Re: RPI 2013/14 Part II: The HFH is Covered with Frozen Drivel

There is no truth to the rumor that RPI has announced their line up for any playoff game against Union will be the following-

Tim "Doctor Hook" McCracken
Ogie Oglethorpe
Gilmore Tuttle
Andre "Poodle" Lussier
Ross " Mad Dog Madison
Clarence "Screaming Buffalo" Swamptown

If Bruce Coles had any college eligibility left-I am sure he would also be in the line up.;)

You forgot Carl Racki from Youngblood!

So on the Daily Gazette, there's a poll:

Is a two-game suspension appropriate for Union hockey coach Rick Bennett?
Click here to read the related news story.
Yes 64% 24 votes
No 35% 13 votes
Vote in this poll
Total Votes: 37

I voted when there were 36 votes, 13 no's. I voted no, of course. Then I refreshed the page a bunch of times, nothing happened. Refreshed yet again, suddenly a tally went to the "yes" column.

Not sure if technical glitch, delay, or conspiracy...

It looks like Haggerty is the first one off the RPI bench and engages #9 Carr. Not good!

There's no question Haggerty went straight for the fight. One player does not a team make, though. Union players went after the others. In fact, the Union bench cleared to go after Curadi.

You're missing my point. A player cannot leave a bench to engage in any altercation, no matter whether it's during play or after a game! Also, it is the responsibility of the coach to hold their bench!

So teams are no longer allowed to go off the bench to congratulate their goalie after the game? Make all the whining you want about fights starting, legs were sweeping over the boards the instant the clock read "00.0" for the purposes of a win being attained. That makes your leaving the bench to engage in an altercation argument null and void. Do you really expect players to be able to jump backwards just because, when they're more than halfway over the boards, they happen to see Bodie cross-check Higgs to the head, and the other Union players on the ice going after RPI players?

We'll see. The only RPI players to have any thought to congratulate their goalie, was the four that were on the ice after the faceoff (Higgs excluded).

I'm not whining and I did not say anything about who started what. Video doesn't lie. Appert did not hold his bench and Haggerty was the first to leave and join the altercation. Check your rule book!

I'm well aware of the rule regarding leaving the bench for purposes of an altercation. However, you are using the convenient timing of the end of the game in order to justify it being leaving the bench for the purposes of the fight. It is possible that this could end up as a rule change, similar to how you no longer see bench clearing when a goal is scored.

A man sees what he wants to see and disregards the rest... lie lie lie lie lie lie lie...

It's pretty clear from the video (which may not lie but doesn't tell us what the players are thinking and, to be honest, doesn't tell us what they're saying to each other either) that Carr is sizing up Haggerty as the latter is coming off the bench. If you want to point fingers at someone who's obviously making a beeline for a Union player, you misspelled Dolan.

This thread certainly attests to the fact that people often see what they want to see. This is why eyewitness identification is just not as reliable as was once thought. You can also make a case for whatever you want-just focus on some minutia and make that your major point of argument. I have a horse in this race so that I coulc never be considered totally impartial-but some facts are just irrefutable and some of the events really are not debatable. Lots of players, perhaps all 42 on the ice at the end, all did something at sometime to someone. But only one coach seemed to be out of control and throwing fists at others. And that is just not anything that is part of team sports, even hockey, and can never be tolerated to any extent at all.

A bit more concise than what I posted and about 30 seconds faster-but agree, agree, agree!

Then if you are well aware of this, as I stated earlier, whether it's after the game or during the game has NO bearing on the act. It is also the responsibility of the head coach to hold his bench after a game if it is warranted. I would say it was warranted in this case wouldn't you??

You really, really want it to be true that Appert sicced the bench on Union's skaters, don't you? Admit it.

So now you're saying that Appert is expected to be Nostradamus and see into the future that Bodie was going to cross-check Higgs and instigate a brawl once the horn sounded? Keep reaching for those straws.
