Re: RPI 2011-12 Season: Posts on a Message Board

I'm not sure why I care, but here are some facts for you.

Over the past 3 seasons...

Union went from a .455 ECAC win % to a .818 win %. That is an increase by 79.78%.
RPI went from a .295 ECAC win % to a .545 win %. That is an increase by 84.75%.

Now, I certainly wouldn't say that Union sucks and not rising. They are. But RPI has been rising at a faster rate over the past three seasons.

You should know better than to confuse him with facts... Great post

300 to 500 is a little easier to do vs 450 to 800, please

rpi improved by 1 point, a tie to a loss last year. Union sky rocketed.

Union is there and has risen. RPI has gone from basement to avg, underperforming 500 league play team

Re: RPI 2011-12 Season: Posts on a Message Board

Try and stick to facts.
My deviation from facts was my choice in the teams that I chose. Why did I choose Yale? Because I believe them to be the best team in the league (OPINION). Why do I believe them to be the best team in the league? Because in the past two years (since that's the timeline you're so severely focused on), they have won a Cleary Cup, finished second by one point, and won a tournament championship. Those are facts. My opinion is supported by facts.

My other deviation from fact? Saying that I believe that Union is a team on the rise. Their record over the past three seasons indicates that they are a team on the rise.

You know what? I had a third deviation from fact. I stated that I think RPI is a team on the rise. Why? Because their out-of-conference record and schedule continues to improve and their overall record has improved considerably over the past four seasons.

Over the past five seasons, RPI's league standing has had the following path: T-8, T-10, 11, T-5, T-4. To me, that indicates a team that had hit bottom and is improving their quality of play.

Over the same five seasons, Union's league standing has been 12, T-4, T-8, 3, 1. To me, that shows a team that is brutally inconsistent but is much more likely to be better now than five years ago.

Not true...at least not according to the last 10 years of ECAC play.

RPI is the only squad to go from a sub .300 season to over .500 within three seasons. Meanwhile, Clarkson went from .455 to winning the league between 2005-2006 and 2007-2008. Yale also went from .386 to first in the league from 2006-2007 to 2008-2009.

The fact that two other teams besides Union had accomplished a ~450 to first in the league, while no other team besides RPI has gone from sub .300 to over .500 in three seasons, tells me that it is more difficult to do what RPI has done, than what Union has done.

false..

agree with everything you say about Yale. If they play well vs them and incosistant vs others, sounds like coaching issue

why last 2 years? Because the TEAM has nothing to do with 4/5 years ago. The team is the kids there now and that would be core over last 2 seasons

8th-3rd to 1st is awesome

11th to 5th to 4th is whatever.

one went from 9 to 12 to 17 wins in league play(guess who)

other went from 6 to 10 to 11. wow....

that is the biggest reach ever... But hey, if that is there goal. 500 mid/avg at best team who chokes to worst team in league every year in tournament, than bingo, we have a winner

8th-3rd to 1st is awesome

11th to 5th to 4th is whatever.

8th to 1st = 7 spot improvement

11th to 4th = 7 spot improvement

7=7

What are you not getting when you are typing your own facts?

9 to 17 wins, ~89% improvement

6 to 11 wins, ~83% improvement

Is 6% greater improvement that big of a difference to where one team is off the charts on the rise and the other mediocre? No.

I'm framing this one. Man, that's gold. Remember kids, it's not important to finish 4th. 11th of 12 is just perfectly fine. I mean, really, who would want to be 4th when they could be 11th!?

Re: RPI 2011-12 Season: Posts on a Message Board

Sorry, I haven't stopped laughing since someone said RPI was a "team on the rise". LOL. Good one.

I want to reiterate. This was posted by one of BROWN'S four fans.

You know, the team that was picked to finish dead last in the ECAC by the coaches... although the media thinks they can make it to 11th!

Re: RPI 2011-12 Season: Posts on a Message Board

I cant figure out why we are arguing. If It is so black and white and RPI is rising and has arrived, no worries

If you simply said, back to respectable levels and hope to build on it, great

but to pretend that a 500 team who chokes in playoffs both years is there, please

frame it burgie, 11th to 5th to 4th and choking impresses none of the top coaches and programs

the top ones would be hiding their heads but you want a ticker tape parade.

If that is their level and happy with it, great

I can't speak for RPI fans, but it doesn't seem as though they want a ticker tape parade. It seems that they would just like some respect for the improvements their coach and program have made over the past few years. They clearly deserve it, but you spout off statistics and facts that don't even support your claims.

I don't mean that the team is very good now, but the current team is much better than that when SA took over.
This is the crux of the argument, in my opinion.

While we are not currently in the hunt for a national title, we are certainly in a better position to make a run for it than 2 / 4 / 5 years ago. That's all that we're trying to say.

Re: RPI 2011-12 Season: Posts on a Message Board

... Tremendous relationships in western canada .... Kids from out there have also done very well and they talk
.

Ahh shucks, we can only hope that someday, if we do our chores and say our prayers that maybe someday we can recruit a great kid from Western Canada... Oh wait...what? Allen who ? Allen York ? He was from WHERE ?? Oh, that's right WETASKIWIN, ALBERTA. Jason Kasdorf is from where? WINNIPEG, MANITOBA Huh, who'da thunk it.

Maybe someday, if we're reaaaalllly lucky like Union, we can nab a coach or two who can recruit Western CA...It's probably WAY too big of a dream for me to wish for somebody who's from out there and maybe even coached out there.....

OH WAIT, what's that? Nolan who....? Nolan Graham? He's born and raised where? He coached WHERE ? Oh that's right, ALBERNI, BRITISH COLUMBIA !!!!

Take your mind numbingly clueless blathering over to the Union thread where it belongs....does no one patrol this board?

Nutshell.

We're not happy with it, numbnuts. That's the point of being ON THE RISE. No one's demanding a ticker tape parade.

QFT. The other meaning.

FS23, Thanks for joining us in the quicksand.

Hokydad, see even a fan of a school that destroyed (I think that is the verb you used) RPI 6-0 last year, agrees that the team is on the rise. Also Julie Robenhymer, who graduated from UMA, and thus apparently doesn't have a vested interest in this, wrote virtually the same thing.

opinions vary

bottom tier to 500 is fine but who cares. d 1 teams are not lap dogs

last to league champions and top 10 and 850 winning % is.

it all stems from the constant patronizing posts by RPI fans towards Unions team. Which is a superior team and will be for the next 3-5 years ta least,
