And ND will be joining Hockey East in 2013-14. How long until the announcement of team #12?

Re: RPI 2011-12 Season: Posts on a Message Board

We have been plenty fast in previous years, but how is that going to play out against the clutch and grab (which, as boring as it is, is half of our schedule)? In addition, will our game be physical enough to offset the graceful European style of Yale? I certainly hope our western games will go a long way toward answering at least the second question.

I'm certainly not a hockey expert, but it looked to me like Acadia would try and trap us in the neutral zone with a bit of clutch and grab, but our speed allowed us to force them to skate and play our style of hockey. Hopefully the same will be true when it comes to ECAC teams, and out-skating them will be the key. As for physicality, I don't think any of our players are afraid to dish out hits when they need too. That area of our game seems to be just fine.:p

I have a hard time believing that our speed will be able to dominate ECAC teams like it did Acadia, but I can hope. :)

The BU AD was at the ND press conference as head of the HE expansion committee. He was asked about a 12th member and he said they haven't done anything yet and are "just letting the paint dry" on the ND expansion.

Edit: As for scheduling, Bertagna was asked and gave a garbled answer that included saying that ND would play "half their games at home and half on the road to minimize their travel." I assume he actually meant they'd play half the teams at home each year and half on the road (i.e. two game sets), but it was hard to tell.

That may just be a way to avoid further questions. No doubt if RPI is genuinely interested, SA and the Colonel have been speaking to everyone who counts.

It's been made official. Hockey East is currently holding its press conference. As an aside, they have said they have had discussions to move to 12 teams but nothing is definite. Keeping my eyes peeled for further coverage later.

Did the Poly have a preview insert today?

Yes, with spreads of the rosters of both the men's and women's teams as well. I noticed that in the descriptions of Brown and Clarkson it mentions them both as being in last in the ECAC polls. Hmm

That article says ND is the 18th school to change affiliation. By my count, all 11 CCHA schools have changed plus Wisconsin, Minnesota, Denver, North Dakota, CC, UNO, SCSU, and UMD from the WCHA. That's 19. One also could include PSU.

Any chance on scanning the insert? The Poly doesn't seem to want to publish online anymore.

I'm sure they have and based on the soft of awkward laugh he gave, it seemed like the BU AD was thinking "I hoped to get out of here without having to deal with that yet."

Jeff Jackson did say they were expecting to only have 5 trips east per year and would hope to have 5 to the west/midwest (H/H arrangements with UM, MSU, etc. woudn't surprise me) for OOC games. If they only go east 5 times for 2 game sets that either means 10 opponents or, more likely, they'll play a single road game with their "travel partner" and tack it onto one of the other trips.

Thanks. Actually Brown was last in one and Harvard in the other.
