RPI 2011 - 12 Recruit Thread

Re: RPI 2011 - 12 Recruit Thread

Plus, sometimes we get recruits that have the determination to get the team somewhere, like JL. Why try to fit yourself into a system when you have the ability to be creative and be a leader of the team on the ice? Perhaps that is what Coach is looking for.
Clearly there are plusses and SA is a great recruiter, but I am wondering what recruits may be thinking.

I suspect that RC is thinking that now that JL has arrived, I need something else to worry about. :)

Well, don't worry about... um... worrying, because I was hoping to see one or two more recruits for next season by now, too.

I'm not too worried about the effect of the record, though. The Spinks committed to Colgate last year in the middle of their death spiral.

Good point about the Spinks.

Re: RPI 2011 - 12 Recruit Thread

Bourbonnais is the only one who has committed since then. I don't know if that was a factor although it might have helped.
I was hoping Appert told Bourbonnais that RPI will be joining Hockey East in couple years and that was the deciding factor in his decision. :D

Re: RPI 2011 - 12 Recruit Thread

I wonder if RPI's lack of success this season is making it more difficult to recruit. Although there have been many recruits listed recently on Heisenberg's list for other schools, Bourbonnais is the only new recruit who has appeared in the last several months. I do suspect that although we still need additional players that we are probably looking for partial scholarship players and recruited walk-ons for the fall, and these tend to be added late, but additional players for 2013 and beyond could also be added at this time.

I also wonder if the lack of success might cause already committed recruits to have second thoughts. That seems to be coming more and more prevalent in recent years with both Cornell and UNH recently losing recruits (and perhaps others). I don't recall RPI losing anyone except H****y in recent years.

This is one worry that i fully agree we should have. I have been thinking just about the same thing for a few weeks now. Our recruit list has been static for some time-the performance of the team this year may indeed be having some effect.

With a two and half week layoff between games, im sure the coaches are out racking up the miles on their vehicles scouting holiday prep tournaments in New England, Jr. A games in Canada and USHL games in the midwest. So hopefully we'll hear some news of a commitment or two before the calendar changes for the new year.

I would think so, although unless the players in question have already visited RPI, I wouldn't expect commitments.

I continue to hope so!

Re: RPI 2011 - 12 Recruit Thread

FWIW, its been three months since Bourbonnais committed to RPI on 9/17, during this same time period last season we got commitments from 8 recruits (Neal, Haggerty, Bradley, McGowan, Zalewski, Miller, Leonard and Schroeder). If you include another month you can add Wood, Kasdorf and Melanson to the list.

We did however start with more on the list for that period this year.

Re: RPI 2011 - 12 Recruit Thread

On Friday, the Vernon Vipers defeated the Trail Smoke Eaters 10-1. Mike Zalewski had two goals, an assist, and an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. http://www.bchl.ca/leagues/hockey_boxscores.cfm?clientID=1413&leagueID=2393&gameID=977732&link=bchl (Note the stars aren't up yet, Zalewski was probably given one of them.)

Zalewski's line is now 30-17-22-39-41.

Edit: #1 Star. :)
BTW, two straight games with unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. The ECAC refs have been notified. ;)

Re: RPI 2011 - 12 Recruit Thread

On Thursday, Gunnery defeated Kent Prep 4-3 at the opening day of the Avon Old Farms Christmas Classic. Jake Wood had no points.

Wood's line is now 6-2-3-5-x

Gunnery played two games on Friday at the Christmas Classic. First game they beat Berkshire Prep 4-2 and the second game they lost 3-1 to St. Pauls. USHR has neither boxscore up yet. They play again today in the third place game against Trinity-Pawling.
