RPI 2013/14 Part III: Maximum Overdrivel

Re: RPI 2013/14 Part III: Maximum Overdrivel

There is something wrong with the team picture. There are 27 players and only 26 are on the roster. Who is the last one on the right (not the woman, not the I recognize her either ;) ) in the second row? On the back row who are the first on the left and second from the right (between Miller and DeVito)? Two of those should be Wood and Schroeder, but none look them to me.

I identify
X 18 14 2 19 17 24 6 26 X 20
1 9 21 5 4 10 39 15 X
33 11 10 28 23 3 34

The woman is the team doctor.

You listed 10 twice, obviously the front row 10 is 12. I would think Wood's on the left. As for the mystery dude, probably some on the practice squad that plays with the club team.

I did mean 12 instead 10. If Wood is on the left on the top row, then is that Schroeder on the top row second from the right? It doesn't look like him to me. The one next to the women has a number in the 30s, and I agree must be a non-roster player.

And if that is the team doctor, I now know why we have so many injuries. ;)

Re: RPI 2013/14 Part III: Maximum Overdrivel

Question for you - if SLU plays their top line of Carey every second shift, and RPI matches that with a checking line, which line of RPI's will play most of the game? How much action will Haggerty's line get?
I have a fun exercise for you. There are 60 minutes in a regulation hockey game right? Go look at a few SLU box scores and tell me how many times Carey's line has played more minutes than 60 minus the maximum number of minutes Haggs has played this year. I'll bet the answer is 0. So how is Hagg's line constrained by the suggestion?

I've always been a fan of true PK lines and matching up a checking line with the top forward line on the other team. Appert doesn't seem to subscribe to that theory. It might be worthwhile for him to start doing so. Any idiot can just keep throwing his top players out there and hope for the best. The challenge is to use your players to gain the maximum output over 60 minutes - not to win every 30 second shift.

Re: RPI 2013/14 Part III: Maximum Overdrivel

Sounds sensible. But. is that the "Engineer Way"? ;)
I'm afraid not. The "Engineer Way" would be to figure out how to win over an infinitessimal period of time and then integrate that strategy over 60 minutes. In other words, play the best line you have all game which means sk8ter must be an engineer.

54. Ryan Haggerty, Forward, RPI (Free Agent)

The RPI junior and USNTDP product started the season off with a bang and still has very solid numbers, but he was averaging a goal per game for the entire first semester. He has a hard shot and plays a bigger game than his frame suggests, but perhaps his best asset is his ability to see the play develop and be in the right spot at the right time. He plays with an edge, but needs to bring it every shift. .... http://www.sbncollegehockey.com/2014/3/5/5394118/ncaa-nhl-top-100-prospects-41-60

I need to make a more thorough examination before i comment. But first thought is that the boys don't need to eat many apples now.:)

Pretty sure that's Zach between Miller & Devito. Not sure who's on the right of Travis (Jake W. recently got a pretty short haircut)....no idea who's next to the trainer. He is wearing a # in the 30's & only Haggs, Kazzy & Scotty have those.

I wonder if there will be any more Engineers included.

Somewhat RPI related-Incredibly mixed emotions right now-My worst nightmare, and biggest RPI nemesis of the 1990's for 4 full years is now a member of my most favorite NHL team that I have followed for over 60 years. Martin St Louis from the very good Vermont teams of the 90's, after 14 NHL seasons, is now a member of the NY Rangers.

Was saying the same thing. Heartbroken we traded Cally but we shall see how this works out...

I survived rooting for Oates, Carter, Juneau and others when they played for Boston.

In order to do this exercise, you would need a team that actually matches a checking line on Carey. Then you would need to compute the amount of time during the course of the game, the top line of the team matching Carey gets on the ice. I bet you the checking line during the course of that 60 minutes (depending on constraints - game situations) will play more than their top line, which is my point. Obviously, Carey's current line is better defensively than Haggerty's based on the stats.
