Re: RPI 2011-12 Season: Posts on a Message Board

Tough loss yesterday. I thought we were the better team. I liked how we hustled for most of the game. We played physical and I think we will win tonight. Haggerty is just plain good! I love this kid. He his getting a lot of ice time right now. I also liked O'Grady yesterday. It was great how he tied up the defenseman at one point. Laliberte reminds me of Pirri last year. Great stick skills but a little slow at times. Especially in the 3rd period. I like Diebold. I don't mind having him as a back up goalie. He had some great saves. The powerplays didn't work well yesterday, but overall the team played very well. I predict a win tonight.

You watched Pirri play in Rockford? ;)

Thanks for the link AspyDad. Thought it was conspicuous that no ECAC team was mentioned.

As an aside, this dull ringing has returned, in my head.

Re: RPI 2011-12 Season: Posts on a Message Board

Outscored but not outshot, not always a good or accurate indication of how a game went. My favorite part is the Mavs only scored one goal. I thought that when Alan left he would leave a bigger void than when JD'A and BP left. Hppefully the goalies & d pick up the slack.

RPI has 7 Dmen on their roster. 1 is not dressing tonight, LC. I guess the coach does not buy into all the over the top bs posted on here and is running his team based upon the best players dress mode . Ralph, the only D sitting in the stands is not considerd an upgrade.

Unless you are in the locker room or at practice you do not know why a player is or isn't dressing.
Most of the posts here are a reflection of stats dug up by people that post on this board.
BS has little to do with. Looking through rose colored glasses may be closer to the reality. But that is what fans do.
The engineer's boards are probably the best on this site. For info and stats on incoming players it beats the others I have perused. Also where else can you find out how many days there are till the season starts.

Just a few thoughts on last night's game....there is no question this team works their buns off! I was impressed with the play of Diebold between the pipes however, he got hung out to dry a few times by poor puck movement and poor decision making while in full possession of he puck. The power play looks too systematic.....they need to create more off of instincts and what the defense gives you other than the strategy to get a certain player the puck. However, give Mn State credit, they did a great job taking passing lanes away with good stick positions. I don't understand how PK is now running the PP when he didn't really have much PP time last year....and to have Haggerty on the point on the PP is a waste....he should be half wall or low guy with his offensive capabilities.

Should be a real good early test to see how they respond tonight.

Great hockey game last night...the compete level by both teams was high...as the coach said we did turn the puck over to much but that will be adressed and rectified...as far as the power play goes I don't believe it was as bad as the stat sheet shows...I can only think of 1 or 2 pp's where we really didn't get anything going all the others we gained the zone fairly easy and got opportnities...if anything I think(and most people will disagree) we may have shot too much...we never really seemed to be able to shake that extra skater free on the weak side....credit some of that to MS doing a good job on the kill they kept a really tight box and clogged the middle up pretty good and didn't do alot of running around...there were some pucks laying around the crease but MS defended the crease well and we never were able to get good wood(carbon fiber) on them. All in all it was a good game...most tight games like these are decided on turnovers and we happened to be on the short end of that this time but we were playing to win not protect and got cought pressing a little too much...we should not need a pep talk tonight we get to play the same team and set the record straight. If we come out tonight w/fire in our eye and purpose it will tell us alot about were were at...I suspect tonight's game to be more of the same from last night...these are the type of games that make you better in Dec./Jan./Feb....LETS GO RED !!!!!!!!!!!!

Although I was only listening to the game, it reminded me a lot of Game 1 of the Cornell playoff series in 2008-09. One team outshoots, they're coming close, and the other goaltender is either keeping them in the game or getting lucky with some posts. You just get the feeling that someone will make a critical mistake, it'll end up 1-0, and that outshooting team probably won't win.

Let's just hope Game 2 is exactly the same as that series, and we just blow them out of the water.

I thought a great game last night as well. We looked very good and for the pre-game that Mankato hit everything in site, I thought we controlled the play much more than last year. Our break out of the defensive zone was much better than last year. I know TB said that maybe we shot too much - I don't think you can ever shoot too much. :). We should / could have scored at least 4 or 5 times, but just didn't fall for us. I said to my youngest son before the start of the 3rd that we needed a couple because a fluke play for even a second could have them drop one on us...and thats exactly what happened. All that being said, we were the better team - without question.

As fr individuals, I thought that LeBoeuf had an outstanding game. He laid the body all night and just had great shift after great shift. I really liked our D with Bailen, PK, Leonard...all had big games last night. SA is definitely going to ride Bailen this year and has the confidence to just let him play, and that he can. I can't wait to see the BRO again and hopefully he gets his chance to play tonight. At forward, these freshmen are really noticeable. I LOVE Haggerty. This kid's a player. Same with Schroeder and Neal. JL hasn't been the presence I think we all were anticipating yet, but it's still very early. CJ Lee And AAG are this year's Brutlag's - all hustle and hit everything and do all the dirty work in the dirty areas. This is going to be a really fun year

Also have to send a shout out to Babo, who I had a chance to meet between periods. Cant say more about how great she is in chatting with my youngest and just a great person and representative of what Knowlton and Appert are building at RPI in this program. Others can message whatever they want, we are a better team with this family. Also met Mr. Koudys, and just another fantastic representation of the program. Spent time speaking with my youngest and offered to have him meet PK after the game - thank you, and I may take you on that offer in due course, but just didn't think last night to be appropriate. A true gentleman. Great families breed great kids, and this program is loaded with both. We are all fortunate and I think we all see how special this program is. See you all tonight,,,,,

Sorry - forgot to mention Diebold. Came up big a couple of times last night and just looked smooth and composed. I am not worried about defense and goaltending. We need scoring. Out shooting our opponents is not something we came anywhere near doing last year. We handily outshot Mankato. Now we just need to finish. If we can net 2-3 per game with this defense and tenders, we will win a ton of games.

Flag If I was a betting man I would take the red tonite and give a couple goals if I had to

Re: RPI 2011-12 Season: Posts on a Message Board

Let me jump in with two comments concerning Hoky<fill in the blank> and the 'opinions' that float on this board and others:
1) Hoky<?> has spilled more crap than I care to recount. In order to have an opinion, there will have to be direct references to players by name. So, he'll surely continue to do it if you continue to encourage him to do so. IMO, he has little better to do than monitor players' junior seasons and how those infamous second assists appear. My guess is that he still lives at his parents in the basement.:D
2) No hockey parent, which includes me, like to hear the 'wisdom' on just how crappy my son played or why he was the reason the team lost. I've had my kid 'play' the first half of his freshman season in his suit and tie and then read the gloom and doom when he played. Hurts like hell...but it's part of the drill. There is no such thing as a deaf ear but there is a thing called 'ignore' on these boards.

Just my $.02
....still lives at his parents in the basement. Where did I hear that?.... hmmmmm :D

I think this has been a trademark of RPI hockey throughout the many years of hockey families and hockey tradition!

It was a pleasure to meet you and your young squire...this experience is turning out to be everything and more than we envisioned. The Hubster (who is a bit more reserved than I am...)is so happy that our son chose this school, this program. This is gonna' be a fun 4 years...:)
