Well, not to be negative Nancy here, but there's a bit of a difference in Hockey East - the titans.

Since 1994-95, when Hockey East expanded to nine teams by adding UMass, the "Big Four" of BC, BU, UNH, and Maine have accounted for 54 of 71 positions in the top four of the league (17 seasons, plus 3 other teams that finished in a tie for fourth). That's roughly 3 per year, which means there's not an awful lot of elbow room up there and it isn't getting any easier with a potential perennial powerhouse in Notre Dame joining the fold.

In the last 10 years those same 4 teams have accounted for 28 out of 32 HE NCAA berths. It has been a very top-heavy and relatively static league.

Don't get me wrong, if we make this move I hope we go balls to the wall to be successful. Someone observed that the program seemed to drop off after each of the last two dalliances with HE. I think that had at least as much or more to do with how our administration viewed and acted toward the program as it did league membership. We need a strong commitment to supporting the program regardless of the decisions to be made in the coming days/weeks.

Time to stuff the ballot boxes in a meaningless poll http://www.bcinterruption.com/2011/...ckey-east-expansion-notre-dame-boston-college?

RPI has a tiny arena, but QU's is a plus?

Thanks to everyone who has voted. Keep it up. It looks like it p*ssed off the author. He should be noting however that RPI will bring a large fanbase, probably larger compared to the size of the student body than the current HEA schools. (I wonder how we could measure that. Certainly it would be if posts on USCHO team threads was the criterion.)

According to the NCAA site BG accepted the invitation to the WCHA. Although the chances were extremely remote I saw some speculation that HE might look for more of a mid-western travel partner for ND. That option is apparently off the table.

Considering BC's the only HEA school that hasn't chosen to play us in recent history, I'm not all that surprised whatsoever.

We're talking size of the fanbase, not obsessiveness. ;)

I got a game puck that I had to vault a railing for to jump into the aisle to grab. Still sits on my desk today (looking at it as I type) and I still remember the game eight years later - tipped out of play after a Ben Barr scored a SHG with it. First and only RPI game puck, and would not have given it to a kid.
I got your back...:D

We WILL be at Princeton (or at least I will...the Hubster has to go away for 2 months starting mid October). We'll find each other in the 'Fur Coat' Section (make sure both you and Jenny have your best pelts on...)

We expect to be there and will post what section we will be in once we know. If it is even a bit nippy out, look for the fur!!

The Princeton game is on a Friday, yes? If it were Saturday, I'd be tempted to go. Heck, I'd consider taking a Friday off; I have to use up some vacation time as it is... after all, Hobey Baker Rink is one of the two rinks I've never seen in the ECAC (Thompson being the other).

You're not missing much. For a school with as much money as Princeton, the rink is a dump. Kind of makes your place look like a Taj Mahal. hehe ;)

All things considered you have a great atmosphere, but the arena lacks comfort. It's what Walter Brown used to be....only with a little less class. I will say this - I've seen how radio guys have to go up a ladder and down a catwalk to call a game. If that's not a logistical nightmare, I don't know what is.

He's still grasping at straws to attack RPI, which I find hilarious. Now he's trying to claim we're to blame for the "ECAC hosted regional" moving from Albany to Bridgeport. No, it couldn't possibly be because the state high school basketball tournament moved to that weekend.

When you hold yourself up as some kind of expert, it does help to know what you're talking about. This guy clearly doesn't know jack about hockey. He should probably stick to his floundering football team.

There's no better vantage point to call a hockey game on the radio than looking directly down on the ice surface. If that's not a perk, I don't know what is.

But they have a great view -- or so I have been told. :)

Boy did I type too slowly that time. :)

I'd have to agree. Whenever I am at an NHL game where I can get upper bowl center ice looking down at all the action (at about the vantage point of the press box), it's great. Acrophobia may get to me at first, but it's well worth it. I know, nothing like being DIRECTLY OVER the action, but hey, you take what you can get.

Didn't some of the radio announcers broadcast from a similar catwalk at Herb Brooks Arena in 1980? At least from something I saw on Youtube (of course who knows how true that is).

I would never have guessed it, but now that you mention it I'm sure it is. From my experience, press boxes that are right on top of stands are the worst (like Yale) and the catwalk clearly isn't one of those. On the upside, if you guys are ever out this way and really want to see a bad press box, I'm a Bentley guy thru and thru - our press box was built last year and it was a) poorly constructed and b) poorly painted. It's very cramped, and one of our radio guys is...well...he's not tall and thin, let's put it that way.

Then again, that's what we are to begin with, if you've ever seen the JAR.

I just think with your rink if they renovated it and put seats all the way around the bowl, it would become a better venue. I don't like the staging on one end where the band is (as a personal preference), having been there only for the playoffs against Brown a couple of years ago (I was at the game you guys won).
