Re: RPI 2011-12 Season: Posts on a Message Board

Union won their first rd ECAC tournament series, RPI did not
Union won ECAC regular season crown, RPI finished 6th
Union was randed top 10 in country, RPI backed into ncaa playoffs going 2-7-1 in last 10 games

Union on rise, RPI not

Union DID NOT win a playoff series last year and for the most part have struggled in the ECAC's except for 09-10.

They didn't have one.

Union won ECAC regular season crown, RPI finished 6th

No, RPI finished in a tie for fourth, and were the 5th seed.

Union was randed top 10 in country

Randed?

RPI backed into ncaa playoffs going 2-7-1 in last 10 games

Small sample size. I could say Michigan lost their last game, therefore they are not a power team. Using your "logic."

Please continue to flail away until the guys in the white coats come to staple your hands to your pants pockets.

Do you not get what we are saying? We never claimed Union is NOT on the rise, but we ARE claiming RPI is ALSO on the rise. They are for different reasons and at different magnitudes/over different periods of time.

Also:
- Union never had one
- Actually we were tied for 4th and finished 5th
- Comparing the last few games we had vs. overall performance is like comparing 401(k) performance in the last month vs. the last year: they are entirely different sample sizes and periods of time to look at.

Union did not play in "the first round". In their first round of ECAC tournament games (which was the quarterfinals), they lost.

Hate to disagree with you but it is 3/4 who post 99.9% of the posts. Period

You are a very good contributor and write stuff RPI fans want to read. Did you notice the same 2/3 who took over the Hockey east thread and also try to take over the Union threads. Patronizing away to both

RPI is a very good program, a program that has limited if any success over past 25 years. If on the rise is 5th and 6th with immedioate first rd losses to lowest seeded team in league, than what is MC? The new BC? RPI is not on the rise until they win, period.

Union is on the rise. Out of total ashes, won the regular season crown and made the NCAA tourn for first time ever. Will be higher in league every year for the next several years.

When RPI wins, than they are on the rise. 6th to 5th and first rd loss to last placed team is not a RISE. Than losing first ncaa game 6-0 after backing in is not on the rise

Last year RPI was ranked around 15th in NCAA at end. They are starting out around 18 in polls, apparently the coaches etc dont see the rise. Union is ranked 11th...

On the rise to me means better than before. (It means having a derivative greater than zero. ;) )

Ralph, Hokeydope is not able to use proper grammar. Do you think he will have an understanding of math? :D

How close is he to getting to the point where he could be nominated for Poser of the Year? I realize that typically goes to a member of tLodge...

OK. Only reason I asked is because if you get the $1 chips at roulette, you must bet in intervals of 5 (at most casinos, anyway). Typically, people will play 5 numbers with that.

We use the $5 chips (remember i am an RPI graduate:)). I normally just play the outside of the board where the odds are slightly better-Jenny likes to just float by and pick a number or two. By all methods of mathematical reasoning I should of course do better than she does but somehow it just does not hold up. She wins most often and I break even or lose. However I do much better at Baccarat. It is one of the benefits of living 50 minutes from AC. :D

I knew you weren't going to use the quarters. :D I usually stick to craps, as not only are the odds better, but I have the ability to manipulate the outcome (although very difficult to do). As to why Jenny does better, from the tag-line of "The Joker's Wild": "Knowledge is king, and lady luck is queen." ;)

We are. However, if a bully is chasing you, sometimes you have to turn around and sock him in the nose.

Yup, definitely feeding the troll...

Most of what he is saying is not logically motivated.

He's pumping up Union because it gets a rise out of us. He's hung his hat on a few talking points. RPI's early round ECAC losses, the 6-0 NCAA beat down by NoDak, the 5-6 place finishes. Things he thinks will get under our skin. It became even more obvious to me after he talked about how bad Colgate is (as it pertains to RPI's first round loss last season), but then said "Sounds like Colgate has the character and the coaching needed to take a program to the next level." There's no rhyme or reason to most of what he says, so I call bs.

I agree with you... My suggestion, let's stop arguing hockey with this guy, and bash him for being completely worthless...

For most of the posters, yes, he is just trying to get under our skin. However, for some of us, it has gone higher than that, even to a personal level (obviously with me he's stuck on an opinion I had during Union's NCAA tournament game, but unfortunately it has gone towards personal lives with some other posters), and that is something I (and, from what I can tell, the aforementioned posters) don't tolerate.

When a sock in the nose doesn't work, perhaps it's time to use the "ignore" utility on this message board.

Starting to think my first impression of FreshFish was thankfully wrong!

Yes, and I regret that....I subsequently learned to my chagrin that my first impression was off-base. It appears you are a staunch defender of your friends and a fierce advocate against the ignorant, which I did not properly appreciate at first.

Thank you.

As others have said, he does have his entertainment value; however I am a bit conflicted in participating beyond a certain point, as it reminds me a little of the people who slow down on the highway to gawk at an automobile accident....on the other hand, it is all self-inflicted wounds, sort of like the scene in Fight Club where Ed Norton beats himself up.....pretty soon he may start bleating like Porky Pig, which I would find entertaining without being conflicted about it!
