RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

One game at a time... Follow the process... Be attentive to the details... Saturday first.
Skate your game. Go get 'em!

Just win, baby!

Agreed. Friday is over. Lets hope they play tonight the way they have the past two months. Zalewski and Bubela looked nervous and lee was awful; trying to be cute. This team can't play cute and win. Lee has to step up. This team needs to get shots on borelliI and charge the net. They are better than brown but need to play their game.

Re: RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

I did! Wished I could have been at the HFH, and the video feed wasn't worth the $10,
but it was nice to be able to see the game (as great a job as WRPI does!) Only real
saving grace was the ability to see all 4 playoff games, so I caught the end of the Union
game, and bounced around the others during intermissions.

Looking forward to seeing some quality play tonight from the boys! It's been TOO long since
we've been to the small dance...

I watched the video feed. The quality wasn't as good as the RPI-TV. It was blury when there was a lot of movement. Brown seemed to pressure the points taking away space and time. Go RPI. Win tonight.

Re: RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

Playoff hockey. From here on out, it's win or go home. Time to play like your life is on the line - mean, fast, & physical. Let's Go Red!

Re: RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

Season on the brink go red

Back from the brink-but sitting on the edge now. With Nick injured it will be really tough for us tomorrow. Not only down to 5 defensemen, but missing our offensive quarterback and biggest threat. BTW tonight must have been something at QU-winning 10-0 over Cornell (I will have to check and see if they have ever lost by that much in a playoff game) and the ref handing out 184 minutes in penalties. Big Mike must be taking something to calm down after this one.

Re: RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

Here's an enhanced PWR for the situation as of now, and another one that outlines the best case scenario (including RPI win).

http://cool-studio.net/2013-03-16_PWR_Ideal_Win.pdf

My Best Case Picks:
UNH over Providence
Quinnipiac over Cornell
Denver over Colorado College
Minnesota over UNO
NoDak over Michigan Tech
Miami over Michigan State
Mercyhurst over Holy Cross
Ferris State over Ohio State

With a loss tonight, the best case in other games can leave us with a chance to place 15-16th. Wisconsin and BU would have to lose next weekend, and we'd become big Niagara fans.

Ed Weaver's article about Saturday's game http://www.troyrecord.com/articles/...5145465a604b6539034234.txt?viewmode=fullstory.

Bailen says he's fine and will play this evening.

Getting Bailen back tonight will be big. NOt just for his offense, but it would leave us with just 5 defensemen if he were out. Very thin bench, can't afford to get hurt or thrown out of tonights game.
Need to play our game and get this over with early.
Game got very chippy late last night, we don't need that. We need to keep our heads up tonight, Brown did not look happy at the end last night.

Re: RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

Watched the hit on Bailen a bunch of times on RPI TV late last night. Both Jen and I felt it was not a knee-it was above the knee and actually upper anterior thigh. That kind of contusion can be very painful and even quite limiting, but it is not, thankfully a knee. Nick may be somewhat limited-it remains to be seen how much ice time and how effective he can be. But for sure he needed all nikght ice, rest, elevation and compression. Fingers crossed here that he can not only go-but go as Nick can-at 100%. Cannot overempahsize the job tht McGowan did last night. i think he got 3 assists. But he played with mixed up lines and still fought every second of every shift. The Laliberte goal-normally not a big fan of GWG stats-but that was the game right there. He scores late in the third and we have a lead for the third period.

The officiating? Not exactly what i would call sterling. I cannot understand the major on Bubela-watching the play several times-it might not even be a penalty. Give kudos though to the Brown player who did a superlative acting job. By the same token, the Brown major for kneeing? That was an unavoidable high speed collision. If you must, call it a trip-but certainly not a 5 minute penalty (It did however, put a player out of commission which the Bubela hit did not). I did think however, that Luke was going to get 5 for the hit into the boards. He creamed the kid-but it was not a clear cut charge (he did not leave his feet or take two strides to make the hit). He just hit him with 250 pounds of brute force-something that should never be misconstrued as a major. I suppose we will get the same refs tonight-Hopefully they do not insert themselves into the game and make calls which determine the outcome. We are a very good team, and if we play to our capability, we shoud not be going home. I am still hoping for 5+ more games for us. I had predicted 20-22 wins this year and i am still holding out hope we get there.

BTW-too soon of course to say this-but we are going to be one tough mother of a team next year. Getting back Schoreder and Tinordi, and adding some very impressive freshmen to this group of MGLowan, Neal, Laliberte, Haggerty, Bubela, Rogic, Miller, Fulton, Zalewski and Higgs up front-and with the defense we have and a superb goaltender-the sky is the limit. Go Red!!!

We were chippy? Take a look at the 10-0 QU-Cornell boxscore. One QU player even managed to get a double major penalty both with game misconducts.

Re: RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

Friday we played like what I saw in Ithaca. Saturday looked more like what we all expect. It doesn't matter any longer, though. It's game seven. Do or die.

997! WE WANT MORE!

I didn't say that we were chippy. The last ten minutes, both teams were chippy.
This will not be good for tonights officiating. The refs will be on edge and calling it very tight the first ten minutes. And if they start calling penalties early, they won't stop. This could turn into a special teams game.

Re: RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

Forgive me if this has been asked before, but what is the impact to PWR if Niagara doesn't get to 10 TUC wins?

It appears that without the 10 TUC games, they stay around a 13 seed. Honestly, if they reach the 10 game threshold, Niagara would most likely shoot up much higher, as currently it stands at 5-2. Even with a few losses tossed in, that TUC record would win them a few comparisons.

EHF: I have been very wary of special teams play for us for a long time. As this year has unfolded i am more comfortable at least with 5 on 4 either way. Not keen on 5 on 3 for or against for us. As you know-penalty calls and special teams are crucial-and you cannot just look at the final stat sheet. If they even up the calls it looks great on paper. But it is when they make the calls-and how they are spaced out. Killing off a 5 on 3 is worse than killing off two 5 on 4's separated by 10 minutes. Killing off 2 consecutive penalties is harder than killing off 2 that are many minutes apart. Getting called for a penalty right after a goal can influence momentum . Penalties early as you mention can change how you are forced to play the entire period. And penalties late in a period when you are already tired can be more problematic. I do not think that the officials do most of this intentionally (with a few glaring exceptions) but none the less, they do it. I am not on a crusade-but our boys have turned around a season-incredibly-and they deserve every chance to have these games played fair and square and have efficient and competent officiating. It would be heartbreaking to end up being eliminated this season from post season play simply because some zebra made an inopportune and incorrect call for whatever reason he deemed necessary. This was why i was so hot over the Kotyra call on Bailen in the Union game on 1/26. It may turn out to have had no effect on our final standing-but it could have-and if that happens tonight or in AC, then you will see steam coming out of my ears. Just my 2¢ and in this economy that is not worth a whole lot.

St. Patrick's Day and hockey? Well this calls for a Dropkick Murphys pumpup!

Re: RPI 2013 Part V: Who Wants Screech?

Baker was horrendous last night. He lost control of that game by calling everything on RPI and nothing on Brown. That's why you get a kid putting a knee on knee. Hey, I got away with it, so hey why not take it to the next level. The ECAC should not allow Baker there tonight. Remember Baker officiated the last Brown series and allow them to mug JDA and Pirri. In game 1, he called three penalities on Pirri in the first period. Baker carries the bias that he was taught by Paul Stewart. I was proud of the RPI faithful last night by turning the heat up on Baker. Going to be a war tonight. Go RED!!!!!!!!!!!!
