I have to give Union fans credit when it is due....they can be quite good at taunting people. In fact, one might say they are master baiters. :p

Yeah, especially one that used his second post ever to do it. Typical frontruner fashion.

I noticed that also. Considering that he wrote that he was a long-time lurker, I could see tha anger against RPI building to the point that he felt he had to register. :D

And then building even further while waiting 2 months for an admin to actually notice. :D

I hear that some have IQs as high as 26. ;) Just kidding.

Reminds me of the old joke, now out-dated....I may be a moron, but at least I'm no idiot!

(originally, idiot was IQ score of 0-25, imbecile was IQ score of 26 - 50, moron was IQ score of 51 - 75. As is typical with terms that start out "neutral" in connotation, these terms took on a life of their own when used in a broader, societal context.

The term "retarded" initially meant "delayed", nothing more....then it became a pejorative term over time as well. Whatever phrase is being used today for these conditions, it won't matter....in ten years, today's phrase-of-choice will in turn have become "insulting" and will need to be replaced by another)

Correct-when I was in medical school and then later as a psychiatry resident-those were indeed the medical terms used. There were specific criteria used for classification purposes.

Sadly, it's crap like that which keeps me from giving Union much respect even at a time like this when they should be earning it.

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part V: Don't Stop Believing

From Brian Sullivan's ECAC blog:
"RPI and Princeton are each a point ahead of Brown, and either could climb as high as fourth if the dominoes fall just right."

Actually, they can't. They can both catch Harvard, but they can't surpass everyone in front of them before doing so.

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part V: Don't Stop Believing

I found it humorous that Friday night was "Community Night" in Cambridge, where you got in free if you were a resident, yet the place still didn't "sellout". Telling.

Oh, and.... SUCKS!!
Maybe they didn't realize that the game was actually across the river in Boston.

I would settle for winning 3 of the last 4 games and let the seedings work themselves out any way they can-just going into the playoffs on that kind of streak would make me forget everything that happened earlier this season.

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part V: Don't Stop Believing

Excellent post.

I appreciate a reasonable discussion about the Capital District ECAC teams, both pro and con.......

I have sympathy for RPI fans who are suffering now since Union suffered quite a bit during their initial foray into the ECAC D-1 ranks.....

I just take offense and a certain amount of umbrage at all the sniping and the snide comments that defame a quality school like Union with both a good academic and athletic reputation......

I read one of the recent posts by WaP about booing during the singing of the other team's alma mater.....

I thought this dialogue was totally classy and it increased my respect for the overall RPI hockey community.....

I have a quick bio post on the Union thread, but in short, I graduated Union in 1992, the first year they went D-1....

I competed in both indoor and outdoor track while at Union and I am part of the living rivalry between the two schools, so I have knowledge of what I comment....

I promise to only chime in when I see childish comments made by the RPI community towards the Dutchmen............

Otherwise, I have many friends who are RPI graduates and I have always defended the academic reputation of the school, if not always the athletic reputation....(My flaw, I admit.....

Be Well.

Keith.

Fine....if the comments aren't made here, please don't come trolling here in "retaliation" for a post made elsewhere. It doesn't work like that.

Otherwise, you are welcome to lurk all you like. Perhaps hanging out in the company of engineers will elevate your vocabulary.

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part V: Don't Stop Believing

Union? They were just the football team that we lost to 9 times out of 10. Their hockey program has made some amazing progress-and the schools are in close proximity. But I am an old time hockey guy and it just will take some more time for me to feel that their is the same level of rivalry there. Years from now this could all change and we may not even have yearly games between any of these teams-who knows what conference we or any other teams will be in let alone what schedules will look like.

Good point and well spoken......

Since I competed in track (one of many non football or hockey sports programs at both schools), we always got up for RPI......

The time I refer to was the late 1980's where RPI was our main rival in sports since we were both primarily, and still are, D-III schools...........

My first taste of hockey at Union was coincidentally enough the famous 1988 game where we won 4-3 on a breakaway in OT.......

This was huge for a tiny D-III school against a D-I team that ripped us a new one 13-0 just the year prior.......

I was hooked on Union hockey after that game and I have been an ardent supporter ever since......

Both schools have long and proud traditions in both sports and academics and the connection between Union and RPI goes all the way back to the founding of RPI(Just take a gander at who the president of RPI was from 1829 -1845)........

I miss going over to RPI to watch Union compete and I always would watch RPI when they came over to play us......

Here in Oregon, its all about the Ducks and PAC-Ten football....yechhhhh

I miss the Capital Region days....

Be Well.

Keith.

Point taken.

I agree that some of my post was childish and I apologize.....

I also agree that posting the standings was also a baiting tactic and that I regret....

What I don't regret is standing up to the bullying that some folks in the RPI forum group seem to feel is both OK and proper when it comes to talking about Union......

Your comment about elevating my vocabulary is inflammatory and also a baiting tactic......

Will you also choose the high road in the future????

Be Well.

Keith.
