Re: RPI 2011-12 Part V: Don't Stop Believing

Yeah, especially one that used his second post ever to do it. Typical frontruner fashion.

Granted, Union has only had success in this realm very recently. Even the most hardcore Union fans are a little taken aback by how well the team has performed in such a short time.....

However, I have been supporting the team even when they truly stunk up the ECAC and its been a lot of fun to see the recent successes....

Often, the only thing that Union and RPI fans can agree on is to disagree......

The rivalry is intense for all of us.....

I remember a game in the mid 1990's where Union came over to HFH and I took my parents to the game......

The atmosphere was crazy.....

Union had managed to get an early two goal lead that stunned the home crowd.....

I sat there so nervous since we were clearly the underdog in the game and I knew that RPI would come storming back and correct that early mistake......

I was so stressed as the inevitable happened and RPI came back and tied, then took the lead for good.....

I was so sick about the loss that I lost my dinner in the bathroom when I got home......

This rivalry is a good thing, as long as it doesn't get personally inflammatory or slanderous/libelous on EITHER side.....

Be Well and good luck this weekend against P & Q.

Keith.

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part V: Don't Stop Believing

I noticed that also. Considering that he wrote that he was a long-time lurker, I could see tha anger against RPI building to the point that he felt he had to register. :D

Excellent deduction!

You are both a gentleman and a scholar......

Good luck this weekend

Be Well.

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part V: Don't Stop Believing

I have to give Union fans credit when it is due....they can be quite good at taunting people. In fact, one might say they are master baiters. :p

Just like the one about if you can't be an athlete, be an athletic supporter.....

Be Well.

Keith

Actually, they can't. They can both catch Harvard, but they can't surpass everyone in front of them before doing so.
False. RPI can finish in a tie for 4th place with Harvard at 21 points and they would win the resulting tiebreaker.

Princeton can finish at 21 points tied with either Harvard or Clarkson and win the tiebreaker and finish as the #4 seed.

Seems to me like uniontrack needs to discover the "Multi-Quote" functionality

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part V: Don't Stop Believing

Good point and well spoken......

Since I competed in track (one of many non football or hockey sports programs at both schools), we always got up for RPI......

The time I refer to was the late 1980's where RPI was our main rival in sports since we were both primarily, and still are, D-III schools...........

My first taste of hockey at Union was coincidentally enough the famous 1988 game where we won 4-3 on a breakaway in OT.......

This was huge for a tiny D-III school against a D-I team that ripped us a new one 13-0 just the year prior.......

I was hooked on Union hockey after that game and I have been an ardent supporter ever since......

Both schools have long and proud traditions in both sports and academics and the connection between Union and RPI goes all the way back to the founding of RPI(Just take a gander at who the president of RPI was from 1829 -1845)........

I miss going over to RPI to watch Union compete and I always would watch RPI when they came over to play us......

Here in Oregon, its all about the Ducks and PAC-Ten football....yechhhhh

I miss the Capital Region days....

Be Well.

Keith.

UT:Since you must be close to Medford-any chance see you can send me some of those incredible Royal Riviera pears from Harry and David?

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part V: Don't Stop Believing

Now that lugnut92 has satisfactorily explained offsides to me (took a while for it to stick), I really enjoyed the being at the past two games in person and being able to watch guys walking the blueline to avoid an offsides call, and seeing when the puck left the zone, how they had to all go touch up. I even managed to see how they were offsides when the whistle blew, instead of just having to assume that's what happened. I love learning more about the game-makes it even more fun to watch. /hockey

Carry on.

My mother-in-law used to do accounting for Harry & David......

The orchards are close by and the fruit is awesome, though a bit overpriced......

The entire company has just emerged from bankruptcy and they may be sacrificing some customer service and quality for price increases to build a cash base again......

But I agree, the fruit down here is awesome....and the wine is just as good as the Willamette Valley up north, but not quite as well publicized.....

I was just in the company store last week.....I can see what the damage is if you'd like......

if we all take turns and keep him typing until dawn, will he turn to stone like a proper troll?

time [again, sigh...] for all to cease responding entirely in any way, shape, or form.

oh well.

So, posting on the thread even with positive comments is still trolling......

*sigh*

Mind your P's & Q's this weekend...

I have wondered how he was able to do both jobs at the same time without a conflict of interest. Thankfully, a certain recent Union president didn't do the same. :)

Now that's one topic we can agree on. Roger Hull, IMHO, was the bane of Union for his entire presidency.......He was responsible for the speaker at my graduation...We were supposed to get Tom Brokaw from NBC, but the Kremlin opened up that spring and NBC sent him to Moscow.....We got Roger Hull's personal friend, Paul Tsongas as a replacement.....need I say more.........He told us we were whiny, silver-spoon cry babies and that we were spoiled and wouldn't amount to much...I wasn't bitter....

The story goes that Eliphalet Nott was involved with the initial conversation to develop a technical-only school in the Capital Region and then RPI's founding fathers did all the hard, grunt work. Although Nott was very emphatic about liberal arts and technology combined at Union, I know he was very adamant about the importance of RPI's academic role in the region at the time......

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part V: Don't Stop Believing

There are SO many ellipses here. Are you an emo kid? Did your masochistic desire to attend Union College turn you into that? :D
It's like he's a more literate version of troyboy.

But, he actually uses paragraphs. Hmm.......

Harry and David was almost my entire Christmas Gift list for over 30 years. But as their prices/shipping charges got out of sight I began to use them less and less. Simply the best fruit you can get and always had reliable and prompt customer service. Hopefully they can get their act back together after the emergence from bankruptcy.

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part V: Don't Stop Believing

Now back to RPI hockey...Big weekend coming up. 2 games that we really need to show that this season is changing for us. I would think anything less than a 3 point weekend would be disappointing. As EHF has said several times-we will need to find a way to score more than 2 goals per game though. i do not know much about Quinnipiac but I have seen Princeton a couple times including the game against us. For some reason they seem to play very differently on the road than they do at Baker Rink. We did seem to match up well against them down here and it was one of the few times we were able to score 3 goals. here's hoping that after last weekend on the road we have gained the confidence and the momentum to play a great 2 games at home.

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part V: Don't Stop Believing

A true ellipsis has only three dots. It probably is Morse code. ;)

I cannot think of a character that utilizes more than 5 dots.

Actually, if an ellipsis is used to end a sentence, it may have 4 dots.

EDIT: Many dots are typically used in Amateur Radio to indicate an errant send.
