RPI 2013/14 Part III: Maximum Overdrivel

Re: RPI 2013/14 Part III: Maximum Overdrivel

Sikura has a -7. Not that I know, but why not run our best line against that? Pinkston (d) has a -10 with 40 PIM. Not that it will happen a lot necessarily, buy why not try to get the top line out when Sikura is on O and Pinkston on D? I'm sure there are better hypotheticals. I'd like to look for some specific match-ups this weekend and would appreciate theories.
Absolutely! Look for matchups whether they are lines or individual players. I think this is a low scoring series and Sikura was their leading scorer last year and I think one of their better players. However you keep him off the scoreboard gives RPI a better chance to win. For a team that got outscored by 20 something goals maybe a -7 is one of the better plus minus stats.

And a vote for Higgs today

Today is March 7, 2014. There aren't any players ahead of Brock Higgs! Did you vote today?

Brock has a 13.2% lead on Zarbo, and Clarkson still sucks!

By the by, I've found you can vote with your phone, too. Which I should have known, but they do have a special mobile interface that makes it easy.

If you throw your checking line out against their top line it means that your top line will match against their checking line. You want your top line out against there top line because they most likely are not proficient defensively either. Also it will limit the minutes your top guys get. IMHO.

At least in home games where we have the last change, I would disagree. I would want my checking line against their top line and my top line against their second or third line. And if they don't like the match up, they can try to change on the fly and hope that they don't screw up in the process.
On the road, you don't have much choice. Personally, I would love it if the opposition wanted to play their top line against my top line. I don't see where that gives anyone an advantage. JMO

It is way more important to match D vs F than it is to match F vs F. http://espn.go.com/nhl/statistics/player/_/stat/timeonice/sort/avgTimeOnIce
Proof is in the pudding!!

Off the cuff prediction for this evening's game with no empirical evidence to back it up whatsoever: 4-2 RPI win with an ENG, possibly one shortie, one on the PP, one breakaway/stupid goal that Dartmouth gets that should have been stopped.

Series prediction with no empirical evidence to back it up whatsoever: RPI wins the series, but does it in three games, and in "just enough to get by" mode.

That's an oddly specific prediction for tonight, but hey, it could happen. :D Agree with the series prediction.

I think that the Engineer Way is to build a moat around our goal and fill it with alligators. :)
