing cold so we can dress appropriately for it.

All the more reason for the RPI faithful to buy up the tickets....not they should need any encouragement.

Re: RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

If that happens, the Field House should ban fans from bringing in newspapers for as long as the series goes.

One thing to keep in mind here is that the two conferences with lots of teams above us (HE and WCHA) still have a week of regular season remaining. If those teams all get swept both of the next two weeks then we could still see some fairly decent changes in their RatingsPI. If Minnesota loses both games this weekend then their RPI drops from .565 down to .550. Two more losses gets them down in the .540 range. If we win our next four then we should be over .540 or close to it. So I suppose it's plausible but boy everything needs to break in the right direction for it to happen.

I'll be happy with a 3 seed which is a 17% chance based on relative team strengths. I suppose that translates into 3 wins and a loss for us. If we win all 4, then I'd be surprised if we don't end up at least a 3.

Princeton/Cornell are the 8/9. Why wouldn't the Brown/Clarkson series make a difference? One would push Cornell up one spot when they re-seed and the other would push them down one spot. The only way we could play Princeton is if they were the second lowest seed left which means any combo of two teams winning above them would do it. Harvard could win along with SLU and Brown and RPI would play Princeton if they won.
